Why do I lie awake at night
Think back as for as I can
To the sound of my father's life outdoors
At the thought of Sputnik in tree flight
Before I could fashion my poverty
Before I distrusted the night
Musta known something
I mustsa known something
I live for those times tonight
Why why why
Why mama why
Why can't I sleep in peace tonight
Underneath the satellite sky
It can't be easy for the children
I'm hollow before my time
It looks like a desert here tome
Where's the promise of youth for my child
Where are the faraway kingdoms of dreams
We've been to the moon. there's
Trouble at home
Vanished in the mist with St Nicholas and
The ghettos and war zones
Why why why
Oh why mama why
Why can't we sleep in peace tonight
Underneath the satellite sky
Oh why why why
Oh why mama why
Why can't I sleep in peace tonight
Underneath the satellite sky
I want to stand out in the middle of the street
And listen to the stars
I want to hear their sweet voices
I want to feel the big bang rattle my bones
Laugh with the children
I want the spark to ignite
Before we find out just what it means
To be born into these times
Why why why
Why mama why
Why can't I sleep in peace tonight
Underneath the satellite sky
Think back as for as I can
To the sound of my father's life outdoors
At the thought of Sputnik in tree flight

.."i wanna find out what it means to be foreign to these times" is a real nice lyric..but the tune as a whole isn't captivating me, personally..
I was thinking Richard Thompson

Hmmm, nice. Lets have him on the Cayamo Cruise.

Just heard Pettis in concert, last night, and he is the real deal. Incredible singer/songwriter/guitarist with deep insight and humanity (and humor)...like a combination of Marc Cohn and Lyle Lovett. HIGHLY recommended...
Sounds like Bruce Cockburn.
