The young man rose his pretty face,
All for to feel the salty spray.
When storms are mustering, they say
I'll come and take you all away.

I am a traveller by trade,
I only have what I have made.
A fortune teller too they say,
And I can take you all away.

Listen Listen to him do.
He is the one who is for you.
Listen, they say
He'll come and take us all away.

And over there the young man stayed,
Upon on the rocks so rough and grey.
Watching the boy, watching the day
Thinking of how he came to be.

A young man he, he is so real,
And never more to go astray.
He is of value now they say,
And he can take himself away.

Listen Listen to him do.
He is the one who is for you.
Listen, they say
He'll come and take us all away.

Me too. Sandy Denny had the purest and most beautiful voice that I have ever heard live in my 75 years on this planet.

Ugh, what a tragedy.
This song is brilliant and—too short.
I wouldn't know of her it wasn't for Kate Bush naming her on  "Blow away" along with Buddy Holly, Sid Vicious and others. She's in good company there, and her voice stands out beautifully.

From Wkipedia, the collector of all knowledge:

A fifth, smaller symbol chosen by guest vocalist Sandy Denny represents her contribution to "The Battle of Evermore"; the figure, composed of three equilateral triangles, appears on the inner sleeve of the LP, serving as an asterisk.
Man, that Wikipedia page about her passing in 1978 is pretty crazy.

This song is 50 years old. Wow. Just wow.
"I've said it before about Nick Drake: these days, we might have done an intervention or something. But back then, you thought people would grow out of it." ~ Linda Thompson about Sandy Denny's early demise

Sandy's beautiful melody transpires in music what words could never express. Upgraded to 10.

A voice from my youth. Lovely
has a strong ABBA vibe to me, but in a very good way😌

AFAIK Sandy Denny was never with Pentangle - although she was at college with Jon Renbourne.

Are you thinking of Jacqui McShee?

I would give "I'll Keep It with Mine" a 10 in a heartbeat (while tearing up...) but any Sandy Denny is great.
What a voice.
Take me away Calgon!

Yes to the Joan Baez association.  Both beautiful voices.
Sandy Denny... melts me... every time.
If only we could reincarnate Sandy Denny and Nicolette Larson.
Still in love after all these years!!!
Otis Redding, Sandy Denny -- gee whiz, Bill what's the theme of this set? Who's next? The Doors? Hendrix? Janice?
Too bad she died early what a talent
A meaningful follow up might be a cut from Jackson C. Frank. He was Sandy’s companion and lover during the early days of the London folk scene.

The minute I hear that voice....I know who it is!!

Are you thinking of Fairport Convention?  They were bloody great. (The woman singing with Pentangle was Jaqui McShee (sp?), and she had a terrific but very different voice)

Agreed. It's a solid 2.

Don't be such a turd!

I get it though. This sort of bombastic folk style from the early 70s used to grate on my nerves too, but even so, Denny had one hell of a voice.

A solid 8 from Rocky Hill, on the banks of the Connecticut.

It's fun to try figure out the connections. What Bill and Rebecca do is really becoming a lost art. Time to send more support. . .
The syrupy strings are unnecessary. Just give us Sandy. That's well enough.
A treasure, to soon gone!
Love just about anything Sandy Denny.

I love Sandy Denny with FC or Fotheringay, but this is pretty dreadful.

It's apparent that the person who posted the comment to which you were responding didn't know anything about Sandy Denny or her 'tragic' death, so their comment may not really be "surprisingly insensitive", maybe "surprisingly uninformed".    Anyhow, good song.
I cannot Listen, Listen.

One of my favorite songs - by anyone. Sandy was a genuine talent.
Listen, listen, said lissen.  A beautiful Oregon morning with some fog and stillness in the woods.  Great music coming from the garden of Paradise.  Keep it coming Bill and Rebecca!

Take a Tylenol and call us in the morning.

Anyway, how is this different in style, sound, substance than many others of her time: Buffy St. Marie, Joan Baez, Melanie, and others.
And I like her voice. Lovely tune. Bill said so.

Agreed. Sandy can hold her own amongst those who got more attention (Joni, Joan, etc., all of whom I love as well.) I would love to know what she'd be doing musically if she had been on this earth a bit longer.

Bumped. Because...yes.  {#Meditate}
Beautiful song.

I know that it's 11 minutes or so, but "A Sailors Life" from Unhalfbricking is equally good - and has the added bonus of an extended Richard Thompson guitar as well.
I remember other songs that she recorded when she was with Pentangle and they were pretty good.

At first glance, I thought the album cover was Paul McCartney.

How cool is THAT?  Gotta go dig out my vinyl now.  I'd rated this song a 9, but in light of a lot of weirdness in my life (and, it seems, most other folks' lives), I bumped it to 10.  RIP, Ms. Denny. You are still alive at RP, and most of us love your voice and your legacy. {#Notworthy}

I have always considered this a beautiful composition and performance. As far as I can recall, this is the only place other than my record collection where I have heard the song. Makes this a pretty cool station.

?? I didn't know that music DEMANDED anything of us.... I can appreciate her voice, but I don't think that the source of my appreciation is "decency" or that the appreciation was as a result of her or your "demand."
I love Sandy Denny's voice, the harmonies...and especially the use of mandolin in this lovely song!
Damn! Just read her bio. Another fave dying young, perhaps at her own hand. (Falling down the stairs drunk?)

Wasn't this the song that was about Richard Thompson? I was lucky enough to score the box set (on vinyl!) at a recent record show. Cody
this is pure comedy! i love it!
Ouch.
I love this song. We had it years ago on a demonstration record put out by a stereo company, and I had forgotten who had done it, but the song stuck in my mind. Then a few years ago, there was a Rite Aid commercial that had a guitar intro a lot like this one, and I was reminded of the tune. I finally tracked it down and bought a cd with the song on it.
Wow!

Ah Sandy, the voice that launched so many celtic immitations. Her earliest group, Fotheringay, was also a forerunner of Clannad and on. Nice to touch base with her again. Thanks, RP
Nice to hear.

Aaah civilisation! Sandy, in my view has one of THE most ravishingly beautiful & magisterial female voices. Sadly though folks, seems we're firmly outnumbered on RP. I've already had "Shame of doing wrong" & "Quiet joys of brotherhood" rejected on the LRC. I've currently got "Solo" doing the LRC circuit but it has now dipped below 60% so ........

A ravishingly beautiful voice - full of majesty - perhaps my absolute favourite female vocalist (sorry Joni) - even if the quality of many of those 60/70's analogue recordings is slightly "muddy" by today's standards. I totally agree. What a nice surprise to hear her on RP.
