I love you gypsy eyes
I love you gypsy eyes
All right
Gypsy
Way up in my tree I'm sitting by my fire
Wonderin' where in this world might you be
And known' all the time
Your still rollin' along the country side
Do you still think about me?
Oh my
Gypsy
Well I walked right on up to your rebel road side
The one that rambles on for a million miles
Yes I walked down this road searching for your love
And I found some too
But I found her I ain't gonna let go
I remember the first time I saw you
The tears in your eyes oh that girl's tryin' to say
Oh little girl you know I could love you
But first I must make my getaway
Two strange men fightin' to the death over me today
I'll try and meet you by the old highway
Hey!
Well I realize that I've been hypnotized
I love you gypsy eyes
I love you gypsy eyes
I love you gypsy eyes
I love you gypsy eyes
I've been searching so long
I think they made me lose the battle
Down against the road my worry knees
Off to the side I fall but I hear her sweet call
My gypsy eyes fine and I've been saved
Oh I've been saved
That's why I love you
I said I love you
Lord I love you
Really? 1997 you say?
Were Elvis and Jim Morrison there too?
Is this a case of 'If 6 Was 9'?
haha. That's some observation!
If Mozart or John Coltrane were alive today they would be busking on subway platforms
Holy Hanna - I'm agreeing with the king
You have asked the wrong people.
all along the watchtower
I met Jimi in 1997 in Bristol, England.
Stand up bloke, got his rounds in at the bar.

It's called irony. I don't think it's crossed the Atlantic yet.....
Which side of the Atlantic do you think I'm on? Hint, it's the same side as Bristol.
and then everyone else
They don't? Here are mine:
* Little Wing
* Who Knows
* Gypsy Eyes
* Hey Baby (New Rising Sun) - live at Berkeley
It was Tony who shook down club owners, most notoriously Steve Paul's The Scene. Well, Jimi, Johnny Winter, Jim Morrison etc all hung out there and the wannabe non-made gangster Tony Sirico relentlessly, brutally bullied and tortured Hendrix during his final days, suffering from a bad H problem. Great actor but not so much a great human being in his younger days.
That's weird. He'd been dead for 27 years at that point.

I do not enjoy this song at all. Noise.
I'm sorry.
very funny ...nearly everybody rates Hendrix to be the greatest guitar player ever. But when you ask people about their favourite guitar track / solo no one names Hendrix.

I don't think he was the best guitar player ever in a technical/virtuoso sense, but in creativity & musicality he was a giant.
I Agree!! Completely!!

So technically he may have been the best but what about singing, composing skills, number of hits? If you count that in he probably would land in the midfield.

All Along the Watchtower, also count the number of musicians and listeners influenced/stunned.

At 9.1, the highest rated song I've ever seen on RP is Little Wing by Hendrix. I'll count that as my favourite guitar track ever...
Love Jimi's guitar playing. Don't like his voice.
He didn't either. But I like it.
Oh and nice drumming Mitch!
Any man who can sing lead and play lead guitar at the same time with the ease and proficiency would be a legend. Who else can do this besides Mark Knofler? Both will be legends long after they have their tickets punched.
Ever heard of Bonnie Raitt? Saw her awhile back, opening for James Taylor (?!) She is a force of nature.
Couldn't agree more! I've seen her live a number of times and she's one of the few women out there with swagger for days!

Another woman who plays lead and sings is Carolyn Wonderland, local hero. Used to see her at Dan Electro's in Houston's Heights - little bitty thing with a big red hollow-body, blowing the roof off the joint.
Ms. Wonderland is good enough some guy, Robert Zimmerman I think, asked her to tour with him. Ray Benson and Bonnie are both fans as well.
c.
Rehash?
Doubt Mr Hendrix would agree with you. He was quite the perfectionist and he thought this good enough, so who are you to tell him what is hash?
Why don't you try to even just sing this, let alone write, play, produce.
Unreal.
With the greatest respect I totally disagree!
I’m not just agreeing with Scottish Willie as a fellow Scot. It wouldn’t have mattered had he produced nothing of note had he lived. His body of work qualifies him as an all-time great.
Any man who can play the Star Spangled banner with his toes would be a legend.

Thank you for raising your children right.
WAY TOO LATE for him to do anything for you.

Funny. I can hear similarities between these two tracks. I love both and bet Jimi would have loved Yat-Kha.
A comment so immensely moronic it elicits boisterous guffaws.
If only Papernapkin had been around to show Jimi how to play electric guitar.
Tragic, really.
With the greatest respect I totally disagree!
Apparently the same thing happened to Tommy Bolin
the guy was good ...
Awesome.

Songwriting and lyrics: well, ya know.....
Note: there was some damn good songwriting on this one, particularly Burning of the Midnight Lamp
Burning of the Midnight Lamp might be my favorite Hendrix track. And that is out of so many great ones to pick from.
I think Jimi owes his "immortality" to being mortal. If he'd still live today, i don't think he would be such a legend....

The same could be said of a lot of deceased "legendary" artists (e.g., Buddy Holly, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Nick Drake). Some of them might be playing mall-openings or county fairs if they were alive today. One can theorize, but we'll never know for sure - well, not unless we complete work on that time machine project.
so how's the project going? Stewie and Brian have got it down.

He'd be a living legend...
Yes, it's only worth an 8.
God, I wish Jimi hadn't cashed in. He would truly have been amazing to see if he had survived. Oh, well. I can dream, can't I?

Electric Ladyland (0)
Respect, electric guitars and amplifiers in the year 0. Clearly ahead of its time...
Not a very brilliant piece of songwriting though....
I was there.
John "Mitch" Mitchell (9 July 1947 - 12 November 2008)
Mitch Mitchell, who has died aged 61, was the drummer with the Jimi Hendrix Experience and the last surviving member of the trio which proved one of the most influential bands in rock music. Mitchell was a powerful force on the Hendrix band's 1967 debut album "Are You Experienced?" as well as the trio's albums "Electric Ladyland" and "Axis: Bold As Love." He had an explosive drumming style that can be heard in hard-charging songs such as "Fire" and "Manic Depression."
