I've got a job, I explore
I follow every little whiff
And I want my life to smell like this
To find a place, an ancient race
The kind you'd like to gamble with
Where they'd stamp on burning bags of shit

Looking for a place to happen
Making stops along the way, hey

Wayward ho, away we go
It's a shame to leave this masterpiece
With its gallery gods and its garbage bag trees
So I'll paint a scene from memory
So I'd know who murdered me
It's a vain pursuit but it helps me to sleep

Looking for a place to happen
Making stops along the way, hey
Looking for a place to happen
Making stops along the way, hey

Looking for a place to happen
Making stops along the way, hey

Jacques Cartier, right this way
I'll put your coat up on the bed
Hey, man, you've got the real bum's eye for clothes
And come on in, sit right down
No, you're not the first to show
We've all been here since, God, who knows?

Looking for a place to happen
Making stops along the way, hey
Looking for a place to happen
Making stops along the way, hey

Jacques Cartier, right this way
I'll put your coat up on the bed
You've got the real bum's eye for clothes
And come on in, sit right down
We've all been here since, God, who knows?

Just saw them play at the Arts Centre on September 27. At the Arts Centre everyone usually sits and listens. That night the place stood up for the whole show. Before and after the intermission. Band was great and Gord's voice was in find shape and his showmanship can not be questioned. Have to see these guys live to appreciate his voice and the band's musicianship. My ears rang for three days. It was a night of blistering, screaming rock and roll. Fully and completely.

Yes, they can definitely rock the joint!

ok - THAT ended the goove.{#Arrowd}

Make it stop, please.
There, that's better.  Thank you.

Lucky you!  The BITGND to us sounds like 4 or 5 15-yr-old wannabees<1> just making a big ****ing racket, and unable to get through more than 7 bars at a time.

<1> Young enough to be totally incompetent, old enough to be arrogant and disproportionately assertive. (which, admittedly, describes me up the age of 55.)

I used to really dig TH, and they're not bad, but most of their tunes sound pretty similar.  I do have some fun fuzzy memories attached to them from several years ago—a coffee shop in Amsterdam played them as I was...um...drinking coffee {#Shifty} {#Whistle}
More tragic than hip.

Given that the hip released their 'breakthrough album' one year before Garth released his, I'd say Garth has been trying to sound like a 'country' Gord Downie ever since.  That would assume that they sounded even vaguely alike, which I don't think they do.

The anthem of my days in Kingston.

LOL...seems to be the curse of several Canadian Rock bands (e.g., Rush —- though I love their work).  The TTH vocalist is sort of like a Canadian version of Michael Stipe, eh? {#Yell}

I origianlly thought the same, but every Hip album since Up To Here has had to grow on me after the first listen. I love what Gord started doing lyrically from Music @ Work up until the last two, In Between Evolution and World Container, which took a simpler turn. Give 'em all another listen, I promise you you'll hear lots of stuff to love.
Wow! This rocks with reckless abandon. Bookmarking this one. Turn it up.

I have front-row balcony seats for their November show here in Roch-cha-cha. I can't wait.
Love it!
WooHoo!! Got tix to see them in Aspen and in Boulder in October. YAY! LOVE the Hip!!!

Got it working now.

I'll be seeing them in March here in Rochester, NY. I can't wait. My all time favorite band.
Quite the tasty track . . . might have to buy this so I can snack on it as I feel the need.

I still love Love Junk but I've never heard anything since then. We need to hear some TPOH and TMJ on RP.
Did they do anything past then? I remember a good track they had on a soundtrack (the song was "Edmonton Block Heater", I forget the film). I remember seeing TPOH a number of years ago at a crappy small town bar. I don't know if it's part of his onstage persona but Moe Berg seemed like an incredibly bitter guy. I remember at one point his saying something to the effect of "I had worldwide number one hit and now I'm playing a crappy small town bar to 8 people". Come to think of it, I'd be bitter....
Let's hear "New Orleans is Sinking"...

Most of us didn't say anything. Is that particularly good though? We can be too modest sometimes, though. Our unofficial motto as a country is a polite, "sorry".

I dunno. I'm an adult now, and it's hard to laugh when the sky comes falling down. Especially if man's best friend was killed by love walking in the woods. Or was it ten fingers? I still love Love Junk but I've never heard anything since then. We need to hear some TPOH and TMJ on RP.

That's the big three of The Tragically Hip. Earlier stuff was good too and after Day for Night, they kind of lost their way. Don't get me wrong, their more recent stuff if great but not quite as accessable. They're also AMAZING live. Pick up their Live Between Us album. Not to be missed.
how kewl---a listener from poland telling a listener from ohio about how to buy canadian music...

If you like this sound from the hip, don't buy anything after "trouble at the hen house".

'Phantom Power' is a great album - but you can't really go wrong with The Hip - they're all good
Next - try Road Apples. Earlier cd. Great. They are all awesome, the earlier ones especially. MickMan wrote:
Start with this one. Fully Completely is awesome from start to finish. Locked in the trunk of a car and the title track are amazing in the way they each keep builing up to an amazing crescendo.

This band wouldn't be half bad if they could get a lead singer who could actually sing. As it stands now, they are all-bad!

They kept it shut -- of course.
I love RP because it plays some great Canadian music. I hear better Canadian content than stations up here that are governed by the CRTC. That being said The Hip is not the best stuff on here. Not surprising that a good chunk of the reviewers are fellow canucks... Sorry guys, HIP are a Canadian band who could never really break out internationally.
Tragic indeed.

This describes my youth. Unemployed in a small town, riding the pogey train. "I got a job. I explore. I flip from channels 2 to 4" (couldn't afford cable)

I've got some great Tea Party that I plan on uploading when I get some time.

NOT BAD . . . AND NOT GOOD EITHER!

A great one from the Hip\'s best album IMO. This is one of the best programming days I\'ve ever heard you play Bill. Great work!
At last the greatest Canadian band of all time on RP.
Love The Hip! Love this song. Love RP!

Is anybody else reminded of Midnight Oil (another band I LOVE like TH!)?
Not what I\'m looking for on this station.
The Hip are way underplayed, glad to hear RP jump in, Bill has plenty of good Hip songs to choose from.
Ok. Don\'t see how anyone could consider it \"Godlike\" though. Get real.
