The track should be called "Essence of RP". Whenever I hear it I know I'm in the right place.
One of the first songs I heard when I discovered RP 20+ years ago. Still damn cool!
Wow, I thought this was Zero 7
The Correct Websitelink is

Wonderful, smooth Gallic chic. Merveilleux!
It ends an eternity too soon.
I don't give out many 10s, but this tune is absolutely one of them!

Wish I'd learned bass a couple of decades earlier! ;-)
Oops... that's another album you've just bought me. ;-)

me too. me too.

it was really nice to hear right after burning up by the alpinestars and a few earlier porcupine tree played lips of ashes. i'm liking this afternoon's trip feel.
Mellowing out to this with a couple of doubles in the Rockies.

A cutout from this song is my phone ringtone! I absolutely love Air and this one is just awesome! :) And I also love Zero 7 and Morcheeba btw!

Nice to hear some new music from 1998... hrumf. Gotta live a lot longer to capture it all! ;-)

I was riding to work on a snowy February morning circa 1999, leaving Manhattan driving up the Hudson to Ossining NY. My coworker put Air in the CD player saying I might like this band he had heard in college.  I think it took about 5 measures and I was floating, levitating, leaving my human body to become one with the aural sensations surrounding me.  Rarely does a first listen ever bring me to this level.   Now two decades + later, it still resonates and recalls so much.  Many thanks to this band.

Why hello there Mr. Bassriff
Chill vibe!
Here we go again 3 x in less than an hour!! 😡
Nooo mat again 😡
I can’t stop this song from playing. I don’t like it, I got to actually hate it!!!! How do I make it to STOP playing?
I wrote some pretty kick ass SQL in 2000 while listening to this album.
This is groovy
Third time I've heard this during this week, all from different sources. That's when you know you've made a good tune.
Air is a group that almost always makes me click the skip forward button ...

Total meh.
The YouTube vid of old time cars in San Francisco set to this tune is pretty damn cool....

Air make some of my most favorite nap time music.

AIR is Jean-Benoît Dunckel and Nicolas Godin

Orange Juice Jones
This reminds me a bit of the 'Taxi' TV show theme by Bob James, but more like how it might sound after one of Latka's cookies.
Is there a bad song that begins or ends with the sound of rainfall? This, Protection by Massive Attack, Riders On The Storm?
And an inspired set to follow.  Great, Bill.
That's a sweet tribute to Helen Jansch, Bill. Kudos :)

I can't think of any connection either, but it sure is a great story!
Alpinestars straight into Air!....Excellent!...I'm here for it.
The air has gone outta the room on this one...

Hannio taking on Hannio.  Me likey.
Absolutely spectacular song that just doesn't stop delivering the goods for 7 smooth minutes
On an album i freaking love the song i freaking love the most.

Same here. Sophia Coppola ruined Air for me.

I keep wondering what's with this particular song that pushes me to react negatively every time I hear it, and to give it a bad rating...

Usually I don't bother giving low ratings at all, if I don't consider a song "very good" and upwards (say, above 6), I don't have a need to "exercise my right as a registered RP listener to rate a song low".

I especially don't care for people who need to share their negativity / bad ratings in this forum. There's always PSD and other radio stations. I almost never use PSD, because I totally appreciate Bill's & Rebecca's artistic approach to playlist creation and music choice. For me, using PSD would almost be like skipping an act from a theatre play (that I don't like) by leaving the seat - and coming back afterwards. Radio Paradise program is a creation on its own that has authors behind it, and I fully respect that.

So I am not trying to "share my negativity", just my emotions about this song. I don't even think it's a "bad song" - I just don't like it (totally subjective, of course) because it stirs something negative inside me that (as evidenced by this post) needs to get out.

Sorry about that.  :-/

Mesmerizing together. This absolutely should be one of those videos played in lounges to accompany chill music.
Groovy, baby!
Sail on silver girl! Cool tune. This is the music that should be playing while you're waiting in line for Space Mountain at Disneyland.

Just one of the best album of all time.

I'm pretty sure that's a four-string, electric bass, but he is using a pick though, and playing high up the neck.

**edit:   In this promo video he is using a bass (Hofner?), and he uses a bass in live performances.

If it's a Hofner, it has a custom paint job.  Hofner made (maybe still does make) a bass with a body that looks like the Gibson ES guitar, but they had sunburst finishes.

Very different than the Hofner bass that Sir Paul made famous:

Hmm, more nerdy info: Hofner has made that "Club Bass"
in solid colors and clear-coated, without a pick-guard as well.  Nicholas Godin talks about the Hofner bass in this interview.
FINALLY it's nice to see comments I agree with and also learn from (which is nothing new-- thanks Proclivities!)
Indeed, this never gets old and was an early "10" from me!!!

Damn you're good... now that you say it, I can see it clearly in front of me. Before I didn't even realize there's anything with strings attached here.
Am I the only one that thinks the cover features Roger Daltrey dancing (in gold)?

Great jam.  The video is good too.  Somewhere on youtube

Hearing this song on RP made me get the album. And I like it, a lot.
Un petit peu de GAINSBOURG mais c'est bien !

Fluke sampled this for "Blue Skies", which is a great song too.

This track always leaves me feeling more positive than I was before hearing it. Solid 9. pxd
This track is almost twenty years old, and it's still got the magic.

I call this genre exactly what it is: Post-Midnight Funky Jazz.
I had one of the best mushroom trips ever to this song and remember it vividly and fondly every time I hear this, it's beautiful in every way.

There are some really great video shorts that use this song.  It has a very dreamy quality.  I feel like the musicians must have all felt they were in the groove and flow when they made this.

Quite pleasant. I'm groovin'
Air playing LaFemme D'Argent,...a perfect song for today.  It's blowing about 25, gusting higher and the boat is dancing all over her slip.
I suppose at some point in the next several decades, I might get tired of hearing this song.

"There's too much music in the world to play any one one song 5 times a month, forever. With that said, I still like it." I used to like it well enough, but now I'm beginning to feel that Bill should hit the PSD himself more often. RP is on nearly 24/7 nevertheless, and thanks to Bill and Rebecca, my music horizon has expanded no end!

You mean you prefer the simple and repetitious backbeat vs the actual groove? Both are cool, but the groove is maybe too intellectual for some post-baby boomers :^ /

It has nothing to do with age, and I'm not so sure if appreciating a "groove" requires very much, if any, intellectual exertion - it's sort of the opposite, don't you think?.  Anyhow, cool tune.
Love this!{#Cowboy}

The website says it has been played 5 times in the last 30 days. I find once a week perfectly acceptable for this track.
