Summer to Winter!
The late great Ronnie Montrose on guitar.. the music lasts forever

Today’s Easter mix is brilliant.
Vivaldi  > Frankenstein!

Bill has a way with a segue, if you gnome sayin'....

GODLIKE!!! ICONIC!!!
Still regarded as one of The Old Grey Whistle Test's finest live sessions.
Professor of Rock (youtuber) did a nice interview with Edgar about this song.  Worth the time to watch, see link below.  Like a lot of others, I absolutely wore this album and this song out on our 50's tube amped Hi-Fi.  it was mono but had massive woofers and midrange.  It would rattle the windows, which I did at every opportunity.

edit, I guess you can't link YouTube.
The episode is titled (in Professor of Rock fashion as a bit of a teaser)
"70's Rock WIZARD on Creating The ONLY ROCK INSTRUMENTAL to Hit #1 on the CHARTS"

Segue from Vivaldi to this.
I love you, man!

Summer to Winter.
Used the opening lick for my ringtone on my first cellphone. That was fun. Love this piece.
Can we have Free Ride on the playlist too please Bill? That's ace as well!
Brahms followed by Frankenstein... you gotta love classical music!
Whistle Test back in the day - his live performance of this, with Rick Derringer in his band, was awesome.
This right after Vivaldi is guaranteed to trigger rapid onset emesis.
GREAT!

Saw Edgar Winter’s White Trash performing this when it was new at the Dario Palace in Providence—fantastic show! This song became *the* quadraphonic test to play at all of the Hi-Fi stores while that craze lasted.
If you have a 5.1 set-up - check out the Quad version - especially the break near the end. You can found a boot-leg DTS CD torrent somewhere.

I saw them when this album was brand new in the old Hershey Park Arena. The place had the refined acoustics of the inside of a galvanized garbage can. Didn't matter as they were so loud that it drowned out the echo! Great show.

Like Birdland, more than just an instrumental, a song

Way to change it up Bill! I love how you mess with us!

I had the good fortune to see Edgar Winter in the 70's at the height of his popularity. It was a great band with a local guy who made it big playing bass. The band put on a terrific concert. Glad you got a chance to see him play Ginniet. Both he and his brother are/were terrific musicians.
Back in 1972 I blew out the speaker in my 72 Mustang Fastback listening to this at full volume. Worth it.
Yes! my first time hearing this here! Ah the memories of turning the neighbrhood onto to this when I was in high school!
Checking the calendar like .

I miss the good old days when Bill went all out on Halloween.
After watching They Might Be Giants perform this in a rainstorm, I got a new appreciation for this song.
Hey Bill G, how about some White Trash?
Never noticed the lift of FZ’s Hot Rats ... gotta check out who came first (save the obvious). Think it’s Frank
Holy Crap every time!  9

Sounds even better tonight in the Halloween lineup.  Thanks Bill !

Halloween is the best day of the year to listen to RP.
Awesome music. This was originally the back side of their first single "Hangin' Around". An edited "Frankenstein" then became an edited  'A' side. Johnny Winter was his older brother and they often performed and recorded together but not on this. Cheers.

Ah, how I used to love to crank this up and push my JBL L100s to the limit!
(Great GIF, Proclivities!)
Frankenstein
I thought this was a rockin', fun tune when it came out.  Listening to it now, I still feel the same way.

Aw, say it ain't SO!!!!!  I bet the synthesizer part (representing the shock of life into the body of the monster) had a lot of the patrons doing a zombie-walk to the nearest elevator.  Strangely, I'm okay with that - any place that will play Edgar Winter Group, even as "Muzak," can't be all bad, right? And don't worry about the Apocalypse - humans will be bystanders. Just tuck in and hide and probably, you'll be okay. {#Mrgreen}

Ooo! Yeah, do I! Very cool to hear this sort of technology emerging ... not sure I understood how it would change future music. But THESE guys sure did. Very trippy — a trip to the way-back machine. Ummm.. headphones?

Adventures in rock & roll — My wife & I went to Phish's Clifford Ball (their first huge ass festival) in 1995.  While we were setting up our tent, Mike Gordon (Phish's amazing bass player) zoomed by us in a golf cart just about rolling over my foot.  He got a bit past us and I yelled "Hey Mike!"  He turned around and I yelled "FRANKENSTEIN!" and gave him devil horns.  He chuckled at me and went on.  Encore that night — Frankenstein!  Thanks Mike!

Great song!  For Halloween or anytime! It brings back great teenage memories for me of bouncing around my room, slashing away on air guitar and drums, and Edgar really rocked this one out with Ringo this past summer, too - what a nostalgia trip that was.  Thanks!

Well, it's a little before my time (I was only three then), but it fairly rocks!

+1. Bill used to play "Hocus Pocus" fairly regularly. Aye to the resurgence of the yodel! The Popeye-sounding middle part!
junebaby65 wrote:
Gotta love Ronnie Montrose on this too!!
Montrose plays on this album, but nearly all of the guitar work you hear on this track is Rick Derringer. A couple of good videos of them playing it can be found on YouTube.
At least it's not Christmas music.
Nice, but I always thought that this sounded like a Frank Zappa tune.
The Apocalypse is surely upon us; I heard this over the Muzak in the local HEB grocery store the other morning. 8AM. Scary.

Once a year is EXACTLY the right amount. This song and repeated listens don't go together well.

nice halloween tune bill
Many a brain cell has been lost to this! I second the request for Hocus Pocus by Focus.
wow this only does see the light of day once a year.
What a great, perfect blast from Halloween's past!

Excellent!
Saw Johnny and Edgar play this in a ten minute+ jam in concert. Edgar was dressed in a beat-up tuxedo with top hat, and he played a kettle drum the size of a hot tub. What a show!

Yeah, please! Man, is that album cover funny or what?
This song has long been the tryout piece for the Stanford basketball band, so I've got a soft sport for it in my heart. It is also a fantastic song.
Scary album cover....

AMEN TO THAT!!! - although that album cover is slightly disturbing. fitting for today!
now play "hocus pocus" by focus!
What a relief...segueing from Martyn Bennett's "Move".
Back when this was popular, a friend and I went to the Home Show at the Milwaukee Coliseum. They were playing this song on an endless loop over some KLH tower speakers. The sound was amazing and did a good job of projecting throughout the whole arena.
As a young teenager I got invited to a "retreat" with some church kids. I got stuck in a room with some other non-regulars next to the room with the sound equipment guys, who had DJ'ed the dance the Saturday night dance. Early on Sunday morning they quietly moved the speaker towers inside the door of our room and blasted this song to wake us up. Great song, bad memory of it.
Haha! This is the best Decemberween evah; --d
