I give Bowie props for experimenting and trying to stay fresh. But I don't buy much of his output, although some of it is absolutely stellar. This rework is interesting, especially in context (thanks, gregorbill) but not as timeless as the original.

Love the lyrics! Any comments on their meaning?

I don't think that at 48 you can be considered an old geezer. At least not in this context. Bowie is 57.
It's Bowie's song. It's been covered a few times by a few artists, most notably Nirvana in 1994. Shortly after their cover became popular, Bowie was touring and chose to rework and update it for his live sets, and that's what this recording is. When I saw him on that tour he introduced it by saying "This is a song I wrote in 1970." I think he was trying to educate the younger members of the audience who were only there to see Nine Inch Nails who were also on the bill.
Anyway, this is my upload. I'm glad that most people seem to like it.

Hmmm... not bad :-k
I love David Bowie, but this whiny interpretation ain't gonna win any prizes with me.
