Today is gonna be the day,
That they're gonna give it back to you.
By now you should've somehow,
Realized what you gotta do.
I don't believe that anybody,
Feels the way I do about you now.
Not even sure what's in store, though it's more
Backbeat the word was on the street,
That the fire in your heart is out.
And I'm sure you've heard it all before,
But you never really had a doubt.
I don't believe that anybody,
Feels the way I do about you now.
In your armchair, just lying in wait, waiting
And all the roads we have to walk are winding.
And all the lights that lead the way are blinding.
There are many things that I would like to say to you,
But I don't know how...
And a little bit hungrier for that tiny prize.
I said maybe...
You're gonna be the one that saves me...
And after all...
You're my wonderwall...
Find that part in someone else and you'll do good," so I thought that I would.
Today was gonna be the day,
But they'll never bring it back to you.
By now you should've somehow,
Realized what you gotta do.
I don't believe that anybody feels
The way I do about you now.
Propped up and pushed into your place
And all the roads we have to walk are winding.
And all the lights that lead the way are blinding.
There are many things that I would like to say to you,
But I don't know how...
You should know that it won't
I said maybe...
You're gonna be the one that saves me...
You're gonna be the one that saves me...
And after all...
You're my wonderwall...
You're my wonderwall...
You're my wonderwall...
You're my wonderwall...

I would have problems liking this song even if The Beatles sang it in perfect harmony, though admittedly Ryan Adams's voice raises it to 2 from the original's 1.

The spirit and engaging melody of the original are utterly absent, replaced by some hungover adolescent whining and echo/phasing production.
Ugh, reminds me of Oasis. I HATE Oasis. {#Frustrated}

An awful lot of folks absolutely detest Adams—but as far as I can tell not because of his talent or music. Something to do with an apparent arrogance that I have yet to witness. I've heard that he's alternately a self-absorbed flake or a drug addled flake. I have no idea. I do, however, very much like his music, and this cover is lovely.

Just dont call him Bryan. I prefer this version ass well.
Wow. Such a nice version. Especially for singing along to it.
Wow, just about an hour after I said I preferred Ryan Adam's cover (while Oasis's original was playing), RP reads my mind!

I only know of one better cover --- Johnny Cash's version of Hurt. Love Ryan Adams, love this tune.
I don't know why the majority of the audience here hate this cover.... I find it magic.... at the time I used to love this OASIS song in 1995 but I felt in love with Ryan just listening his personal evocative version... this one....and the whole album love is hell is incredible

Don't get me wrong: I DO like Oasis' version of this song and I really enjoy Ryan Adams work, but this is just wrong.
How has this got a score as high as 5.9!?
Why I haven't heard this before
Incredible creativity shown here--who else but Ryan Adams could have made this song even worse?
Please.. Make.. It.. Stop...
Stop it. Put down that guitar.

This is the only version of this song that I like. Usually, the original is best, but Liam Gallagher's voice rubs me the wrong way. Paul Anka's take just made me want to barf. Somebody else covered this too, but I can't remember it, so it couldn't have been that great. But this is nice.
The best cover (and as far as I'm concerned only worthwhile version of this song, including the original) is more or less a parody by the Mike Flowers Pops Orchestra...best heard in context of the video...

Strikes a chord that is somehow reminiscent of Jefferson Airplane's 'Comin' Back to Me'.
the original was crap, this version is crap and that adds up to nothing more than crap.
this is aweful... he took the energy right out of this song. sucko-barfo
Get a life and write your own half-rate song.
Dark, intense, taut, ethereal... interesting. Nice take -- took it from a pop sound, to a mood piece...

HA, HA !!
The most covered song ever. This is a pretty good version. I actually spent the time to learn this on the guitar. Nice to hear.
Is this for real ?
Good lord this is terrible. I'd rather hear Bryan Adams covering John Tesh taking a dump.
OMFG NO... Im sorry many might not like Oasis but this was one of there best tracks... And quite frankly this cant even touch there version... The original is simply the best.

That record came out a few weeks before 9/11. The video for NY NY (with RA primarily across the river from WTC) was shot the weekend before 9/11.

Looks like we're in the minority here LadyLovelyLocks, but I wholeheartedly agree with you!
The worst cover version I have ever heard. This is so essentially Oasis, that this soulless, esoteric and unnecessary cover is flawed in its conception, weak in its execution and could only be liked by numpties who cant tell Noel from Liam. PS I didnt like it

I find this to be a much better version than the original. No disrepect to Oasis, but Mr. Adams is a bit less whiny.

Gotta agree here. Looks like there was a good song under all that noise and melodrama!
Will wonders never cease? I thought the original was as bad as this song could get.
This version is very boring! Stop this or else I'll drop asleep!
i saw ryan adams on letterman recently. coming back from the commercial break before he came on to play, paul schaeffer and the band were playing "run to you." i laughed my butt off. i wonder if he could hear it from the green room...
makes the original actually sound good. rating: -7
Hell, I like it. Reminds me of seeing a decent local acoustic show at The Evening Star here in Alexandria.
Please just give me the troublemaking Gallagher brothers! =)
Lame.

I can't believe this knobber has ripped off such a great song and made such a mess of it. It sounds like somebody has requested it at a Karaoke venue and he's resenting even making an attempt at it. Rubbish.

Better than the original, at least.

Seeing as I'm commenting on this not after hearing it on RP, I'm not sure which version of this cover was played. I've heard the one on the album, as well as one from an acoustic set Adams did. Personally, I think the latter version kicks the ass of the former, but I find his take on the song, in general, quite loverly. The song has always held a certain significance for me, and I'm glad to find a cover that did not butcher the original, but was even comparable. Kudos, sir Ryan.

what's the big surprise? we disliked the last one for all the reasons we're digging on this one. ryan adams might be a dork, but anyone who could make oasis sound this good is worth the .99 download in my book. :D
Ryan Adams is a dork
An Meandering Essay Commending the Efforts of Ryan Adams: Why This Version of Oasis' Wonderwall Kicks ARS First of all, I find it disgusting when a so called "artist" covers a song and doesn't claim it or do anything creative to make it their own. An example of a bad cover: "last Kiss"covered by pearl jam, or "Landslide" by the pumpkins. Oasis themselves said that they didn't feel proper doing the song Wonderwll anymore after hearing Ryan Adams version because he did it so immaculately. This is hands down a fabulous cover. To reiterate the point that claiming a cover as your own is much more pleasurable and flattering, notice the wide range of covers on A Perfect Circles album "Emotive" they cover Marvin Gaye, Depeche Mode, John Lennon, and Joni Mitchell. Each song is orchestrated newly to capture the meaning it has to them. Kudos Ryan, Maynard, and all those creative enough to hear the music in it's endless possibility!
Yikes. After reading some of the terrible comments about the previously played "Champagne Supernova", I'm surprised to find so many people liking this shockingly awful cover 8O I'm certainly not Oasis's No.1 fan by any stretch of the imagination - but some songs should, and generally can, only sound any good when sung by certain people. Wonderwall for me will always sound best when it's by Oasis.

Not much and not often... A "local" band covers this song often (they do have 5 albums of their own which are pretty good folk/rock), I should try to find a bootleg of their cover and upload it so it can replace this one :D

The two previous versions (including this one) of Wonderwall pale in comparison to Paul Anka's new version from his album Rock Swings. It also has a swinging cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit. Paul Anka rocks! Or at least swings well.
I've heard Anka's version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" a time or two. Barely recognized it without the angry guitars. But I have to admit I got a kick out of it. Bonus points for sheer balls!
A great cover of Oasis after Oasis best tune ever..."champagne supernova"...Bill is on to something here. GO B!!!!

Maybe the greatest cover song ever made. As I heared it for the first time, I thought, it's the forgotten original and oasis just did a cover of it ;)
Oh, my God... I'm realy can't stand this! :footinmouth.gif:
this is the only version where i actually felt the lyrics. and i like oasis. i also saw this live. but the whole thing makes sense to me when he sings it and when oasis sings it, it's more of just a great pop song.
As of today, Oasis Wonderwall is rated at a 6.3, which is only 0.1 higher than this version :D I just LOVE ribbing the OASIS purists. You all make it so much fun.
:headshake:
I applaud his effort to do something different with a cover version (so many covers these days seem to be an effort simply to reproduce the original as closely as possible) but I can't say I enjoyed it. I kept trying to forget the original and listen to this as a composition in its own right, but I couldn't. In the end it just sounded like he was trying too hard to make it sound different, and lost the plot completely.
This is bliss. The perfect follow on from an original Oasis song. I love the way RP dp that.

interesting follow to the actual oasis. the songs were catchy, and reading the posts its true that if anyone else sang them, or didnt talk the trash that oasis did people would actually like them. Its too bad when peoples judgement of an artist makes them jaded to the music, but hell it happens, people can be dumb
uuuuggghh, awefull
This is so much better than Oasis. Takes out the "Wow I'm soooooo stoned!" childishness and presents the lyrics, which are pretty good, in a tolerable manner. I like this.
Talk about an eclectic "artist". Does the man have something like a personal style?

So maybe if you could take a song or two... Oh my god, I was thinking 'Wonderwall' too! Great minds think alike, eh? Ha ha ha. So anyway... Sure, just shoot us an MP3. Or maybe... Listen, I'm just brainstorming. If you could put it on an actual LP... Or an EP, that would work great too. You're the best Ryan. We'll make a name for Oasis on RP yet. Tell your mom we said hi. Jeez, 370 ratings and 124 comments, I'm late to this frenzy of activity! IMHO, this precious version is utterly lackining the power and emotion that makes the original SO GOOOOOOOD. resume the frenzy now...
I can't believe people get so upset about stuff like this. Doesn't anybody have anything better to do? To me, the question to ponder is: What would I think of this recording if I had never heard the Oasis version? Of course, there's no way to know that. So I'm stuck thinking, "This is an interesting take on a familiar song." And definitely a change of pace. I like the song; I like the emotional intensity its infused with here. Call that "oversinging" if you want.

Blues artists who cover blues songs are covering OLD blues songs. Wonderwall is a RECENT song, and I agree, it is too early to cover it. The Oasis song was good, but this guy makes it boring.
I like this song, but I prefer the accoustic version from Oasis. This guy oversings.
Ryan Adams scored a Grammy nomination for this cover from 2004. Here's the competition. I haven't heard a single one of the other songs, and I've heard this version about a million times, so I figure it's gotta win. But what do I know? I've never even seen the Grammys. But I love it when a record company doesn't want to release a record that goes on to huge success...and I love "Love is Hell" even more than this song.
