Before I met you I was blind
Pills and liquid filled my mind
Beneath your outline I was new
Overflowing with your tune
And don't you know you're beautiful
Next month I missed you like a child
Couldn't see past you though I tried
And don't you know you're beautiful
And don't you know you're beautiful
Now I think of every hour
When you still retained your power
And the precious nights we'd share
When we'd breathe in common air
The feeling now you've gone
This wretched life goes on
The knife inside of me
It turns just like a key
The sunlight always comes too soon
My body asks me what to do
I was so small and vulnerable
And you were only beautiful
The seasons shining in your hair
And it was more than I could bare
But I can see you in my smile
And you are only beautiful
Pills and liquid filled my mind
Beneath your outline I was new
Overflowing with your tune
And don't you know you're beautiful
Next month I missed you like a child
Couldn't see past you though I tried
And don't you know you're beautiful
And don't you know you're beautiful

Wish there were more bands like Lush today...(miss the 4AD era)
Absolutely LOVE this song......those chiming guitars.
This song is on the album 'Spooky' which came out in 1992. Helped me through my turbulent adolescence!!

Wish they'd play My Bloody Valentine or Curve if they play Lush this much.
It's weird how I;m drawn to vocals washed out by the guitar. Wouldn't be able to say what is being sung, but it doesn't seem to matter.
I've always known of Lush — mostly the song from the Levi commercial (Undertow remix) and the other one that got airplay "Ladykillers", but I never really explored their albums in depth. This is sounding very fresh!! Might have to remedy my oversight....
Always really liked this band. Great to hear them again.
Repeat the same chords a few more million times.
Never heard of this band before. Quite nice. Very pop-y but a good driving mix. Great workout tune. Thanks, Bill.
Ugh. Very annoying.
WOW - haven't heard Lush in years - almost forgot about them. Great stuff - I will have to dig out my old discs! Thanks RP for the reminder!

That reminds me: it's cocktail hour.

Love "500" off of Lovelife the best.
The first time I heard that on the radio (and the last), my wife and I were driving back from a wedding in Colorado in July of 2000.
I was scanning the FM dial, driving back in the very northern part of Newer Mexico, and that song faded in from some independent station from who knows where.
I was struggling to hear the end of it so I could get the name of it.
I lucked out when the DJ said it on the higher end of the fade.
When I got home, I went to the local record store and ordered it.
Then uploaded it to R. Paradise...where it got the boot.

This song reminds me of some good electronic shoe gazing stuff: Stereo Lab, Swirlies, even the harmonic vocal heaven of Low.

Cocteau Twins... Lush... now the High Violets. I'll always be a sucker for the bands that can pull off this swirling, soaring sound so beautifully.
I couldn't agree more. The swirling sound of this song coupled with the amazing harmonies knocked me out when I first heard this song in 1992.
Amazing sound, especially with headphones.

total noise = totally cool. In fact, we need more noise on this station. This is far from Lush's noisiest song.
I hope one day Bill will pull out something like Night of Frogs by Bardo Pond or something along those lines and completely freak out half his listeners!
Their noisiest would be Starlust - can I get an AMEN?

The video for this song is a precious artifact - the girls and their music are both totally dreamy!!

And add Curve to that list. I love that swirling sound too, even though it's electronic, paradoxically there's something so organic about it.

Judged by the sonic richness of this song, never has a band been so aptly named. Lush, indeed!

One of the band members (the drummer I think) tragically took his own life and they broke up. Not sure what the lead singer is doing now, I think she's put out a solo album, but am not sure...
Great band, though. All of their CD's (sadly, there weren't that many) have something to recommend them.

Sweet!
Just tuned in to RP, heard this song, said to myself, "Oh, I *know* this sound... who is it?" Clicked on the playlist... aha, of course, it's Lush! Scrolled down to read the mere 27 comments and to my surprise, I posted the first comment 3 1/2 years ago. And I'd say the same thing today. I just adore their sound, but I never hear them anywhere (not even here on RP). Bill, please play them more often!

Lush by name, Lush by sound. I wonder if they get drunk a lot as well...

The swirling guitars always give me goosebumps.
I love this band

Wow! Great memories, nice song. I really like the chorus in the back. To me this is an 8 on my list... Thanks RP for playing it.
I love this sound - very like my un-guilty aural pleasure of listening to the Bangles group (click here & check out track 10 on the samples). Why have I never heard of the group Lush before now??
Here is what an Amazon.com reviewer said -
Lush
The one thing which no one reviewing Lush's albums seems to notice is the level of harmonic maturity in their songs. They never take the easy or obvious resolution in a cadence or turnaround. The modulations are subtle and sometimes abrupt. Who cares about the lyrics. Whoever wrote the music (my guess is its the guitarist) knows their harmony.
(Click here for the Amazon.com web page.)
This sounds like the same reason I enjoy the Bangles' music (?!) - but Lush is even better!

I bet that a Lush & Cocteau Twins nostalgia tour would rake in the dough.
Wow...Lush a few minutes after Single Gun Theory...I'm back in college!

Doesn't matter...they're both delicious.
Speaking of Cocteau Twins...when are we going to hear some of their stuff on RP?
Very lush, no pun intended. More, anytime.
Wow, blast from the past. I'd totally forgotten them, but this track brought back some memories...:)

I completely agree, they were underrated. It is too bad they are no more, I get lost in this stuff.
I also saw them with Weezer, and Live in '94 I think.
Great band. Their last CD (can't remember the name of it right now) was a much different sound, but is really good. "Ladykillers" off that album rocks.
Aptly named band. Very evocative. An aural opiate.

also on the Spooky album...
Spooky and Gala are great albums... Common sound shared at the time with Slowdive & The Pale Saints...
One of my favourite Lush songs... wonderful...
I think I have a CD of their's floating around in my collection... think I might have to go dig it out...
Oh my... I am completely digging this! I know I have something by Lush on a mix tape made by a friend, but haven't listened to it in a long time. Great melody and great vocals... more Lush please!
