Now that I've worn out, I've worn out the world
I'm on my knees in fascination
Looking through the night
And the moon's never seen me before
But I'm reflecting light
I rode the pain down
Got off and looked up
Looked into your eyes
The lost open windows
All around
My dark heart lit up the skies
Now that I've worn, I've worn out the world
I'm on my knees in fascination
Looking through the night
And the moon's never seen me before
But I'm reflecting light
Give up the ground
Under your feet
Hold on to nothing for good
Turn and run at the mean dogs
Chasing you
Stand alone and misunderstood
And now that I've worn, I've worn out the world
I'm on my knees in fascination
Looking through the night
And the moon's never seen me before
But I'm reflecting light
I'm on my knees in fascination
Looking through the night
And the moon's never seen me before
But I'm reflecting light
I rode the pain down
Got off and looked up
Looked into your eyes
The lost open windows
All around

Now that I've worn, I've worn out the world

Very sweet and lovely.
a song I cannot listen to when I'm blue. Emotive in a very old-fashioned way
Hey RP: thanks for playing multiple songs from her.
She's really quite captivating.
Kudos.

I have metastatic breast cancer. I'm keeping a running list of songs I'd like to listen to as I'm dying. Seriously. I don't plan on it happening soon, but I want hopeful tunes - and nothing that will devistate my husband or family while they wait with me. This song made the list.
I hope this is how its going to be:

Kind of reminds me of young Marianne Faithful.
Is it because I am using the retired website that when I went to the artists' website, I got Elvis's Sam Phillips. This happened some years back and had apparently been fixed. Also, I think this Sam Phillips is an interesting character.
I became aware of this song watching The Gilmore Girls. I like the way that series uses music, especially having Grant Lee Phillips making cameos as the town troubadour.

I'm a sucker for anything that resembles a waltz.

Love Sam!
One of the more underrated and gifted songwriters.
What a lovely, melancholy waltz. Nice arrangement and evocative lyrics.
i like this song
can I have this dance?
Anew the proof that I invariably love songs in three-four time.
So nice. For some reason makes me want to wear a beret.
Simple, beautiful songs make the world better. Thanks, Bill.
I just love this song and always have, but when my mother died last year, I included it in a mix called "Pensive." It just brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. And besides the lyrics, it's a sweet waltz.
This my friends...is beautiful.
Yawn. PSD, take me to a happy place!!

I wonder how much she'd charge me to just have her on my porch, composing, playing guitar, and singing when I get home from work. I could see budgeting for this. Love her stuff.

heheh. A little harsh but I have to agree with your assessment. A few EP songs would be a nice addition to RP I think. Pretty good song though

How come she is not more widely acclaimed?

Is this a waltz? I am reminding of following the invisible 'box' on the floor in a dancing class. ooonnnneee, twothree, ooonnneee, twothree. (Insert waltzing bananas here.)
Adding this to my list. Thanks, Bill!
I love Sam Phillips, and would love to find that "Midnght Clear" recording... does anyone know where I can get it?
Sam's music gets better with each release, in my opinion. Perhaps not as approachable, but I thoroughly enjoy the gypsy jazz influence on her last two releases. It is amazing that she is not more popular, though Martinis and Bikinis did get some decent exposure with television and movie soundtracks.
BTW, her rendition of "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear" on the movie soundtrack for "A Midnight Clear" was stunning, and worth watching the movie. (The movie was pretty good too). Her song was so good, Bruce Cockburn covered it on his Christmas album, though his version wasn't nearly as good.

Don't know. Martinis and Bikinis is one of my all time favorite CD's. Well worth checking out if you like this. Very beatlesque.

First listen. Very nice. Love those strings, which give this the feel of a song from a romantic film from the 40's.
Something about her voice makes me happy.
Almost switched stations upon hearing the ghastly Psychedelic Furs. Glad I hung around.

While you are at it, pick up "Martinis and Bikini's." Excellent CD.
This is quite good.
YAWN
Sam is so awesome. I have seen her perform twice this year and both were mindblowing. Beautiful song.

I am definitely going to get this CD.
Oh yes. We must have more Sam Phillips.
Stiffy inducing!
I really like the sound of this. It has a sort of melancholy sound that I like. A little reminiscent of Janis Ian.
I love the background (cello?). Very Tom Waits arrangement. Beautiful song.
