My baby don't care for shows
My baby don't care for clothes
My baby just cares for me
My baby don't care for cars and races
My baby don't care for high-tone places

Liz Taylor is not his style
And even Lana Turner's smile
Is somethin' he can't see
My baby don't care who knows
My baby just cares for me

Baby, my baby don't care for shows
And he don't even care for clothes
He cares for me
My baby don't care
For cars and races
My baby don't care for
He don't care for high-tone places

Liz Taylor is not his style
And even Liberace's smile
Is something he can't see
Is something he can't see
I wonder what's wrong with baby
My baby just cares for
My baby just cares for
My baby just cares for me

Original lyrics

My baby don't care for shows
My baby don't care for clothes
My baby just cares for me
My baby don't care for cars and races
My baby don't care for high-tone places

Liz Taylor is not his style
And even Lana Turner's smile
Is somethin' he can't see

My baby don't care who knows it
My baby just cares for me

My baby don't care for shows
And he don't even care for clothes
My baby just cares for me

My baby don't care for cars and races
My baby don't care for
He don't care for high-tone places

I wonder what's wrong with baby
My baby just cares for
Just says his prayers for
My baby just cares for me

I went to see Nina Simone at Ronnie Scott's club in London's Soho back in the 1980s: it was such a fantastic concert that I immediately bought a ticket for the following night, hoping for more of the same.  Unfortunately a different Nina Simone sat down at the piano the next evening, and it was only later that I found out that she was a highly temperamental performer, and that I got both the good and the bad sides of her style.  But an unforgettable couple of nights, for sure.

Lucky dog. Even if you did get the Janus effect.

Cool story. Thank You for sharing it!
Somewhere
Across the sea
Somewhere
Waiting for me
My lover stands on golden sands
And watches the ships
That go saa-ailing
fabulous
Hear that she sold the song for a bottle of whiskey and missed out on a lot of money. Fortunately, she later she made a new recording, which gave her good money and fame.

Even without vocals this would be amazing - add Nina's voice and... just pow and wow! 👍

Totally Cool!!
I love this even though she hated performing it, which always informs my enjoyment of it
What Nina could do with the simplest possible melody.  Amazing talent.
What happened, Miss Simone?

hey Bill, how about Bowie's version of "Wild Is The Wind" after this?
Wish more music were unprocessed just live

maybe she's singing it to casual for you?
she sounds good to me but maybe a bit mellowed-out
also love the band

10 x 1.7 because ... why not?
Also a GREAT jazz pianist. Jus' sayin'. Mmmmhmmmn.
There are so many definitions of "love." I think it's unavoidable to describe her voice without recourse to at least one of them.
Love this song.

A wonderful evening of music.  Thanks RP.

Thank you Bill
Cooking dinner. Beautiful set of songs. Thanks!
Super smooth, soulful and spirited Simone sound, BABY, excellent choice to follow Amy Winehouse. Thank you Radio Paradise. For sure, it's something we can't see. :)
I love this and previous combo - check out Nina's version of Wild is the Wind !
Finally started paying attention to Nina Simone after watching Liv Perry dancing to this song with Carlo in that movie—oh you know the one. For awhile it was the first song on my Winamp playlist (after RP of course) and every now and then when my connection dropped I'd of a sudden be listening to it thinking that I was still listening to RP. Always knew it belonged here but surprisingly it's the first time I've actually heard it on RP.  Oh yeah, that movie was Stealing Beauty—not particularly memorable (to me) except that it led to a greater appreciation for more of Nina's music.

Reminds me a bit of a slightly subdued and refined Nellie Lutcher. I'd LOVE to hear some Nellie Lutcher here on RP. Maybe I should try and upload some and see what happens.{#Eh} This is really great!
First heard this when I saw the Aardman cartoon. Been hooked on Nina ever since... R.I.P. you feisty woman.

seriously, what was I thinking?

Would really really love to hear that original medley after this!

Hell, I'd even settle for DLR's silly cover.  But, only if we can't get some Prima!
Sounds great, Love It, but watching videos of Nina is underwhelming  . . .
Yes, dear, I'll fix the dishwasher in a minute. I'm thinking right now...
I was not enjoying this about the first minute or so, but then, it grabbed me. Damn, I love that piano playing!

Always knew she was one cool cat.
This lady knew how to sing, eh?

Extra eclectic afternoon, and terribly appreciated!  Thanks, Bill!
This is Great!
Nina Simone defines sexy and sultry. Ahhh!

She never sang a song the same twice.  She added variations, pauses, drawls.  She was so great!  I have more of her CD's than any other artist.

She is the high priestess of soul. What else can I say? Your exploration will be well rewarded.

This is soooo cool and by cool I mean cool in the old late 50s early 60s style of cool. Sweet. Thanks for starting Monday AM so smoothly. :)
Thanks Bill. Miss Nina is a great way to start off a Friday morning!

Some damn yuppie-oriented TV commercial used this, and now I can't hear it without thinking of some damn commercial for a conspicuous consumption product that I fortunately can't remember. Undoubtedly a car. Why must those advertising people destroy everything that is good and holy? And now, back to our show.
...It was for a perfume and I seem to remember the imagery fitting the music pretty well, a woman walking towards the camera sort of in beat to the music. It didn't make me want to buy the product but it did make want to hear more by Nina Simone.

Yeah, and the goodbye better be binomial, none of that monomial crap!
Some of you predicted Nina would be next. Wow, you're good. Who do you have to win in the third race at Santa Anita?
Thank you Mr Dj!
A talent like no other. Absolutely unique and original. Practically a force of nature.

Fortunately, I've already forgotten about the TV commercial. They'll come and go, but artists like Nina Simone are forever. Man, this is IT. Words. Simply. Fail.

I heard her for the first time during the last scene in "Before Sunset". Man, I have been missing out. I'm now addicted.
Nina effortlessly just outclassed the last nine artists played. Great, great latter day track. This one's definitely getting played at my wedding.

"...my baby don't care for, high tone places..." - Nina Simone "...mindin' other peoples business seems to be high tone, I've got all that I can do just to mind my own..." - Hank Williams I love that the term exists as honesty that weaves through dissimilar circles... ...and both songs are 10's.
My wife and I just adore this song. It's one to hold hands to with someone you love.
