The thrill is gone
The thrill is gone away
The thrill is gone baby
The thrill is gone away
You know you done me wrong baby
And you'll be sorry someday

The thrill is gone
It's gone away from me
The thrill is gone baby
The thrill is gone away from me
Although, I'll still live on
But so lonely I'll be

The thrill is gone
It's gone away for good
The thrill is gone baby
It's gone away for good
Someday I know I'll be open armed baby
Just like I know a good man should

You know I'm free, free now baby
I'm free from your spell
Oh I'm free, free, free now
I'm free from your spell
And now that it's all over
All I can do is wish you well

Hot song! Great musicians, including Jim Kerwin on bass.
Wouldn't be great if you hit PSD and it took you to the B. B. King version?
Pretty cool stuff... never heard this before..

Not that it is remotely trying to, of course.
This is good,  The picking is obviously great.  But the mood and feeling that BB and Lucille project ....well them be some big shoes to fill.
Enjoyable, but cannot hold a candle to the original.
Very nice. I'm old, but I'd never heard this. Made me smile, then I checked to see who it was and it really made me smile.
Battle of the beards.
Play this more often! Love the tune and love the guitar picking!

Fine with me.

Good choice.
No thanks.....awful

And they should keep it in the house with the dawgs.
Way to trivialize and undermine the heartfelt, soulful mood and meaning of the original.
I think their beards used their brains as fertilizer.
These guys called this "dawg music" and it goes back to the "Old and In the Way" album
Nice.  Heading to Dead on the Creek (https://www.deadonthecreek.com/) next weekend, so this is more than apropos!

Nice version...nice voice.....nice guitar...

BB

B.B. no like.

Biting commentary.  I disagree, but can I borrow that smiley gif?

None better. They made magical music together. I'm a very Grateful Dawg.

Boring music AND depressing lyrics. A winning combination.

{#Roflol} Yep, this isn't a patch on BB's version (was it his song, or did he cover it too?). Still, it's acceptable, and better Grateful Dawg than Grateful Dead. At least Garcia's not stoned out of his gourd and is singing in tune and coherently. Nice gittar (or is that a ukulele?) pickin', too.

The thrill was never there for me.  I guess I missed out on that party.  Bummer.  I wish it would get over already.  Mute.

What are you going to wear Jerry?
I dunno...what about you Dave?
how about plain ol black shirts?
Cool with me

If I recall correctly, a plain black T-shirt paired with blue jeans was pretty much Jerry's standard uniform - at least it was at nearly every Dead show I ever attended.

The black t's set off their grey hair.
There's a guy who sings like this at our local farmer's market.

I love this version of the song, and this whole album is really excellent.

Well, I love it, so I guess I must be old.  Don't trust anyone under thirty.

I'm not nearly high enough to make this a good song.

The Garcia and Grisman album that this song came from was one of my favourites back in university.
Everyone that I played it for became an instant fan.

I have never met anyone in "real life" that didn't like it.

I guess the interweb is a whole different story.

The Garcia/Grisman album is one of favourites to relax with.
Though I haven't listened to this soundtrack... but this tune is on the G/G record they put out.

You know, the playing is pretty good.
Garcia's voice has always been wrong.
Why not take a bad song and try to make it good, rather than take a good song and make it bad.

Couldn't Jerry just destroy this tune in the privacy of his own garage rather than subject the public to it?

Yeah!

Let's dig him up, prop him up against the wall of the lobby in a movie theater, and have him arrested for loitering!

...Then we'll bail him out and kick his ass for this!

(Or I guess you could just hit the mute button.)

With a song like this, you have to delivery the lyrics believably. Like a good actor. And from what I'm hearing I just don't believe that he believes what he's singing. So low marks for that.
Two days 'til Springfest in beautiful Live Oak, Florida - Nirvana!! {#Sunny}
This would be a lot better without the singing.

My witty and appropriate image response keeps being resized, so you can just look at it here.

excelent version of this blues-song released and written by Rick Darnell and Roy Hawkins in 1951; but i confess that only heard it the first time, when this song was popularized in 1969 for B. B. King; also was very well gotten the version of this song in duet for B. B. King & Tracy Chapman

** 9 **

I just love the stuff that Garcia and Grisman did.  If you can get your hands on some of the live recordings (they might be available at archive.org) check them out.  Fantastic stuff.

Good stuff.

This is a complete re-interpretation of the old blues standard and it works perfectly!! A complete success under the terms of the Mugro Doctrine of Covers.

Thank you Jerry and David for bringing forward so many tunes from the roots of American music!!

I totally agree, love this interpretation, Grisman is a machinegun on mandolin and Garcia shows his accoustic prowess. This in no way takes anything from the man MR BB KING am sure he appreciates the flattery of them covering his great song

They take the song and make it their own.........otherwise it's a rehash of the original. It's not bluesy anymore for one thing and the instrumental work (a large part of the music, more so that the original) is great. Solid 9

No one's missing anything.
My "Dawg" made his breakfast "his own" this morning - it's called VOMIT.
He also made last nights dinner "his own" -  we call that s**t.
Couldn't Jerry just destroy this tune in the privacy of his own garage rather than subject the public to it?
I like Jerry Garcia's music a lot, with few exceptions.  This is one of them.
oh hell yeah!  {#Cowboy}
I don't think the thrill was ever really here in this one.
{#Guitarist}
More DAWG music !!!!!!!!!!!!
{#Bananajam}
Love folky, bluegrass stuff. A+{#Clap}
I respectfully disagree.  The thrill ain't gone.  Still lovin' it.
Refreshing! Thanks. {#Bananapiano}

We haven't "missed the point" we just don't like what they did with the song. It may be "their own" now, but I wished they had not shared it! Also when someone gets old and loses their voice, they should stop singing.
this doesn't work but i'll tell ya what does check out their version of Wild Horses. brilliant.

Hey! Now we're talking. They made a video to this. Jerry's all decked out in a suit and a tie!
fades by comparision to the original.
There was never more aptly named song. . .
Like painting a beard on the Mona Lisa. Clearly no thrill here

Me too! 2001 perhaps?
What's the point playing such a horrible remake?
This song has a 6.7 rating, which isn't bad at all. I just checked to see the rating for B. B. King's version. There is some justice in this world. It has 9.2 rating with 55% of the votes giving it a 10. This version just can't stand up next to the original. I'm not saying it's bad... oh hell I am. It's bad.
This doesn't do it for me.

Is that why you have this? 10 - Grateful Dead - Ripple (live)
I've tried to like that song but can't because I've been exposed to so much unlistenable crap from the Dead I just curl up into a mental ball and shut my ears. I can listen to "Ripple" and acknowledge it has a pleasant melody(and even that through some technological miracle the instruments are almost in the same key) but once that terrible voice starts squeaking it's all over.
I love the Dead, and I love this song, but this version really sucks. It just doesn't fit - like Stairway to Heaven played on the kazoo or Smoke on the Water played on the harpsicord. Oftentimes different arrangements give a song a fresh feeling...but not this time.

You're kidding, right? If you like this or not (I think it's shockingly dull), you have it admit the BB King version is much more "thrilling".
Love the dead but not this...

Ooooh...that was brutal. That version should have been called "The Emotion is Gone".
