It's all coming back to me now
That strange and almost endless dream
Where I was you and you were me
You opened up your eyes and I could see
That you were falling from the world
As aimless as a shooting star in orbit around me
Thinking I was somebody else
And terrified to look at me and see yourself, well...
You are like a dream
And I am just a trip that you are on
When the trip is over you will go back
To the places that you once beloved
You will look for comfort there
And when you do you'll find that it has gone
That is when you'll dream a dream
Where I am you and you are me
And then you'll know my love
So don't be afraid
Your heart is in me
And it's racing so fast now
'Cause everything we ever were or ever will be
Is shapeless as a changing cloud
Your letter written on the sky
I'm needing now to read it through my eyes
When you see just what I see
Then tenderly watch it change
And just let it be
'Cause I am like a dream
And you are just a trip that I am on
When the trip is over I will go back
To the places that I once beloved
And I will look for comfort there
And when I do I know it will be gone
That is when I'll dream a dream
Where I am you and you are me
And then I'll know your love
...so quiet now...
This is just some trip that we are on
When the trip is over we will think of this
As someplace that we once beloved
When I find no comfort here
I'll look again to find it in your arms
That is where I'll dream a dream
Where I am you and you are me
And that's where I know love
That strange and almost endless dream
Where I was you and you were me

So sad that we have been robbed of Poe's work for so many years due to greedy bastard record companies.

It happens every time... I hear the first few notes and think it's Center of the Sun.
So I'm disappointed, but only for a moment... this is a great track too. 8

Poe's voice is "almost insouciant" -- what was in the original comment -- in this recording. She seems to sing without effort, as if she's just singing in the kitchen while rustling up a BLT for lunch.

I'm at risk of straying off topic, so, this is still a boss song. Additionally, good artists remain with or without mechanical embellishment.

That's possible, but there are several effects going on in the vocals: multi-tracking, phase-shifting, pans, etc. Whatever they did was probably more for effect than to "correct" her pitch. A lot of people tend to mistake phase-shifting for autotune.
Additionally, a lot of people tend to mistake autotune for a musician-aid, rather than an intentional effect. Even if it is used here, it's used to artistic effect.
I'll also go out on a limb with this crowd to say that T-Pain, the "lame rapper dude" in the post you responded to, made autotune popular as an artistic style because it sounded cool, not because he can't sing. Anyone who wants proof need only search him singing a-cappella on YouTube.

Poe always gets a high rating. 9 for me.
The first two albums! Brilliant!
Poe gets something across in her voice that communicates much more than mere sound. This is a great vehicle for transport...
Poe is a victim of the recording industry M&A. Through Conjure One and Delerium(?) we get to hear her.
Heading hard into an EIGHT.

I guess I fall into the odd category of those who will attentively listen to anything sung by Poe. Her voice is so distinctive and the choice of material so compelling that there is no choice in the matter. Seems like an interesting person who has a voice like no other.

Впервые услышав эту песню однозначно было приятно понять, что мелодия совсем неординарная. Хорошее сочитание вокала вызывает одновременно радость и грусть.
And with google translate:
When I first heard this song was definitely nice to realize that the melody quite extraordinary. Good promptness vocal calls at the same time joy and sadness.

"The world is like a ride in an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. The ride goes up and down, around and around, it has thrills and chills, and it's very brightly colored, and it's very loud, and it's fun for a while. Many people have been on the ride a long time, and they begin to wonder, "Hey, is this real, or is this just a ride?" And other people have remembered, and they come back to us and say, "Hey, don't worry; don't be afraid, ever. Because this is just a ride." And we...kill those people. "Shut him up! I've got a lot invested in this ride, shut him up! Look at my furrows of worry, look at my big bank account, and my family. This has to be real." It's just a ride. But we always kill the good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok? But it doesn't matter, because it's just a ride. And we can change it any time we want. It's only a choice. No effort, not work, no job, no savings of money. Just a simple choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love instead see all of us as one. Here's what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would pay for many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace."

Nice Poe. Solid 7
Her voice reminds me a little of Karen Carpenter.
One of the things I really enjoy about RP is the way other listeners can share their knowledge and views, the vocal credit for this track is simply Jane, however RP sleuths reveal her true identity as Poe (confirmed by the Amazon review) and I for one now want to discover more about her work.

She has the ability to be this close >< to being a quarter-tone flat yet she always makes the note. Judy Collins tries the same trick but hardly ever gets away with it. Ella Fitzgerald is the queen of this technique but I really like Poe's voice.

I guess if Conjure One is the best gig she can get right now, so be it; but I long for something new and personal from her. What a treasure.

well i must admit that i haven't paid attention to the lyrics — but no matter how good they might conceivably have been — what a godawful song! i heard hundreds exactly like it, broadcast endlessly by trashy radiostations (which RP is certainly not) in taxis around the world... or am i missing some subtle thing?! can't say there was room for much subtlety in that song though...

Er, no. Karen Carpenter had an extremely mannered singing style. I see no similarity, as I tend to find Poe's work very good, whereas the Carpenters defined middle of the road pop.
Wow. This sucks.
