Fields are white in snowy spring and I can't remember
The last time that I've seen her
The highway is still cold and wet and I can't forget
The way I had to leave her
And every passing day, she flickers and she fades
Is someone to catch her when she falls from the heavens?

And I'll love her yet, though she has done me wrong
And I'll bring her back, though she has been long gone
And I'll always be her
Broken hearted savior

And every heavy night
Takes out the little life that's left within her
Every man she gives her love, he takes it
And leaves her with a dinner
Our love was once a flame, now I'm just a forgotten name
Am I the only one to blame for ever loving her?

And I'll love her yet, though she has done me wrong
And I'll bring her back, though she has been long gone
And I'll always be her
Broken hearted savior

100% with you. In fact I may very well have been at the same party - I was there at that time too. In fact I had Todd in one on my classes too. Cheers!

October 2011.... Harvest Moon Festival @ Callaway Gardens, Pine Mountain, GA.  BHT flew in on the second day, played a hell of a set and then flew out.  Great memory.
Horrendous snare.
Me and my friends went to a house party in Boulder 35 years ago...  In the corner of the family room -  these guys.   It was a good party.
Tune has a great groove going on, but it is the connective guitar riffs that make it really come together.
These guys must like being around each other.  They have been together for nearly 40 years!
Making me feel nostalgic. But I've never heard this before. Now THAT'S a compliment.
A rare and pure ten for me.
Oof, that gated reverb on the snare was very much "of its time" wasn't it. Especially awful on the verse snare.

Extremely average track. 24/7/365 american radio filler.
sweet.   definitely a song to sing along to.
This band is growing on me.
Saw them in Hammerjacks in Baltimore in what must have been 1993. Todd broke probably upwards of 20 guitar strings in an all-out jam fest. We stood behind the stage on the second level, which put us right on top of them. I watched his roadie run his poor ass off that show. I remember thinking that guy needed an assistant.
One of my favorite bands.  In fact, they're 2nd to Jethro Tull in the number of tunes on my playlist.
YES!  Love BHTM!
Yes sir I like em
And, to think they played at my house in college, w/drums being metal flour tins, and I was caught saying..."I'm not sure this band will go anywhere, but I am having a damn good time!"  Rock on, brothers...

The producer for this album was David Z, who produced a lot of stuff in the 1980s into the '90s.  He was a apparently a big fan of that gated reverb, "punchy" snare drum sound.
Great song William! Keep it coming. RP Rocks your socks off.

Is it possible that's the sound they were going for? I'm blissfully ignorant of these particulars.

IMO this is often why many albums' drum sound is terrible, as in the 70s and the very anemic, dull, flat drums on dozens of otherwise great albums, which seemed to be the trend then. Bad micing of kits, overprocessing or the wrong kind, or simply very dry, muffled drum set-ups.

Listen to guys like Lenny White, John Bonham, or Danny Carey, and several of the jazz cats who often used a "wide open" sound - and their producers knew enough to record them that way and not process it to oblivion.

Saw Big Head Todd again this summer sharing the bill with Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue.  What a fantastic show!  They alternated opening for each other all through the tour.  Since Shorty opened for BHT the night before in Red Rocks, Todd repaid the favor and opened for Troy the next night at Red Butte Gardens.  Definitely the best most high energy show I have seen in a few years.

Don't understand the hate for this band.

What a show they gave us Saturday night in Boulder!  You could tell they were glad to be home — Todd was grinning and playing every note with incredible gusto, and Rob and Brian rocked a solid wall of sound behind him.  In addition to the basic ivory Strat that he jams like nobody else can, Todd had a wild custom hollow-body Telecaster-thing, a Jaguar-styled thing with a super-whammy he used to his heart's content and never broke a string in spite of his tireless muscular verve, and he also showed a new fondness and crazy talent on a spiffy old National...  They played this and other classics, and also lots of new more Delta-Bluesy kinda stuff he's into; stuff he said will be on their upcoming release early next year.  We danced our buns off through two long sets and felt like it was the show of a lifetime...
If you have never seen these mad cats jam, you gotta try before you die.
Can't help singing "Purple Headed Stranger"

Great classic Rock sound!

I too hav great time from the 80z n 90z... 70z ?..dont recall them all that well
A SOLID BLUES ROCKER TO REMIND US OF ALL THE GOOD TIMES TUNES that Todd & The Monsters have given us to dance and party to over the years. They are part of us and we are part of them; inseparable and happier for it! Those of us who DO get it can't live without it. Todd, we'll always love and worship you! Home Goods Are Best and can't be forgotten! and we all start doing a reminiscent swoon every dang time we hear this! ROCK ON, BHT and RP!
I saw them open up for Dave Matthews Band back in 1994.  They played an afternoon show that was outside at our local airport.  DMB had to fly out later that day to play on SNL that night.  They got quite big after that day.  Still have great memories of an amazing show with two bands that both had air-tight chops.  This song always reminds me of that day.

The following is from the web site "Urban Legends:"

The Origin of the F-Word

Netlore Archive: In which we are told with a straight face that the word 'fuck' originated as the acronym of 'Fornication Under Consent of the King,' 'Fornication Under Command of the King,' 'For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge,' or some other variation thereof.

Description: Folk etymology
Circulating since: The 1960s
Status: False

Analysis: Having consulted the definitive reference work on this subject (yes, there is such a thing: The F-Word by Jesse Sheidlower, published by Random House in 1999), I feel confident in dismissing all the claims above as imaginative bunk.

The word fuck did not originate as an acronym. It crept, fully formed, into the English language from Dutch or Low German around the 15th century (it's impossible to say precisely when because so little documentary evidence exists, probably due to the fact that the word was so taboo throughout its early history that people were afraid to write it down). The American Heritage Dictionary says its first known occurrence in English literature was in the satirical poem "Flen, Flyss" (c.1500), where it was not only disguised as a Latin word but encrypted — gxddbov — which has been deciphered as fuccant, pseudo-Latin for "they fuck."

According to Sheidlower, the earliest claims in print of supposed acronymic origins for the F-word appeared during the 1960s. An underground newspaper called the East Village Other published this version in 1967:

It's not commonly known that the word "fuck" originated as a medical diagnostic notation on the documests of soldiers in the British Imperial Army. When a soldier reported sick and was found to have V.D., the abbreviation F.U.C.K. was stamped on his documents. It was short for "Found Under Carnal Knowledge."

Two more variants appeared in a letter published in Playboy magazine in 1970:

My friend claims that the word fuck originated in the 15th Century, when a married couple needed permission from the king to procreate. Hence, Fornication Under Consent of the King. I maintain that it's an acronym of a law term used in the 1500s that referred to rape as Forced Unnatural Carnal Knowledge."

Undoubtedly the most famous use of this etymological travesty was as the title of the 1991 Van Halen album, "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge."

You are right about the athorization of the king qoute. Back in the day when Knights where bold and there was no indoor plumbing the king had athoritation rule. If the King said it was OK to fornicate then you could do it with with out the sinful results of God frowning upon it. "The King Said it Was OK" was the cop-out. It all sounds petty dumb by todays standards but my research indicates that it is close to the truth. With all of this said, I really don't think it is such a bad word. S.H.I.T has a good story of origin but I will save that one for another time.

Heard the first few bars, cranked it up (I think the neighbors have called 911), and I don't care - I love this song! Big Head Todd - how can you NOT love a band with a name like that? And they back the name with good music, so, icing on the cake.

This band personifies "generic."
Recently saw the video recorded at Red Rocks a while back. I thought they rocked! Just the three of them, too.
They've made I don't know how many versions of this song. They've got two or three hits and each of those they've re-recorded a whole bunch of times trying to get another hit with the same hit with a bit of a different twist to the tune each time, acoustic or electric, bluesy or rootsy or whatever. Still, I think they've got some good songs, like Bittersweet, and I prefer the more acoustic version version of this song that has better timing in it, this version is just monotonous and doesn't serve the lyrics well the way the other version does. These guys were big shots in their hometown Boulder Colorado. I lived there when they were up and coming and they were arrogant as heck, they thought they were too special when all they could do back then was imitate Stevie Ray Vaughan. We used to call them Big Swelled Head Todd. I only respected them years later when they actually wrote some decent songs and came up with their own sound.

The rating of 3, "Ho Hum," is misleading. I sincerely dislike this song, no "ho hum" about it. It's not bad enough to warrant a 2, tho. That's for songs that will corrupt your soul. 3 is just as low as you can go without causing harm to yourself or loved ones.
