Where do we go from here?
The road through Ruby Falls has reached the end
And now we're digging in the sand
They're promising that help is on the way
Love, confession number one
Impossible and sorry
And judge, can you look the other way?
Some things are best unsaid
And now where can we go from here
When all the morning birds have gone away
Two wrongs won't navigate tonight
The afterlife is all in the end
The afterlife is ours in the end
Love, don't look me in the eye
Just wash it all down
And judge, can you let me run away
We're outta here, straight outta here
Somewhere down buried in the sand
Two birds give out a song
And all of Ruby Falls is singin' along
Sing along...
(...gone and turned away (?))
(...gonna make you pay (?))
They took a good idea and polished it into perfection
love this. it makes me ache for some reason.
i wonder what it's real meaning is. love it so.
Not sure what this song was written for but I relate due to being sued frivolously for several years.

It's amazing how well this band blends the soundscapes of The Beach Boys, The Shins, and even Pink Floyd into magical masterpiece
wow. you nailed it for me.
i get so emotional with this one. it's lovely.
...we hope....that you choke...that you choke...
yes, it does ring that in the one place, too. but somehow, i think this is more accessible for many listeners. so much hatred for radiohead. i actually love that song, and this one - but i immediately thought of your reference, too.
I started listening to RP in 2003. Back then I was ordering CDs from BMG. I just recently found, and tossed, the invoices. I could tell you every CD I bought, and there were many, that I would have never know about without this station. I LOVE this song BTW.
I think this came out soon after I started listening to RP. I remember it distinctly as a 'Why haven't I heard this any where else?' . And, yes, my CD collection is much richer thanks to William.
Similarly, I've added a couple dozen songs from the 'found thanks to RP' category to my top-five list in the last 20 years, which has also helped keep listening to these "airwaves".
Long Live RP and lists of five that include 24!!

This song came out about the same time I started listening to Radio Paradise, 14 years ago now. It was a big reason I stuck around. Still think it's in my top 5 songs from the last twenty years. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any others at the moment, but I only got 3 hours of sleep last night so I can't think about much of anything right now.

This song's 10 years old and still I stop what I'm doing and listen every time it gets queued up.
Cranking the volume on my Mac as well. 15 years in now.
Ever have totally unhinged, amazing sex? If so, do you just jump into the next agenda of your day? No....you lay there and calm down, breathe deeply and relish the moment of calm. This ending is the soundtrack for that time. If you have no idea what I'm talking about...then I have some due sympathy for you. Long story short...just try and imagine it.
Hadn't thought through the end, other than to enjoy the muted trumpet solo that came out of nowhere, but your analogy for the end works really, really well. Especially "two birds give out a song and all of Ruby Falls is singin' along". I've been there and it takes a bit of breathing before normalcy resumes.
Good call!
same here
Same here. RP is the only venue I visit these days. A wonderful experience every day.
ps I hope you got some kip...
This is hitting all my YES buttons today.

(I had to dig deep for that, at work of course)
Makes me sad, that Guster didn‘t record more songs
with a depth in sound like this one. I find their works rather shallow
compared to Ruby Falls (which by the way was the first Guster track I
ever listened to and I absolutely deeply love it). Even more this one
deserves a 9 from me. One of my all time favorites from start to finish.

Yeah, I don't get this one either. I think Ruby Falls is a great tune. Maybe even a representative one for the band. But they've done plenty of other stuff that is just as good or better. Look no further than the title track of their latest CD.
This production gets a 10 from moi.

Sometimes, it's ok when you do not.
What an amazing song this is!

Long live Radio Paradise!
Listening (with interrruptions) for more than 10 years now. RADIO PARADISE beats them all !!
From Germany with Kudos.
You are Werner... from where else would you be but from Germany! Agree with you that RP is awesome.
And this song is one big f*ck comma cluster
... HUTT, HUTT.
I like longer songs, or pieces really, and wasn't surprised to hear BillG pair this beautifully with the splendid TWOD piece "Thinking of a place "
And it does feel so very real.
Awesome segue as usual!
I may be one of the very few RP listeners who actually has had enough of this song. Along with a few other songs, I downloaded this to my ipod about ten years ago to hear while I work out. I have been listening to it ever since...because I am too lazy to update my tracks. I can't even remember how I felt about this song when I first downloaded it. I must have liked it enough to download it in the first place I guess.

It's a good thing you sold that Electra 225 or you'd have been stuck for a rhyme.
would Deuce and a Quarter work?
Yes!
It's all good. Not a bad song on this album.
Same here. I always have to stop and listen, They played it live here in Raleigh - it was amazing.
But who cares. That melody! Those harmonies! It's a lovely tune.

Yep... and hearing them play this live in concert (Northampton, MA) last October brought tears to my eyes. Their harmonies are spot on, and this song is emotionally evocative to the extreme.
Commercial radio died a long time ago. Here is what it used to be like: https://floydslips.blogspot.com/2009/07/freeform-radio-masterdave-dixon-on-wabx.html.
That's what I said to my tax adjuster.
That was exactly what I thought when I first heard it here!
After the london show I'll make sure to see them if they ever come back. Great live show.
I have some really cool memories of seeing these guys live. I don't usually do this kind of thing, but for some reason I can recall three separate Guster shows where I had snuck somewhere I shouldn't have been and ended up having an awesome time. One time I saw them with some friends at the Berkeley Community Theater in Berkeley, CA. The upper mezzanine floor was closed and it was just general admission on the ground floor. When the band before Guster finished their set, we went out into the foyer to check out the merch and stuff, and I snooped around and found the way up to the upper floor — and it was unlocked! We waited for our moment and all sprinted through the door as quickly as we could, shutting it behind us. When we got up there it was completely empty, we had the whole balcony to ourselves and never got caught. We sat front and center and smoked joints and rocked out the whole show.

I agree - the song has a dramatic, rapturous climax that ends in spasms, flailing and finally collapsing into itself.
