Rock steady baby!
That's what I feel now
Let's call this song exactly what it is

Step n' move your hips
With a feelin' from side to side
Sit yourself down in your car
And take a ride

And while you're movin'
Rock steady
Rock steady baby
Let's call this song exactly what it is
(What it is -what it is - what it is)

It's a funky and low down feelin'
(What it is)
In my hips from left to right
(What it is)
What it is
Is I might be doin'
(What it is)
This funky dance all night
Oh!
(Let me hear ya gotta feelin' in the air)
Oh!
(Gotta a feelin' an ain't got a care)
Oh!
(What fun to take this ride
Rock steady will only slide)

Rock steady........ rock steady baby
Rock steady........ rock steady baby

Not terrible but it really adds nothing to an already great song.
Loose Fit by the Happy Mondays to follow?

That's fine.

But if something sucks...it sucks.

This sucks.

Not trying to "improve," you're right. Trying to "re-CREATE" and honor I believe.
Let's call this song exactly what it is...GARBAGE

Aretha shoulda sued
So improbable, so Radio Paradise.
this is an abortion
This is awesome - It's good to mix the old with the new. Sometimes it works and yeah sometimes it doesn't. I've heard some crappy mashups, but this one is pretty damn good IMO!

But of course you've got the ultra-purists who cough up their skulls at the slightest change to any classic. Get our of your bubble guys and have some fun with it! You can always slap the original vinyl back on later.
I kinda wanna hear the rest of the album, look at those track names (NSFW)!

Strangely this track isn't listed?
Gets my feets dancing
Ruinous! This DJ must be related to Satan, seeing as he's stolen all the soul from this song.
Quite unnecessary - nothing was added. Yuck.
This Is lacking the groove of the original by Light Years. Light Years.

 Shut up.

Zebra has great mash-ups! Not my favourite but still creative as hell!
To whoever said "remixes are crap"... Well, try to craft one yourself and tell us how it went.
Blasphemy!
This song actually has a great bassline which you can't hear over the sound of the stupid remix.
Hates it.
No. No, no, no, no, no.  Non, even.
Outstanding. thanks Bill.
It's Ok, but it lost the funky groove of the original.
NOIR DESIR "L'homme pressé".  Bill when will you put TOSTAKY ??  Please
nearly impossible to improve on Aretha. This certainly doesn't.

EH HEY BIP  BOP BIP BO BOP BIP BO BOP  BIP BIP BIP BIP
WHAT IT IS WHAT IT IS
And if I put my fingers here, and if I say
"I love you, dear"
And if I play the same three chords,
Will you just yawn and say
It's all been done before

- Bare Naked Ladies

But more importantly Where U @? Who is it is? Why 4 U talk dis way?
I sure hope they sent Aretha A BIG PORTION of their royalties!!!!!! {#Devil_pimp}
An innovative way to ruin a song.
Shayde, you say "drivel". I say "dreck".

Interesting.

Remixes and sampling can be fun and creative. A nice break from the routine if only in small doses.

The only thing that peeves me is when praise, usually from the press, for this technique goes overboard. I don't want to hear that every Rapper who samples is great (i.e., P Diddy) or a genius (i.e., Kanye) because he has a hit with a previously recorded song. They use it as a crutch because they can't come up with anything original.

Devils advocate:

how is that different from most pop songs (good and bad alike) which recycle the same chord progressions over and over.

Hell, PM Dawn's Jesus wept samples tons of stuff.  I recall, for example, that Downtown Venus samples Deep Purple (kentucky woman?) but I'm certain I never would have known it was in there if i hadn't read the credits, and I'm sure they could have gotten someone to reproduce the snippets (and probably without paying a royalty).

Sampling can be done in very original ways that I sometimes think are harder to come up with than to just hire some session guys to come in and fill in the blanks.

In the end, it's just using a different palate.  And in all cases it can be great and it can suck.  Virtually everyone samples.  Hell, Dream Theater sampled on Images And Words.

what it is....is zat english???{#Bananajam}dough no dough ent kare{#Bananapiano}

How many times can we say 'What it is?'

What it is is talent reprocessed as drivel.

Whatever,

this is cleverly and originally done.  and listenable for sure

The fact that this remix butchers Aretha is very clever, considering the fact that the person described in the song would gladly do it, just to get a couple quick bucks.

Gotta go, I'm a man on a Rush.

What the.... Aretha? Are you in there? Do you need help?
Aretha and the Family Stone?

The horns really remind me of Cake.
Yeah! I generally don't like this kind of thing, but this is doin' it!!!

If you don't speak French, the lyrics roughly translate as; 'Rule one, you don't have to shout so loud, Rule two, if asked, say you are Canadian, Rule three, you don't have to shout" repeat

Whenever I heard the term "rock steady" I think of that TMNT bad guy. I read too many books to my son years ago. I actually like DJ Zebra's stuff. Weird, but I like it. ReRe rocks no matter how you do her.

no need to. There's serious music outsite as well as serious crap inside the US. Of course the same applies to Europe. Take it easy, cowboy

I like it. Necessary or not, it grooves.

Useless remix. Original version is much better

I'll give this a 10 too. This is great! Why I LUV RP
I'm not a big fan of DJs butchering classics but this one is actually enjoyable. I think RP has the Noir Desir original in rotation. 8/10 for the track. 10/10 for the eclectic radio.
Stuff like this is why I listen to RP. What iTunes might call "Unclassifiable". :o)

She didnt take lessons she sang over top of aretha's vocals and called it her song. My first ever 1. Sorry cant abide.
10 of course
It's a remix of a song from Noir Desir, french rock band. https://www.radioparadise.com/content.php?name=Music&func=search
Aretha could snap that guy's baguette in half with a flick of her mighty wrist.
Not good.
can't dispute this segue. like it
Is it a kind of version from a Noir Desir song, isn't it?
I like this. It's a different spin on the original.

The woman singer took lessons from the great Aretha?
Not bad, but not nearly as interesting as Aretha's original. Most notably, it's missing the funky bass line. A bit more danceable, though.

I need more french rap in my life... Cafe Au Lait anyone? Silly movie, but I want that soundtrack!
