I was at a funeral the day I realized
I wanted to spend my life with you
Sitting down on the steps at the old post office
The flag was flying at half-mast
And I was thinkin' 'bout how everyone is dying
And maybe it's time to live
I don't know where we're going
I don't know what we'll do
Walked into the Thriftee
Saw a man with the hollow eyes
Who didn't give me all my change
But it didn't bother me this time
'Cause I know I've only got this moment
And it's good
I went to the gas station
Old woman honked her horn
Waiting for me to fix her car
I don't know where we're going
I don't know what we'll do
Laying in bed tonight I'm was thinking
And listening to all the dogs
And the sirens and the shots
And how a careful man tries to dodge the bullets
While a happy man takes a walk
And maybe it's time to live
I wanted to spend my life with you
Sitting down on the steps at the old post office
The flag was flying at half-mast
And I was thinkin' 'bout how everyone is dying
And maybe it's time to live

love his voice
love him live.

It was around 2002 I got turned on to Eels, right here on RP, and I have to say they are a fantastic band! Mr. E is quite the songwriter!
Early Spingsteen-ish in a way.
Something about this sounds like Neil Young, except the poetry is personal
I was only half listening when this started playing but near the end, with the lyrics, the music caught my attention. I listened to the whole thing with headphones on and for me, found it to be an amazing, but simple song. One that has a message that is easily forgotten. I forget all the time and I know my time if very limited; so I need to remember, "it's time to live".
..his voice reminds of Jakob Dylan (a good thing)..in fact, this sounds like a rich man's Wallflowers tune..8!..

Frist! Bwah - haven't pulled that in a while. Never really listened to the Eels before I came to RP. Good stuff!

Well put.....I agree 100%
Thanks for playing this one Bill! This is a perfect ending track for an amazing album. It's a great stand alone track, but as the ending track for Electro-Shock Blues it is outstanding. It ends an album filled with pain and loss on a great note of hope, and I highly suggested anyone interested in EELs to pick up Electro-Shock Blues for a great intro to the band!
Well put.....I agree 100%

It's rare I rate a song 9 upon hearing it for the first time, but with a first stanza like that, how could I not?
P. S. You are the milk on my toast.

"I was at a funeral" - yep, sounds like it, mate. A bit more zip in the voice might fit with the upbeat lyrics. A few more notes in the tune would add variety too. 3 from the somnolent Nottingham jury
I don't remember ever having heard this one. Very nice, and it doesn't suck that me 'n Z 'n The Mo are portrayed in the cover art.
After "Novacaine for the Soul," this is one of the first songs I heard from the Eels. Several albums later, I'm still on board.
Kinda reminds me of Modest Mouse (good music & quirky lyrics but still creative enough to follow).
Thanks for playing it.

Congratulations on being frist. Not sure what frist is, but congratulations nonetheless.
