Come on, come out
The weather is warm
Come on, come out
So, come on, come on
A spot in the shade
Where oranges fall
A spot in the shade
Away from it all
Watching the sky
You're watching a painting
Coming to life
Shifting and shaping
Staying inside
It all goes, all goes by
A blanket unfolds
A blanket to lie
The pieces of gold
They light up your eyes
And now we're alone
And now we're alive
Watching the sky
You're watching a painting
Coming to life
Shifting and shaping
Staying inside
It all goes, all goes
All goes, all goes by
Stopping the time
The rush and the waiting
Leave it behind
Shifting and shaping
Keep it inside
It all goes, all goes
All goes, all goes by
It all goes passing by
Yeah it all goes passing by
Come on
Come on, come out
Come on, come out
The weather is warm
Come on, come out
So, come on, come on
A spot in the shade
Where oranges fall

Really awesome early 2000s sound. It's reminiscent of that brief era of singer-songwriter pop music around 1999-2000 before that truckload of American Idol garbage took over pop music.
she is a treasure
I did not realize this is Queenie from Fantastic Beasts. Pretty interesting range of talent...
Sudol...that voice... (also Hannah Reid and Karin Bergquist) just melt me, something soul touching about them.
Reminds me of Whisper To A Scream
It's a more positive song, great to hear, when the days we're living in may not be so great (eg. Covid-19 etc.)
Thanks for having this in rotation Bill!

Nice!
Sounds strangely like Australia’s Missy Higgins?

I liked her in Fantastic Beasts. She has a pleasant voice but this music is too much like a TV show theme song to me.
This voice is instantly recognizable, although I think this is my first hearing of this song. Rangers is quite good, from my perspective. This is someone I should try and see when she passes through. In some respects the music does not stand out radically, but in other ways she brings something unique to the songs.
This is a lovely, lovely song.

Yes that's the one..

I have a different album cover for this CD, bought new in 2008.

Nice voice, nice arrangement, has potential. I am no longer rating songs right away, though. Stay tuned for my rating. I used to rate every song based on my first impression. I stopped doing that.

Lovely song. Play Rangers! That's a very nice one. Terrific vocals on all her tunes.
I like Alison, and have known her a long time. I think she's developed a fine style and I enjoy her Tweets on Twitter, too!
When I heard this just now, I thought of Feist. Anyone else?

Yeah i agree, this whole album is very nice.

Too bright? I don't think that would be the first thought that would come to my mind, were I to (hypothetically) find myself in such a situation with her. As previously mentioned though, I don't think carpeting is quite as prevalent anymore. Quite a nice tune, by the way.

I don't think they have carpet anymore (it's pretty much down to the linoleum)

It's all the same.
I'm waiting for where the rabbits come in....

Please. This is overwrought overproduced music by a too pretty girl. Are we supposed to think that's it's alternative because her hair is unnaturally red? What is this doing on RP?
I agree. Only average looking to ugly people should be allowed to make good music.

Hmmmm... a musician with dyed hair... now that would be a first...
I love this girl and grabbed her cd on Rhapsody just yesterday. Not every song is a winner but most are.

I agree the album is heavily produced, but after seeing her in concert, I can tell you that her voice is real. She had a lot of power, and her ballads were strong and in tune even at the end of the set. I recommend seeing them in small clubs while you still can.
I like this version better than the album version. All good tho.

I don't think Bill is going for alternative. There is plenty of mainstream stuff here on RP. It's just not played to death.
I saw A Fine Frenzy perform last week in a packed theater in Minneapolis, a cozy venue well-suited to AFF's style of music, including this song. It was their first headlining tour but Alison Sudol had the composure and grace of a seasoned performer. The performance was excellent and I feel lucky to have seen an AFF show there because they will soon be playing only big rooms.

A Fine Frenzy performed this song on the David Letterman show last night. I liked the way the band played together and Alison was a real presence, even sitting at the piano. Apparently Letterman thought so too--I'm not a regular viewer--because he gushed over the performance and kissed her hand with a flourish.

I was enthusiastic about the album at first, having discovered AFF here at RP -- but though there are a few good songs (like this one) the album had next to no staying power for me. I can't even listen to it anymore. She's pretty and has a pretty voice, but it's all quite dull when you get past appearances.
I bought this CD. It's great!
A bit refreshing! Good sound for the mood I'm in.
She gets a 7 just for the hair and pure hottness.

Now play Come On, Come Over by Jaco Pastorius.
nice hair color!

Since you have the CD, you can go to the bonus section of the A Fine Frenzy Website and download a music video, video performances, and some demo versions of songs on One Cell in the Sea, which you need to have in your CD drive.
She certainly is! I recently purchased this CD and it's quite lovely from start to finish!
(And a good morning to you, my friend :)
I find this sound quite Keane. So I bought it. Busy but fresh sound on this track.

She is a most appealing artist. This song and four others are being shown on Comcast's On-demand digital videos, listed under Alison Sudol, her name. She plays acoustic piano accompanied by synths and drums played with brushes. Good music, delivered with earnestness and charm.

Strange. I was just going to say that something about the vibe of this song reminded me of Sigur Ros.
awful & irratating no matter what stream...
yeah, that really sounds bad...

This track sounds ringy & nasty - I have the album so, I know it isn't supposed to sound like this (listening on 192K MP3 stream.)
Ouch, I agree. The right channel is raspy.
Yeah, another corrupted song similar to yesterday. Doh, and yes.. IT BURNS!
Love the song. Love her voice... but I'm hearing some nastiness in the right channel. There's some sort of weird nasty digital distortion going on over there. Is that just me? Is that how it was mixed? If so, fire that engineer.
I'll have to see if it's on the next song.
--edit--
Seems like I'm not the only one. Do we need to get a new version uploaded?
MUTE BUTTON NOW! Ouch!
A little poppy, but still pretty good. 7
Ha! You are correct SIR!!!

From her website
"A Fine Frenzy is a blend of sounds and influences. Where there's Ella, Aretha and Louis, there's also Radiohead, Sigur Ros, Aqualung and Keane" HARP Magazine
A Fine Frenzy is the music of 22 year-old Alison Sudol.
Born in Seattle to dramatic-arts teacher parents, Alison moved to Los Angeles at the age five. With her newly single mother, Alison moved frequently around the city. She developed a strong love for the fantastic literary worlds of CS Lewis, EB White, Lewis Carroll and Charles Dickens, while becoming a passionate author in her own right.
Alison also immersed herself in classical music, Motown, Aretha Franklin, swing bands, Ella Fitzgerald, Elton John, Louis Armstrong, the Beatles, Technicolor movies and classic 1950's television.
After teaching herself to play piano, Alison increasingly invested her internal narratives into song form. She found solace in the melodic melancholia of new global British bands Aqualung, Radiohead, Coldplay and Keane, etc... She was also moved by the diatonic minimalism of Philip Glass and the transportive allure of Icelandic music (Bjork, Sigur Ros.) Inspired, Alison developed the sound of A Fine Frenzy - hypnotic piano arrangements under classic American melody fused into irresistible, atmospheric songs with the power to reach around the world.
nice & quite fetching to boot...
whoa. saucer of milk?

maybe it's supposed to be Firenze instead of Frenzy? Thanks to that color...
