I don't care for anything  by the Grateful Dead, but this rendition is very good.  Lyrics tell a good story, and the orchestration enhances the story's hillbilly setting.

I had to look that up. I figured Jerry and David Grisman certainly would of played it as they played a lot of Bluegrass together. I was blessed to see them once in Austin at a small venue, late 80's I'm guessing, I am sure they played it. (Awesome Show!)  But I found no recordings other than the GD.

This sounds like the same version that came out on 'Deadicated' in 1991 (!!)

Great cover. Emory Joesph carries the flavor of Jerry's song with the bluegrass sound but the Hammond organ and his great vocal makes it a very original addition to a great song.

Each to there own...I rather enjoy the pace of this. I like this a lot more than the dead version, tbh. And again, I never would have had the chance to say that if Bill hadn't put it on the playlist. Love RP.

I always think this is Nickel Creek when it starts, maybe it's the mandolin. And the voice is similar too, but Mr. Joseph's has more 'depth'.

When I see it's Emory Joseph covering The Dead, I understand why I like it so much. This is really wonderful.
