I'll try to keep myself open up to you
That's a promise that I made to love
When it was new
"Just like Jericho" I said
"Let these walls come tumbling down"
I said it like I finally found the way
To keep the good feelings alive
I said it like it was something to strive for
I'll try to keep myself open up to you
And approve your self expression
I need that, too
I need your confidence, baby
And the gift of your extra time
In turn I'll give you mine
Sweet darling, it's a rich exchange
It seems to me
It's a warm arrangement!
Anyone will tell you
Just how hard it is to make and keep a friend
Maybe they'll short sell you
Or maybe it's you
Judas, in the end
When you just can no longer pretend
That you're getting what you need
Or you're giving out anything for them to grow and feed on
I'll try to keep myself open up to you
It gets easier and easier to do
Just like Jericho
Let these walls come tumbling down now
Let them fall right on the ground
Let all these dogs go running free
The wild and the gentle dogs
Kenneled in me
That's a promise that I made to love
When it was new
"Just like Jericho" I said
"Let these walls come tumbling down"
I said it like I finally found the way

K.D. Lang.....1st time I ever heard her sing was 30 years ago plus sitting up late at night watching Johnny Carson, K.D. was the guest performer that night, have loved her singing ever since. Hymns of the 49th Parallel is her favorite album so far. What a gift she shares with us. I feel so blessed when I listen to her.
Ughhhh, Off.
Oh you bet. K.D. just has the voice. What a great version of Joni Mithchell's Jericho. Dig it. Hymnns of the 49th Parallel is definitely one of the very best albums I've heard in the past 10 years. Check out K.D.'s cover of Bird on a Wire, the entire album is a huge keeper. Thanks RP for playing a nice morning set, drinking my coffee, gettin ready for another day of earning my keep.
I love K.D. all on her own but this reminded me so much of Laura Nyro ....

Well, yeah, but it may be a bit of a one-sided affair. Then again—straight or gay, a little love goes a long way. She'd be flattered, tho' perhaps not, um, moved. What a voice, eh?

Meh. Jericho without Jaco on the bass is a snoozer...
SNOOOZE..........
simply beautiful from one of the best k.d. albums to date. my favorite on this one is "A Case of You."
Try it. You'll become intoxicated.

Flawless light in a darkening air
Alone...and shining there
Love will not elude you
Love is simple
I worship this tenacity
And the beautiful struggle we're in
Love will not elude us
Love is simple
Be sure to know that
All in love
Is ours
That love, as a philosophy
Is simple.
kdlang.
The last in my musical legends series.....well hopefully one day she will be.
I am just tickled pink how well this track has been received! ...
Well, not the overall rating, but the ENTHUSIASM of those who get it the same way I do!

A K. D. Lang song I can listen to through until the end... not bad, this one.

I like Joni's version better. The Miles of Aisles version is the best

I checked the artist list because I thought this was a Joni Mitchell song I was unfamiliar with. Turns out I was wrong.....and right.
This is one Mitchell song that will be forever remembered for Jaco's playing. Sorry, but this version just doesn't cut it for me.
FWIW, this track got 75% (16/8) on the LRC before it got added!

This is a cover of a Joni song, from Don Juan's Reckless Daughter.
I really disliked this version at first, probably because it sounded to me like an ersatz treatment of Joni's very distinctive jazz-vocal style. I'm comin' around on it, though...6
But it was debuted on the LIVE double-LP set MILES OF AISLES.

Very soothing on a hectic day.
lounge music?
I've loved Joni Mitchell from the beginning, she is an amazingly talented songwriter and singer, and K.D. has a wonderfully sweet voice that presents this fine song superbly!
Wow what a stunning cover of that song. Joni always sounded a bit strained on that one - but KD just glides through.
The French have a better name for what we call merely 'covers'. Instead they speak of singers who are 'un(e) interpreteur' and speak of singing someone else's songs as 'une interpretation'.
This entire album is lady k d's (as Stompin' Tom called her - though I suspect k d would be the first to tell you she ain't no 'lady' ;-)) incredible interpretation of some beloved canuck classics. You could put the whole thing in rotation on RP as far as I'm concerned - go Bill!

This is weird! I uploaded this track (from the ALs' living room at the Lexington meetup ), and had been wondering when Bill was going to get around to playing it, but, just now, as I was idly listening (while playing DOOM E4M9 on another PC), I thought it was Joni, too!
Sweet buttery Jesus...k.d. is amazing!
She has one of the most amazing voices, her early stuff was mostly country, could cover Patsy Cline , no small feat ,did a album Owen Bradley produced , her duo with Roy Orbison Cryin' was damn good, the woman can flat sing

With you doc. This isn't something I'm likely to play myself, but DAMN SHE CAN SING!
Has she ever done anything that's not spectacular? I'm not really a fan but you can't deny her exquisite talent. 8.

K.D. Lang has to be about the only female vocalist that has the ability and liquid voice to be able to cover Joni Mitchell. Awesome album, awesome version of an awesome song. When Joni first released this song, I didn't appreciate it nearly as much as I do now.

Changed rating from 8 to 9 as the song went on.

Isn't it k.d. not K.D.?
