Instead of feelin' bad, be glad
You've got somewhere to go
Instead of feelin' sad, be happy
You're not all alone
Instead of feeling low, get high
On everything that you love
Instead of wastin' time, feel good
'Bout what you're dreamin' of.
Instead of tryin' to win something you never understood
Just play the game you know, eventually you'll love her good
It's silly to pretend that you have something you don't own
Just let her be your woman and you'll be her man
Instead of feelin' broke, buck up
And get yourself in the black
Instead of losin' hope, touch up
The things that feel out of whack
Instead of bein' old, be young
Because you know you are
Instead of feelin' cold
Let sunshine into your heart
Instead of acting crazy chasin' things that make you mad
Keep you heart ahead, it'll lead you back to what you have
With every step you're closer to the place you need to be
It's up to you to let her love you sweetly
Instead of acting crazy chasin' things that make you mad
Keep you heart ahead, it'll lead you back to what you have
With every step you're closer to the place you need to be
It's up to you to let her love you sweetly
Instead of feelin' bad, be glad
You've got someone to love
Instead of feelin' sad, be happy
There's a God above
Instead of feelin' low, remember
You're never on your own
Instead of feelin' sad, be happy
That she's there at home
She's waitin' for you by the phone
So be glad that she's all your own
Instead of feelin' bad, get happy
Waitin' for you be the telephone
So get back home
You've got somewhere to go
Instead of feelin' sad, be happy
You're not all alone

And just a touch of pedal steel if I'm not mistaken. Tasty!
She's Parisienne, I wonder if she sings la Piaf? Love to hear that!

ahh, there's Billie singing - no, wait - damn - - the sound q is too good ...
(that was intended to be a compliment, Mrs. Peyroux!)

I also really dig her vocals and the entire band is in a groove too.

Such a perfect message for these very challenging days (ahem, I mean years) we've been in.

Always like me some Madelaine
This isn't her best ... try her version of Leonard's "Dance me to the end of love"
Interesting background .... singing on the streets of Paris = street cred

I like it. Has a laid back jazz feel.
Great voice, nice music. I'm actually happy that the world appreciates her talent and retro sound. Me? I'm already so retro at my age that I listen to RP to try and stay young and here the new stuff so RP plays Madeleine and othere retro stuff too much for my tastes. I didn't apprecaite Billy Holiday anyway. Oh, heck, sorry for being negative. Just please "don't play it again, Sam !"
Billie Holiday singing lyrics by a 6 year old.
Nice!
Feel like I woke up on an elevator. Sixty years ago!
ho-hum, indeed
What a segue....

agree. a bit too polished. i can already predict that we'll hear it in the next trendy romantic comedy movie.
Also get the Billie likeness (just lacks the . . . .I don't know . gruffness? (Is there such a word?)) But like very much all the same!!

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz... Sorry, what? I dozed off there. Don't know exactly why, but Madeleine does nothing for me. Not good, not bad, just dull. Though my opinion doesn't seem to be hurting her career any.

Great Comment! I'm sure your money is safe. I live in Canada, and even with the fairly eclectic music the CBC plays, I hadn't heard of her before Radio Paradise.
I love RP!!!
Five bucks says this wonderful woman isn't played on any radio stations within 200 miles of here — including the half-dozen college stations in that area.

Just saw her live at the Rocky Mountain Folks Fest...Awesome!!!!
It's times like these I wish I had veto power over the playlist.
Really great acoustic jazz - like Leon Redbone only feminine.
truly great voice...

Reminds me of Fiona Apple's Extraordinary Machine.
A double programme on BBC4 (TV) last night, the first was about her life and how she got to Paris and sung on the streets and trains right up to date, second part was her concert in Los Angeles.
It can be seen again on the BBC's iPlayer. Well worth a watch.

pretty much. I just about always give her songs a 7. Which is kind uninteresting but I always kind of like 'em
ch83575 said it well (below). As I move it down to a 6. Jack Johnson is a good comparison (one good note), plus her voice is sounding a little too much like a practiced impersonation.
