Well the moon is broken and the sky is cracked
Come on up to the house
The only things that you can see is all that you lack
Come on up to the house
All your crying don't do you no good
Come on up to the house
Come down off your cross we could use the wood
Come on up to the house
You got to come on up to the house
Come on up to the house
The world is not my home I'm just passing through
Come on up to the house
There's no light in the tunnel, no irons in the fire
Come on up to the house
And you're singin' lead soprano in the junk man's choir
Come on up to the house
Don't life seem nasty, brutish and short
Come on up to the house
Well the seas are stormy you can't find no port
Come on up to the house
Yeah, you got to come on up to the house
Come on up to the house
The world is not my home I'm just passing through
Come on up to the house
There's nothin' in the world that you can do
Come on up to the house
You've been whipped by the forces that are inside of you
Come on up to the house
Well you're high on top of the mountain of woe
Come on up to the house
And you know you should surrender but you can't let go
Come on up to the house
You got to come on up to the house
Come on up to the house
The world is not my home I'm just passing through
Come on up to the house
Yeah, you got to come on up to the house
Come on up to the house
The world is not my home I'm just passing through

This song is co-written by Waits and Kathleen Brennan for Tom Waits, on his 1999 album Mule Variations

Yeh...what awaits you up at that house? Is it this or this or maybe just a good old fashion house party!
Well, come on up and find out!

Are you suggesting that Autotune isn't used live?
"Autotune", perhaps. But, before judging view this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzapgZI5SEc&list=RDlKBN5ewEXdc&index=2 for strong live vocal performance. Not bad. Not autotune.

Any song that paraphrases Thomas Hobbes' Leviathan is worth at least a 7, no?
Sweet, but it lacks the depth and gravity of the original from Tom Waits. I also like the Blind Boys of Alabama version better than this. But I also like the diversity!

Ooooh… she is new to me. Made a note that I really like this song and her voice. I see someone commenting that Tom Waits wrote it. Not surprised..

Well it was written by Tom Waits - so it is bound to have some quirky lines that bring a smile to your face ;-)

Interesting mandolin solo by Jarosz. Different from the other mando gods out there.
Love her voice...it transcends bad music choices and formats (I tend to eschew the twang)
Love Tom Waits!

This song loses major points for mind-numbingly repetitive lyrics.
I am thinking she really wants you to come on up to the house...

Come on everyone, get yer whiskey jug out and play along...
This has a nice country blues quality. It reminds me somewhat of Elizabeth Cotten and Mississippi John Hurt.

You can generally spot it when there are subtle but noticeable pitch shifts in the singer's voice. I just re-listened to this (google for the song and you'll get a Lala.com link) and couldn't spot any auto tune. I'm no expert though.
Several posters complained about autotune. How can you tell? Seriously. I want to know.

I don't want to come near this house.
I've gotta do what??
No substitute for talent...

Me likey!
I find this song rather annoying and repetitive, but, like so often, after reading the comments, I see Sarah and her whole body of work-to-come in a different light
"Come down off the cross, we could use the wood" - great line
Her two songs on RP, this Tom Waits cover and "Shankill Butchers" by The Decemberists, are the only cover songs on the album. Her original songs are more flavored with Americana and more to my liking. I think she will become a presence in the alt/traditional country world...lots of talent as a musician, vocalist, and songwriter.

I never ever really need to hear this song again.
3 -> 2. Based purely on the excessive repetition. Too bad too, because I like her voice. I look forward to hearing something else from her though.
Good song, but isn't it a little too soon to cover it? It seems too fresh to me.
She went to Wimberley High School with my son — they just graduated May 09. you talk about a focused young woman. What an accomplishment for a 17 year old....my son and his friends are just wondering where they can skateboard.

Tom Waits should be paying her to cover this. It's great stuff. That mandolin really puts it over the finish line.
Unfortunately, I too detected a whiff of auto tune in the vocals so I subtracted two points. I vote we ban that piece of crap from anything not Britney Spears.

Wouldn't have thought this was a Waits tune, frankly.
I like this version, but I miss the sarcasm of the Waits version. Tom Waits writes some great tunes.

diggin it...
I liked that sly little reference. Now if she had only added a quote from Calvin...
