In April of 1993 I had a Stopover at Djibouti while traveling between Nairobi and Haargeisa (Somaliland). I spent a day there. It was soooooooo hot from 10:00 am into the evening, and the town was empty. Then, starting ~7pm the night markets started up and the place was crowded. Food vendors, other vendors, shoppers, eaters, it was amazing!
It kept up until after midnight then we all went to bed. Fantastic place.
Cool story. Thank You for sharing it.
RP never ceases to surprise! Lovely piece.
I Agree. I love the sound of the "oud". Thanx RP!
Explains why most Djibouti calls happen at night.
Well I got it!
Indeed, Djibouti by night is far more vibrant than Djibouti by day.

All music is "noise made on musical instruments".
Cannons going off are noise. Cannons going off at the finale of the 1812
Overture are not...

Maybe you haven't experienced much jazz. It can be an acquired taste. However, to me anyway, "Stopover" seems particularly accessible and beautiful. Like all art, what's enjoyable, touching, & beautiful is in the eyes and ears of the beholder. But "noise"? So negative - May I suggest an ENT
?
All music is "noise made on musical instruments".
It is also the silence between noise.
There has to be a soul and this is the soul and if you don't hear it be patient one they you will visit Djibuty too
Inspires me to stopover in Djibouti...
Have you been to Djibuty ?
(Opps! Just noticed the earlier post. Apparently I’m not alone.)
It conjures memories of tracks by the Paul Winter Consort back in the '70s and '80s.
Thanks for the heads up.
And Thanks goes to RP for playing artists most of us couldn't hear anywhere else.

Yes - I think it is outstanding music - the entire album.

It makes me think I probably should propose a little bit of Titi Robin, would be great to hear him on RP :)
From the comments it looks like this disk should be added to the wish list. I really enjoy this track so the risk seems slight.
Sublime.
Indeed! I hear that too.

You mean there's something good about Djibouti? (yes, been there).
Well Sayid, indeed!
Everybody in my hotel room loves this song...

I did the same (except for buying a set for my folks). This was the first time I'd heard Anouar's music, and agree it is sublime.
I bought this track on iTunes before it finished playing on RP. I should check out the rest of Anouar's music.
ended up downloadin' Anouar's complete Discography!
sublime!
i enjoyed it so much
i then bought the whole lot on cd
for my folks!

Yes, I'm enjoying this, and would love to hear some Oregon (and/or Ralph Towner) on RP!
Yes, it is.
Or for a fine glass of tea in the cold desert night, there by the fire.
May they actually get democracy, and then have good fortune getting it implemented.
I get a really nice Oregon feeling from this(Oregon the jazz band(no offence u Oregon guys))
I just looked it up. There's only one Oregon tune on the RP playlist. It's a good one. But it hasn't been played since 2007, and it didn't get a good response. Pity.

Thought of Paul Winter Consort right away. Very soothing. 8 for sure.
Bill, please play their other song, it's never been on. Would like to hear it.
Hi, Jade!
EDIT: The website is mostly in French, and there's no English translation option that I could find. Still, I love the music, so I'll trot out my French translation book and do my best...
Ah, but does it spread nicely on your morning toast? ;)
Me too!
