For that second chance
For a break that would make it okay
There's always some reason
To feel not good enough
And it's hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction
Oh beautiful release
Memory seeps from my veins
Let me be empty
Oh, and weightless and maybe
I'll find some peace tonight
In the arms of the angel
Fly away from here
From this dark cold hotel room
And the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage
Of your silent reverie
You're in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort here
So tired of the straight line
And everywhere you turn
There's vultures and thieves at your back
And the storm keeps on twisting
You keep on building the lie
That you make up for all that you lack
It don't make no difference
Escaping one last time
It's easier to believe in this sweet madness oh
This glorious sadness that brings me to my knees
In the arms of the angel
Fly away from here
From this dark cold hotel room
And the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage
Of your silent reverie
You're in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort here
You're in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort here
No matter if you dig the song or the genre, all these comments judging her singing technique clearly know not a shred about they actually trying to say. Her intonation, phrasing and the mixed voicing technique are simply impeccable. This also gives this song its unique strength that gets people in the audience excited. I feel sad for everyone who hears this and just hears "yodeling and morons". This is a special piece of music that gave countless people solace and hope in hard moments. Maybe it is high time to try and really listen instead of jumping to judgement or hatred where there's so much to explore and be stunned about. Kudos to Sarah for this gem. Still love it after all these years <3
This is one of the most emotive and dynamic deliveries of a song since humans discovered they could sing.
Any non-believers, have no concept of musicianship and musical talent.
I hope all those negative critics give as much money to RP, as the blowhard comments they make about song delivery....
Morons yelling out, zero enunciation and yodelly voice. Ugh.
Never been to a live concert, eh?
And, unclear on the concept of yodeling.
Sorry you're having a bad day.
TIL the song was written about another heroin overdose.
All these glottals stops are making me crazy
I'm not convinced that you actually know what a glottal stop is.
Crazy good

Hearing Sarah always takes me right back to the late 1980s and the Brass Taps pub (University of Guelph).
Sarah was touring her debut album, Touch, and before the show, she was sitting completely alone at the end of the bar looking a bit lost. I managed to summon a rare moment of absolute peak courage, walked over, and asked if I could buy her a beer. She, gorgeous, smiled and accepted.
We chatted for a brief, glorious minute...until my brain completely short-circuited. Realizing I was dangerously close to once-again angering my girlfriend who was waiting across the room, panic set in. I got completely flustered, muttered a goodbye, and basically fled the scene.
Decades later, she has multiple Grammys and Lilith Fair under her belt, and I'm still kicking myself for not just pulling up a stool. Still, not many people can say they bought a pint for a future Canadian music legend before the rest of the world found out who she was! Great memories.
