The times are tough now, just getting tougher
This old world is rough, it's just getting rougher
Cover me, come on baby, cover me
Well, I'm looking for a lover who will come on in and cover me
Promise me baby you won't let them find us
Hold me in your arms, let's let our love blind us
Cover me, shut the door and cover me
Well, I'm looking for a lover who will come on in and cover me
Outside's the rain, the driving snow
I can hear the wild wind blowing
Turn out the light, bolt the door
I ain't going out there no more
This whole world is out there just trying to score
I've seen enough, I don't want to see any more
Cover me, come on and cover me
I'm looking for a lover who will come on in and cover me
Looking for a lover who will come on in and cover me
Outside's the rain, the driving snow
I can hear the wild wind blowing
Turn out the light, bolt the door

Pop throwaway? Here's a self-indulgent rant that suggests otherwise:
Look, I wasn't a fan of this song or this whole album, for that matter, back when it was mega popular, but then again I was only 11 so what did I really know. My favorite bands at the time were AC/DC and The Police, but I digress. Looking back, Bruce's ubiquity during 84/85 was so overpowering perhaps the quality of all the songs on Born in the USA was missed by me because I didn't have the ears to appreciate each song as a well-crafted gem. I think his music hit me like a steamroller and I just couldn't stand back up to hear it properly. Whatever the reason, thankfully a good college friend was a Bruce devotee and his visceral love for The Boss encouraged me to listen with a fresh perspective. I'm glad I did because I learned how to look for what other people love about a piece of music before indulging my personal taste. By working inward in this way I think I enjoy more genres and artists than I would have otherwise. But
Come on people. Yes, you've heard this song before and like Bruce's voice, but this is a crap song in super obvious ways. Bruce has lots of great music out there, but this is not at all close, whether you like lyrics or music. So much on RP is SOOO much better, but this gets a higher rating than countless pieces of music that aren't just pop throwaways but beautiful pieces of music. Don't give in to the disease of "I like this because I've heard it before."

Condescend much?
You might be wrong about other people and their motivations. Maybe they rate it because it reminds them of a time and place. Maybe because they love all Bruce. Maybe because this song IS a great Springsteen track from a great album. Maybe any other reason not deserving of your derision.

"Far left views." Probably not all that accurate a statement. But I thought this was a radio station and not CNN.

Yeah...no.
Bruce's views are hardly "far" left. They're generally what the Democrats used to be in this country before Reagan and Clinton - basically working class/labor and middle class. Now the Dems are just corporate Republican Lite.
Not that long ago I would describe myself as a social liberal and fiscal conservative. This no longer applies.
Yeah...no.

I teeter back and forth on this one. Not a bad song but this album got played to death back in the day...
you just undid years of eighties recovery therapy in 30 seconds...

Everybody in my alien space craft loves this song, as well as this marvelous album...
This was a great concert in Tacoma, Washington, in 1984.
30 year old and still rockin'... Release date: June 4, 1984
I am decidedly not a Springsteen fan but this is one of the few that I really enjoy.
Rock n' roll it!
This one gets a 10 if only for Bruce's guitar solo--a neat piece of viscious economy. Yum.

One of the biggest selling albums of all time. And a great selection from this album.

that one ROCKS man, and I am not a major Bruce-fan, it is just a thumpin, squeelin' piece that is really cool (imho)

Okay, kinda noisy. Just heard Bill say "great guitar" so maybe it's just me not wanting to hear great guitar on a Sunday afternoon. Hmm.
1984 was a good year!
No my favorite - But the Boss is the Boss!!!
you just undid years of eighties recovery therapy in 30 seconds...
Haven't heard this one for years, thank you!
Yeah...no.
