When the sun goes down,
When the sun goes down you head inside
Because the lights don't work,
Nothing works but you don't mind

Here comes the night time

The missionaries tell us we will be left behind
Been left behind a thousand times, a thousand times
If you want to be righteous, if you want to be righteous
Get in line
Here comes the night time

Here comes the night time
Look out, here comes the night time
Now here comes the night
Here comes the night
Look out here comes the night time

They say heaven's a place, yeah heaven's a place
And they know where it is,
But you know where it is?
It's behind the gate, they won't let you in
When they hear the beat coming from the street the lock the door,
If there's no music up in heaven then what's it for?
When I hear the beat, my spirit's on like a live wire
A thousand horses running wild in a city on fire
It starts in your feet, then it goes to your head
And if you can feel it, then the rules are dead
And if you're the judge, then what is our crime?
Here comes the night time.

Now the preachers they talk
[?]
If you're looking for hell, just try looking inside

When you look in the sky, just try looking inside
God knows what you might find
Here comes the night time

Great band. Rating should be higher here. I guess many aren't giving it a chance.

I struggle with this issue quite a bit. I've abandoned the comments boards twice on account of it. I keep coming back though because I like RP so much.

There are folks (not many sadly) that will tell us they don't like a particular song or artist in as polite and respectful a way as is possible. That doesn't bother me. Even if it's a song or artist that means a lot to me (have to try a little harder here because it's too easy to take any insult to them personally).

There are folks that imply or explicitly state that anyone who likes something they don't like is an (any of many synonyms for) idiot. That's annoying. All that does though is expose their lack of maturity and understanding that not everybody likes the same stuff.

I get what you're saying. Me? I don't choose silence, but I do choose respect and fair play (even when my baser instincts argue against it) because, selfishly, that's the kind of world in which I'd like to live.

It's instructive to learn that not everyone loves a song I think is brilliant and that there are many folks that love a song I cannot stand. It's the difference between a theoretical respect for varying tastes and its practice.

The nerve of you being all respectful and logical.  What are you: a trouble-maker?

Great track, it's original .. so some people probably won't get it... or the West Indian undertones.
The facepalm on the cover says it all.
possibly the worst song of all time {#Sick}
I don't think they've distorted the sound enough.

I don't usually post negative comments, but this song is a special piece of crap.
They really are exceptional live - had me regain interest in this album.
I usually avoid trashing songs I don't like on RP. Maybe it's because of my great respect for Canada's musical heritage (Mitchell, Young, Lightfoot, McLauchlan, Cockburn, Our Lady Peace, Rush) that I feel compelled to say, that in my opinion, Arcade Fire is simply awful.

My apologies to any fans.

Nicely said.
I agree, it's been eye opening to see some people's reaction to a song I love or hate.

They at have a right to their opinion just like I do, hopefully we can all be kind in our comments or at least try to do so.

Have a great day RP land.

ah, I'm surprised to see people so divided, I thought this song would make most of us happy. I love it, this song has a light step thanks to the "tadadam tadadam da" but at the same time, the drums give rhythm and energy. For me, it's worth 8 :)

 ...well, almost, eh?

I think I know how you feel.
I recognize that this band is quite popular, among some thoughtful people, and there just HAS to be SOME reason for that. So, I've tried.
I think I *almost* liked one of their songs. Not quite, though.
So: no, I don't like Arcade Fire.

This band is to pop what malware is to the internet.
Here are the missing lyrics:

Now the preachers they talk
Up on the satellite
If you're looking for Hell, just try looking inside.

Interesting song. Win Butler was raised a Mormon and got an undergraduate degree in religious studies. He and the band appreciate Haitian culture and were bothered by the way missionaries were working there. They would retreat to their homes at night when the streets came alive with music and dancing. The missionaries felt it was demonic and wouldn't participate. Butler found the music and dance intoxicating and loved it. This song is his lecture to the missionaries and kind of lands some good hits.

WHY DOES THIS KEEP STRIPPING OUT THE HTML FORMATTING?!! Grrrr.
If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. I choose massive silence.

Music to play while inflating bicycle tires.

sorry Bill, can't hang with this one...{#Eyes}
Don't dislike the slow bits.  Can't bear the silly fast bits.

ps cleverly followed by Blondie, who did this properly.

I don't like it either, but then, the last album was always going to be difficult to follow up.

Produced would be a good start.
Logged in especially to down vote this. Really irritating. Lakeview comment is spot on.
When future civilizations are digging through our musical archives they are going to put Arcade Fire in the trash.
Can't stand Arcade Fire. I find it boring and repetitious. I'm sure proponents see their music as layered and complex. I find it staccato to the point of annoyance. Where Peter Gabriel knows how to layer, these guys seem to just add a bunch of crap.

This could end real soon and I wouldn't mind...
The synthesizer always makes me thing:  "Waaarm - LETHERETTE"  {#Cool}

Agree. A big yawn, except it's annoying and pretentious. I think they're reaching for content. Why they don't just play, you know, energetic music that's not shrill and thumpish. Calypso meets carnival creepiness.
I swear, the drummer must be animatronic.

I think that's part of the problem.
Don't really like this song but do like this line from the lyrics: "If there's no music in heaven, then what's it for?"

Like Arcade Fire, hate this. Is it on a loop? Seems to have been on for 20 minutes.

When a band tries to say something in its lyrics, it can be seen as insightful and deep, or pseudy and pretentious. It's all subjective.

I can't be doing with this track, and much of Arcade Fire's music grates on my ears, but I do appreciate their efforts to bring social commentary and understanding into their lyrics.

yes well but i don't listen to radio stations that play one demention...

Great band, amazing live, and the previous albums are very good but this is just shit.
NOISE. I was on mute while typing email, and the track was ending or I would have stabbed the Poor Song Dysfunction button.
the most overrated band of the decade? debate.

One thing I will say is that in popular Arcade Fire songs, there is always some interesting element, if even just a minor one. Like in this song, the screeching guitar run, or the beat slowdown. Their live shows always seem to have a sense of edgy drama. I find that these tend to makeup/coverup for the more boring elements, like the relatively low level of technical musicianship by professional standards. And Wins voice is getting to be a bit of a recøgnizable brand.

Never have so many members of a band play so much muted, boring music which is listened to by so many people!

Conclusion: this is the sad state of RnR in 2014!

Agreed. I like the simpler stripped down Arcade Fire. Sometimes bigger isn't better.

Great beat. Love this song.
Oooh, I wish I could see them on their Reflektor Tour. Have you seen the ticket prices??
Ho-Hum at best. :-(

Ok...gotta admit at this point - this album is not sticking with me. Disappointed overall.  A few good tracks nothing outstanding.  I do not feel a pull to return to it after my several active listens to it originally...bummer.  {#Rolleyes}
Hey it's Canadian, out funked the pants off everyone. Loved the release concert. Way ahead of there time and big ego is ok if you are good.
My favorite Arcade Fire song since......... ever
{#Eek} Disco is back
Ah well, it was always going to be an insurmountable task following up "The Suburbs" - clearly, they didn't manage it.
Aweful, God aweful.
This is the best song on the new album. Awesome baseline, cool caribbean rhythms. Artist St Vincent has brief review this song/album on Pitchfork
I'll go and make a cuppa
I have to admit the distorted vocals are unpleasant.

One of the most over rated bands I can think of...

And what's with the circus music?
Lost in their "ego" this band.

Gee, thanks.

Didn't it annoy that they also had to 'trendy up' a perfectly good word by spelling it with a 'K'.   Gee ...  how Kool is that.  Pretentious like the damn album.
Waited a long time for this new album only to be sorely disappointed.  At best there are three very good tracks.  From a double cd set and as someone pointed out, from a band of TEN people.  Out of the ten all you hear is the same lead on every track which eventually becomes annoying.  As Bill proves every day - there are a lot better bands out there.  Arcade Fire need to look back at how good they can be.
I am actually taking an active dislike to these people. No AF track is immune from an automatic PSD. Their song content may be intriguing, but overall they are overrated, sophomoric, pretentious, monotonous and f'in annoying. And I'm so downbeat outspoken about no other music here on RP. How about: Here Comes the No Arcade Fire Any Time  ?
oooo.... Trying Way Too Hard to be a Brilliant Arcade Fire Song. Unfortunate.
I love PSD

just not much here. Not compelling.

Vocals, insturments, lyrics...all sound muted. As if not much effort wne into this song. And the band is huge..10 people?

I think guys are way over rated, but that decribes 90% of the rock music in 2013.

Or more simply put....boring. A ten for this is hyperbole.
I don't care for this one much.  5  And this is the best off of their new one?

my favorite from the album - which I have listened to 3 times already today front to back!
Definitely hearing the LCD sound system influence here
Reggae--Steel Band--Lullaby--Techno-European--Merengue Russian Salad! {#Beat}
Heard them interviewed on NPR this a.m.  Based on the interview, was expecting something a little less 80's-like.
Interesting.

I like the album so far, though I think I may prefer The Suburbs by just a hair.
2 for 2 on very promising songs on my first listen.  High hopes for this album....TBD with more exposure.
This new AF is pretty good. the more I learn about them the weirder they seem.

oh yeah and
