Mongoloid, he was a mongoloid
Happier than you and me

Mongoloid, he was a mongoloid
And it determined what he could see

Mongoloid, he was a mongoloid
One chromosome too many

Mongoloid, he was a mongoloid
And it determined what he could see

And he wore a hat
And he had a job
And he brought home the bacon
So that no one knew

He was a mongoloid

Mongoloid, he was a mongoloid
His friends were unaware

Mongoloid, he was a mongoloid
Nobody even cared

Mongoloid, he was a mongoloid
One chromosome too many

Mongoloid, he was a mongoloid
And it determined what he could see

And he wore a hat
And he had a job
And he brought home the bacon
So that no one knew

He was a mongoloid

Mongoloid, he was a mongoloid
Happier than you and me

One chromosome too many

Mongoloid, he was a mongoloid

And he had a job
And he brought home the bacon

He was a mongoloid

When this came out, I had a friend in college from Akron. His dad worked at Goodyear and looked like the guy on the album cover!  He wore the same hat!

It is STILL on the current RP playlist, as of today!   Thanx RP!

I played this album in the car recently and my wife was horrified.  This may be offensive now but you can't erase art and history because societal standards change.  The song is over 40 years old.  It's still a catchy tune, but yes Mongoloid is probably not something we should be singing these days.

Ever seen 'Blazing Saddles'?

Better yet, let's not and say we didn't.
Well, it's about time! DEVO were brilliant conceptual artists. Check out the collaboration with the late great Bruce Conner the boys released as an accompanying video to this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGdxX5qzeW8
I don't much care for this but I have to give it a higher rating than it deserves just for being un-PC.

Still allowed indeed. 'cause it's satire. And good satire at that.
What a great song to rock out to!

Welp, my mom worked for a Geneticist in the 80's and that was a term they used then. Also, he called kids an FLK, funny looking kid, which meant that they had the looks of a physical abnormality, but in fact were normal. Still, not quite PC these days, much like 'R' word IMHO.

And, is that Tom Brady on the cover?!?

I miss Devo. Starting out as the American Kraftwerk, they defined a whole genre: woke (as the kids say today), political and hilarious all at the same time.

If you're a fan, checkout "Human Rocket" from their last album.

DEVO - They were visionary pioneers. Musically original, clever and humorous. They kicked ass live and were also prophets that have been proven correct (unfortunately).
Good to rehear Devi Love the RP mix
RP Rocks!

PS, is this song PC in this day and age? ah well, who cares.

that segue out of beck was so good that for a few seconds i thought it was a turn in 'sea change' i didn't remember
I love DEVO...thanks for playing this.  Remember, this was 1979!  So ahead of their time.  There are some very good documentaries on Youtube about DEVO.  Highly recommended.
I saw them bat clean-up at Lolapalooza in 98(?).  They played right after tool.  Maynard had the crowd in a bit of a lather, and then DEVO came on.  They were LOUD (much louder than tool) and almost frantically energetic.  The call 'Are we not men?' and response 'We are DEVO' from the crowd was one of those moments that is impossible to forget.
Hot potatoes!
Weird! Was just talking about this song yesterday.

We were watching a show set back in the late 50's and in it there were DS people in an institution so the not so PC  term came up.

"Dr. John Langdon Down, who discovered Down's syndrome in the 1860s, used “mongolism” and “mongoloid” to describe the syndrome as he stated that there were similar physical characteristics of people with Down's syndrome to people from Mongolia and Mongoloid race (those of Asian ethnicity)." - Wikipedia

Love being first second to comment.  Always one of my faves from the NYC clubs back in the day.  Totally non-PC.

Yes, they were a blast.  I saw them at The Bottom Line around 1978 - I had to use my friend's license (pre-photo days) to get in.
DEVO, everything has come true. Thanks for being ahead of the curve!
