Ugh, hearing this on RP for the second time in as many days (July 2024). Barely tolerable the first time. Some songs don't age well. Don't get it; so much other music out there that's rarely played.
Maybe it's you who hasn't aged well!

Ya mean they use to actually play creative, free flowing, trippy music back in the 1960s?
Ya mean they weren't following a formula?
Ya mean RnR use to allow for experimentation?
Wow.

I can't remember where I got my information but I believe that Balin plays the bass while Casady plays the rhythm guitar on this song. Casady really owns most of this LP.

That does not sound like Jack on bass for sure!
This song bears a lot of similarities to The End by The Doors, especially the drums and guitar. From what i can see, The End was first chronologically(not sure) - not that it matters
I have no idea why are you getting heat. It's a good observation and I thought of it too. Out of curiosity I want to know who inspired who.
Thanks RP!
That be some trippy stuff.
It do. And Gracie be one trippy lady.

In the Wikipedia band photograph Casady is the one not facing the camera.

That wouldn't surprise me. Jorma described Casady as a lead guitar player who plays bass.
Regardless of chronology, "The End" is infinitely better, IMO. Also, I think Donovan's version of this is better as well.
Much faster temp than "The End".
72 Lima Peru, in a small cafe, a couple of other gringos sat down with us, it came up in conversion if we had ever tripped, and yeah we had. Turns out they said they were the chemist for the Airplane and they had a Visene container with liquid of LSD and made us some blotter on the napkins on the table. Got to make it to Urambama, on the road there was the kid in the front that would let the driver know when one of the two back tires was over the edge. Made it there, stayed with a tienedo owner, turned us on to chica and let us sleep in his daughter's room that had her name spelled out in Pepsi caps in concrete. Next day we dropped, and made the climb, when we got to the ruins the stones were huge and pink. wasn't expecting that. Got to be at the summit of an Andean mountian in cowboy boots. On the way down we ran into local people on the way back to a festival that we had no idea that this was their special day. When we got back to the village we were going to get on the bus that runs one way each day and back the next. Was going to get on but they were loading an eldery Inca lady that had fallen off a bridge on her face so we wern't sure we could deal with it. But then a car pulled up with a couple of gringos they and said "need a ride"? It was a guy named Jack Frost and his lady, really. The reason for the post, you still out there?
Do you mean "chicha
'?

I'll bet if you had been there for this show, your perspective would be different.
for some reason I have returned to them
they really were wonderful
Pure nostalgia. But the drummer is supposed to set the time, not chase it.
supposed to? it was the sixties man...it was about doing what you weren't supposed to do

Wow.
The are plenty of musicians who "play creative, free flowing, trippy music" that is not formulaic and allows for experimentation; you just seem to be deliberately unaware of them.
So... was Grace implying that Jorma Kaukonen should have put more concentration into his guitar work or his giving head?
Bit repetitive Doug
(that's a good thing)

I believe I went through this once shortly before it closed. The thrill was definitely gone.
This JA track isn't too bad, even though I suspect it'll wind up noodling for too long.
LSD was not a hard drug. It wasn't expensive, it was not addicting, people didn't rob each other to procure it, etc. :^ /

As a 13 year old I spent 8 hours in there with my father and 6 younger siblings waiting for Mom's very-delayed flight from Ireland to arrive. We had driven up from Ohio to pick her up. Back in 1968 give or take a year.
Indeed.

Sorry, no! I must disagree! Donovan owns this song and it's one of his best.

He still can. Go check out a Hot Tuna show. He and Jack are incredible.
Going to have to find the LP tonight and go for a trip.
And a tip of the hat to Donovan too.
