I hear the rain on the rooftop
Crown and Coke on a table by my bed
I'm lying here like it's my grave
A bag of bones with a fire in my head
Oh, yes, I am
I tell you, "No", then I start to give in
You tear me down, then we do it all over again
And again
I'm down on my knees and I'm screamin'
I'm a fiend, and I'm beggin' you, please
If you don't love me, baby, just stop
Tell me, how can it be I'm still bleedin'?
I can't quit, I need help, set me free
Shook me up 'cause you know that I'll cry
Fly, then I fall every time that you call
I'm nothin' but your cannonball (cannonball)
When you was hungry
Girl, you came knockin' at my door, yeah
I fed you misery 'til you kept comin' on back
And comin' on back for more, mmm...
My heart was homeless
My lust, for vampires and whores
Still you kept comin' on back for more
C'mon, girl
I'm down on my knees and I'm screamin'
I'm a fiend, and I'm beggin' you, please
If you don't love me, baby, just stop (No, no, no...)
Tell me, how can it be I'm still bleedin'?
I can't quit, I need help, set me free
(I want to get outta here, I wanna go home)
Shook me up, oh whoa whoa...
Fly, then I fall every time that you call
I'm nothin' but your cannonball (Your cannonball)
I tell you, "No", then I start to give in (Let's do)
You tear me down, then we do it all over again
(Let's do it all over again, mmm...)

Would like to hear more of her songs. I like her voice.

Agree. And it wrecks your voice.
Vocal fry seems the thing these days. Not for my ears. Lets this piece down, I feel.

Pop Quiz: Who comes after ZZ Top in the Popular Music listings?
I second this motion! Please.

I really dislike this style of singing. I find it very contrived and pretentious.

I saw ZZ Ward open for Kaleo and she was a great! Had no idea who she was and she rocked. This song doesn't show off her fire although it's not bad. But listen to her album and see what you think ... pretty strong!
It has a similar sound in the music to it, that that one Prince song has.

Amy Winehouse a "novelty act"? That's just wrong

I get the comparison to Amy Winehouse, but in my opinion Amy was just a novelty act anyway. She used Sharon Jones' band The Daptones when Sharon Jones was the real singer. RIP Sharon.

The Dap Kings were a great choice, but credit Mark Ronson too. Amy wrote some stunning songs, and if you don't think she was a singer, you owe it to yourself to find some pre-heroin youtube videos. Might have been retro schtick, but it was her schtick, and acts like Postmodern Jukebox (and Adele) thank her for showing the way.

Perhaps, but there was very little new or 'non-derivative' about Amy Winehouse's music either - lyrically, much of it was though. She was essentially a "revival" or "retro" act, as this artist sounds. Though this woman's singing style is clearly influenced by Amy's, the music itself is pretty traditional R&B.
Winehouse much?
Hey, not complainin'... But it is just a tad derivative. Still, it hits the sweet spot. (RIP, Amy. Your influence continues...)

Ever hear of Anouk from Holland? Check it out. The resemblence is striking.

Am I the only one who has a serious problem listening to her vocal fry? Nails on a chalkboard. Such a shame, because the song is great.

Every time I hear this I think she's channeling Winehouse
Fantastic Negrito is... fantastic!

awesome!
For me, she gets better with each hearing... 7 > 8...
In the mood... a solid 10 tonight... probably a 9 most other times.

This girl is on FIRE!

Awesome!
Apparently, that's Fantastic Negrito on backing vocals.
She's playing around here but the show's a little too spendy. If they'd put her on the same night as Brian Setzer I'd go.
I liked her a lot when she first came on the music scene, but these days not so much. Too much of a muchness.
YES! Been listening to ZZ since 2013. Recently saw her live in a 400 person venue in Austin (with a VIP meet and greet). Great artist!
well then! she's pretty, has a great blues-hop sound to her, and BillG has a Bob Dylan tune (Everything is Broken) that fits nicely afterwards...and I like the play on words there....Cannonball to Everything is Broken (with ZZ Top's Just Got Paid to follow that up.)
I'm rating this at 7 for now....I like the recent Kaleo track a bit better and I'm glad to see that they play together. Long Live RP!!
