Watching the video that you sent me
The one where you’re showering with wet hair dripping
You know that I’m obsessed with your body,
But it’s the way you smile that does it for me

It’s so sweet knowing that you love me
Though we don’t need to say it to each other,
Sweet knowing that I love you & running my fingers through your hair
It’s so sweet

Watching the video where you’re lying in your red lingerie ten times nightly
You know I think your skin’s the perfect color,
But it’s always your eyes that pull me under

& I would gladly break it
I would gladly break my heart for you…

Imagine you are a fan of this band, and the band "Naked women", and the conversation goes to music taste. Then you  have to say without flinching : "I like naked women and cigarettes after sex"  I bet you won't be smoking any that night...

And that's before you bring "Butthole Surfers" into the conversation

Indeed! And his natural talking voice is actually quite deep, check out CAS's Tiny Desk concert where you can hear it in between songs.
If you're smoking after sex, you're doing it too fast.

Sorry :/
Never, ever has a song been so closely mirrored by its name. The sultry, soothing voice, with it's Selma Simpson rasp, is a reminder that musical gravel does in fact exist. Godlike.
My wonderful daughter introduced me to this band. Great to hear them on here. Basically, it's the Cowboy Junkies' kids.
That band name, 'Cigarettes After Sex', evokes so many visual/auditory memories.

Don't know about you all, but often wish we were back then... :-)

Yeah 7->8
Wait. That is a dude singing ?
I F word Love this song. So sweet That voice and guitar. But that break down of bass abs drums. So perfect
Bumped this up from a 7 to an 8. The guitar parts are so delicate as to be ethereal.
My hairdresser loves this band.. Just thought I'd let y'all know!!
Somewhat disconcerting to listen to when I'm not sure what/who I'm hearing.
Got the album after hearing this.  Love it. Shoe Gazer at its finest.
The song K is another personal fav.
first time hearing this, immediatly had a silver sun pickups vibe
which is a good thing!

you're not wrong.

And it will be impossible to know
if it was ever worth the breaking.
Their songs are all the same but I like them.

I get  what your saying, thought it was a woman

it's almost too female like. detracts now knowing its a man.

Agreed. Funny. How an androgynous voice comes across so beautifully!!

Once again, your mental incontinence deposits a turd in the middle of the table... Not sure what compels you to make yourself so repellent but hey, life choices and all that
It’s so sweet knowing that you love me
Though we don’t need to say it to each other,

Sums up my and I'm sure many long term relationships. The love is there even though it may not be expressed as often at it should.
I'm surprised by how much I like this song. Solid 7 maybe more.

I like this song, and I gotta say "sweet" and "red lingerie" don't pair that well. But then again, love and sex have a complicated relationship with one another in real life too.

Yeah, if it had been "black lingerie" this song would have changed to a 9.

Never was a band so aptly named.  Pure sleazy, silky, louche loveliness - yum!
And I would gladly break it
I would gladly break my heart for you…
This is just beautiful.
This has to be a top 10 band name

Makes me remember my ex.
So, that's a 9 for me...
The perfect androgynous voice.
tbh I liked them even more when I thought the singer was a woman with too much whiskey and cigarettes, lol. still, damn cool and dreamy.

Has a Chromatics feel about them.
I can easily get the cigarettes, it's the other part that I find so elusive.
And it doesn't work the other way around. (I smoked a cigarette....nothing)
Anyone else hear echoes of  'Vincent' by Don McLean?
"Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and gray
Look out on a summer's day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul"

I wish a could un-see the vocalist.
I'll just give you the punchline:

I don't know. I've never checked.

Pretty song, not unlike "Tears for Affairs", which is fine.
Oh, geez, this is a guy singing?
I'm feeling a real 'Crying Game' moment coming on.

Whether this singer is really singing with vocal fry or not, I hate that crap. Millennials and Gen Z  are going to damage their vocal chords so badly that we're going to have two generations of people who will sound like they're 90 at the age of 50.
 So?

 Laptopdog wrote:

It's not so much vocal fry as it is just not pushing enough breath through the vocal chords, giving that lazy, draggy effect.
But isn't that kind of the same thing?

This is really growing on me. Beautiful!
This is cool water on a burning beach.
Nice recording.  Thanks Bill for finding more cool music
I love this song! EVERY SINGLE PART OF IT! 🖤
I am obsessed with this song! 🖤

It isn't vocal fry - that is lead singer Greg Gonzalez. From an Independent article: "He speaks in a voice so deep it seems incompatible with the androgynous register on his songs that had many assuming Cigarettes After Sex had a female singer."

All that may be true, but it's still vocal fry

A little preparation while playing the right music might help if a lady is involved. Other preparations might help for other scenarios, including solo
Vocal porn.

Amorphous.

Somewhat likeable.
And that's OK

Next time, I recommend a strong cup of coffee before you record a song. You sound a little tired!
Camera Obscura?
