I have some pencils that are pretty opaque, but there's a waxy build-up so I had to use fixative between layers. They do bring out the relief more than acrylic paint does though.

Thanks again. Yeah, "India ink" not a term you hear much these days. I had been doodling from some old clip art I had found a while back when I was looking for urban night scenes for another project, and I came across those sketches.
