Tprompter = TrumpPrompter.

Seriously Kurt, Trump can't mumble a lunch order at a McDonald's drive-thru without staring unblinkingly at at teleprompters. When he's off those, he can't focus on an extemporaneous thought for more than about 30 seconds. His own team seems to agree (as apparently does FauxNews etc).  I watched her entire speech last night. Every public speaker at that level has teleprompters up. It didn't look to me like she barely glanced at them, if at all.  She owned that room & didn't miss a beat.  She's a decade or two away from cognitive decline.

Meanwhile, 78-year-old Trump has been running for emperor for the past four years. She's had a month, during which time she's had to pull together a team, get out on the trail, pick her VP, prepare for the convention, and plan her entire campaign, which is about 70 some-odd days away from the election. She's committed to formal sit-downs with the media in the next week or so, and she's already prepping for the September 10th debate.  She's basically cramming 6-9 months of running a campaign into month & change. From where I sit she's doing just fine.  Cool your jets, man, she'll give you plenty of ammunition along the way.

Do read on.  An informed voter is a good voter.  We have no policy statements from Harris, so far only deniable (in the future, we know how that works) statements by surrogates.  So her past statements on video and on the record are what should be applied to interpret the future Harris Administration, at least until she puts out formal statements and answers questions in a press conference.  There is no pandemic excuse to hide out in the basement this time.

The same people who lied to you all about Biden's compos mentis for years and up until 2 months ago saying that Harris should be dumped from the ticket because she is essentially brain dead, now are telling you all that she is the sharpest tool in the shed an the best new thing since sliced bread.  Huh ?  The party / legacy media are playing to fools.  Seems to be that they are the majority.  Sheeple, plain and simple is all the democratic party sees in their rank and file.

The primary goal of any cult is to destroy trust in everything else.  It's worked wonders on you.

There are lies and exaggerations in every political speech.  When you look at Trump vs. Harris, 3 key differences are obvious:

1. Scale of inaccuracy: Kamala's claims involve exaggeration or lack of full context, while Trump's claims are outright false.  Tax cuts over 10 years are still tax cuts, and the SCOTUS handed down an insanely illogical interpretation of "presidential activities", primarily to ensure Trump wouldn't go on trial before November.  Trump did not have the election stolen.  He did not win.  There were no irregularities.  He will be on trial for attempting to overturn the results of a free and fair election.

2. Nature of claims: Kamala's inaccuracies relate to policy impacts and legal interpretations, while Trump's focus more on unfounded conspiracy theories.

3. Frequency: Trump made more frequent false or misleading statements during his speech compared to Harris.

Here are the Politifact lies grouped by their fact-check grades:

False:
1. Immigrants from prisons and mental institutions
2. Venezuela crime down 72%
3. El Salvador sending murderers to US
4. Best economy in history, no inflation
5. Biden raising taxes four times
6. Democrats destroying Social Security and Medicare
7. $9 billion spent on eight EV chargers
8. Electric vehicle mandate
9. Left $85 billion equipment in Afghanistan

Mostly False:
1. Lowest illegal immigration in recorded history
2. 107% of new jobs taken by illegal aliens
3. Groceries up 57%, gas up 60-70%
4. Crime rate going up
5. IRS hired 88,000 agents

Half True:
1. Energy independent under Trump
2. Iran was broke

Pants on Fire:
1. COVID used to cheat in election

Unsubstantiated:
1. Wars wouldn't have happened if Trump president

As for policy details... what exactly has Trump promised?  Mass deportations?  Tariffs?  Giving Ukraine to Putin and leaving NATO?

Should we bother to talk about the insanity of the "Truths" last night during the speech?  Donnie is losing is mind right now.  His stupidity is turning a close race into a landslide if he's not careful.  Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina... all in play now because he's going off the deep end.

Ah, the distaff version of the Great Communicator.  Right.  Get her off a Tprompter and speak extemporaneously and we''ll she how well she does.  How about an actual press conference that lasts an hour or two and see what we get.  As POTUS, she would have to do that.

I know its anathema to fact check a Democrat but here's how Harris' acceptance speech failed to pass muster and tell bold faced lies.  Lies that are already accepted wholesale here.
.
Fact-checking Day 4 of the Democratic National Convention

.
The Democratic convention wrapped up with Vice President Kamala Harris’ speech accepting the party’s nomination for president. She made some misleading or unsupported claims about her opponent, including several FactCheck.org has heard this week.

  • Harris claimed former President Donald Trump “intends to enact what in effect is a national sales tax” that would “raise prices on middle-class families by almost $4,000 a year.” That’s a speculative estimate from a liberal think tank based on the upper-end of a Trump-proposed tariff on imported goods. And it ignores other Trump proposals that might lower middle-income taxes.
  • Harris misleadingly claimed that Trump will give billionaires “another round of tax breaks that will add up to $5 trillion to the national debt.” That’s the estimated 10-year cost of extending all the tax cuts in Trump’s 2017 tax law, but those tax changes benefited people of all income groups.
  • In warning about the dangers of a Trump presidency, Harris said the U.S. Supreme Court “ruled that he would be immune from criminal prosecution.” The ruling said a president is entitled to a “presumption of immunity” for “official acts,” but not for “unofficial acts” and “not everything the President does is official.”
  • She said part of Trump’s “agenda” is to “limit access to birth control.” Project 2025, a conservative plan published by the Heritage Foundation, calls for ending mandatory health insurance coverage of emergency contraception, but Trump has said he opposes placing limits on birth control.
  • Harris said Trump and his allies would “ban medication abortion and enact a nationwide abortion ban, with or without Congress.” However, Trump has said this year that he would not sign a national abortion ban and has suggested he would maintain the status quo on medication abortion.
  • The vice president claimed Trump plans to “force states to report on women’s miscarriages and abortions.” Project 2025 proposes making such reporting mandatory, but Trump has said it should be up to individual states.
  • Harris and other speakers said Trump “encouraged Putin to invade” a NATO country. In context, Trump said he told a NATO member that he “would encourage them [Russia] to do whatever the hell they want” unless the country dedicated more money to defense spending.
  • Continuing a theme for the week, Sen. Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin made the unsupported claim that Trump would cut Social Security and Medicare, pointing to a quote that his campaign says referred to cutting waste and fraud, not benefits.
  • Harris also misleadingly claimed that Trump had “tried to cut Social Security and Medicare.” Trump’s budgets when he was president didn’t propose cuts to Social Security’s retirement benefits, and they included bipartisan proposals to reduce the growth of Medicare without cutting benefits. He did propose cuts for Social Security disability and supplemental income programs.

My first Presidential vote was for Reagan.  Alex P Keaton was a role model.  I wore Izod shirts with the collar up, and penny loafers without socks to the Catholic high school I attended.  We watched Reagan crush Mondale with glee in a dorm room (he can have Minnesota...).

I identified as a Republican until Trump became the nominee in 2016.  I did not like the Clintons one ounce... but have seen Trump's scams far too long to support him.  It's been worse than I even imagined.

Kamala Harris's DNC nomination acceptance speech felt more like Reagan than anything from the Right, especially when you consider the convention speeches of Harris vs Trump.

Kamala kept her acceptance speech pretty short—only about 38 minutes.  This is how Ronald Reagan used to keep his speeches concise and to the point. On the flip side, Donald Trump’s RNC speech went on for a whopping 92 minutes, which is pretty typical for him since he loves to whine.

Harris had a solid structure to her speech, moving smoothly through her background, values, and what she hopes to achieve. It felt very organized, just like Reagan’s speeches, which were known for their clarity. Trump is all over the place, jumping from topic to topic without a plan.

Kamala aimed to project a hopeful vision for America, focusing on unity and optimism—very Reagan-esque! She talked about supporting the middle class and addressing everyday issues. In contrast, Trump’s speeches are a stream of complaints and threats.

She shared personal stories from her life. This was a Reagan superpower, making his speeches relatable. Trump does share personal anecdotes too, but they tend to focus more on his own "greatness" rather than connecting with everyday experiences.

The overall vibe of her speech was serious and dignified, dare I say presidential. This is similar to how Reagan carried himself in his speeches. Trump, on the other hand, is theatrical and bombastic... like the world has never seen before.

When it came to policy, she struck a balance between critiquing her opponents and laying out her vision. This is similar to Reagan’s approach of clearly stating his policies while also pointing out what he disagreed with. Trump’s speeches focus on attacking his rivals rather than diving deep into policy details.  His plans are always a few weeks away.

Harris’s speech last night felt a lot more like Reagan—short, organized, and optimistic— things the Republican party left on the escalator 9 years ago.

Since losing the Izod shirts and penny loafers, I've changed.  I care more about the opportunities that others have, and about providing a basic level of support for everyone (kids did that).  I'm still a fiscal conservative.  I think the debt is an enormous problem...but so is climate change (financially as well).  Today's Democratic party just feels more like the Republican party of the 80s and 90s than today's MAGA incarnation.  I didn't like Harris in 2020, and didn't think she was the best choice when Biden stepped down... but she's a hell of a lot more Presidential than Trump.
