If you think that crazy medical word is long, try pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosistry, which means inhaling dust that causes lung inflammation...

for Scrabble, I would go with ENT...

My husband is debilitated by his allergies.  It's amazing... the endless sneezing and running nose and burning eyes... then his eyeballs swell...  damn it's bizarre.

There was a time that I thought allergies were largely psychosomatic.  Boy was I dumb.

Hubby's had bad allergies since he was very small and missed a ton of school, even with regular allergy shots.  I have a ton of empathy now.

But a lot of people here do not develop an allergic reaction to the worst culprits until they've been here a few years. We get cedar, then oak, then pecan pollens, in predictable fashion at specific times. Some of the old timers get it the worst, while newcomers don't seem to have any problem.

If it gets really bad for me, so bad I feel sick and the antihistamines just ain't cutting' it anymore, I go to the doc-in-the-box and get a shot of hydrocortisone. It starts to work almost immediately, and lasts a couple weeks or more, long enough to get through the worse of the pollen production. Sure it's a steroid and can have side effects, but one shot, once a year (or less)? I've got more important things to worry about.

I don't think allergies are amenable to generalizations. People who've never been affected, sometimes develop debilitating seasonal allergies. If it's a matter of acclimation, it is a NEGATIVE effect.

A spoonful of honey and cinnamon, now and then, can ease symptoms without taking away the immune system's ability to right itself.

I think there has been a lot more oak, etc. pollen the last couple years. After the brutal 2009-2010 winter, nature has to provide food to allow the mammal and ornithological populations to rebuild after the kill off.

I never had a problem with allergies until recently, of course it could just be my overall decrepitude.

My poor hubby is so outrageously miserable again — worse than I've ever seen him.  I honestly don't know how he can stand it...  I guess he doesn't really have a choice.

Just have a special towel that you use to wipe the walls and the shower curtain— you don't have to get them completely dry— just mostly dry...  then hang the towel somewhere where it can dry out quickly— don't leave it in the bathroom...  hang it in the laundry room, or even out on the back porch in the sun, etc...  that's what we do...

good luck with it...

I'm thinking the bathroom mold was it. After washing the curtain, bathmat(which I hate and only have in there for my dad) and scrubbing the walls 3 times yesterday and aiming a fan in there, today was the first day in months I haven't had a sinus drainage issue in the morning that is too gross to describe in detail. {#Dancingbanana_2}

This really works! ! Not that I had any doubts, but geez, I coulda saved a lot of money the last few years. I even threw the rubber bathmat in there and it looks like new.
 Unfortunately this means I have to scrub the tub and walls. I also need to do a little caulking. Fortunately I don't have any caulk so I can put that off. . {#Lol}

Amazed was when I realized last month that my washer's  output pump  wasn't broken and that I was  having a reverse siphon effect due to the fact that the dual sink it drains into had a clog between sink 1 & 2(uphill  pump behind sink #2). The  crappy soap water was draining back into the  washer onto the clothes. Once I fixed that, I ran a few loads of bleach through to clean up the disgustingness and it worked well.

 Cheap disinfectants. {#Yes}
