Alive but the war is here to stay
So my love caterina and me
Decide to take our last walk
Through the noise to the sea
Not to die but to be re-born
Away from a life so battered and torn....
Forever...
Oh say can you see it's really such a mess
Every inch of earth is a fighting nest
Giant pencil and lip-stick tube shaped things
Continue to rain and cause screaming pain
And the arctic stains
From silver blue to bloody red
As our feet find the sand
And the sea is straight ahead..
Straight ahead.....
Well its too bad
That our friends
Cant be with us today
Well thats too bad
"The machine
That we built
Would never save us"
That's what they say
(That's why they aint coming with us today)
And they also said
"It's impossible for man
To live and breath underwater..
Forever" was their main complaint
(Yeah)
And they also threw this in my face:
They said
Anyway
You know good well
It would be beyond the will of God
And the grade of the King
(Grace of the King yeah yeah)
So my darling and I
Make love in the sand
To salute the last moment
Ever on dry land
Our machine has done its work
Played its part well
Without a scratch on our bodies
And we bid it farewell
Starfish and giant foams
Greet us with a smile
Before our heads go under
We take a last look
At the killing noise
Of the out of style...
The out of style, out of style
'...It's too bad, that our friends,
can't be with us today'
.
As true to me today as it was all those yesterdays ago (when 1983 was still in the future....)
The original track is over 13 minutes long and a masterpiece. Please Bill don't cut it when it starts to really get pyschedelic!
God
...and Jimi wondering what the hell we're all doing down here!
Nice catch MTachyon.
IRON BUTTERFLY - IN A GADDA DA VIDA
Rush — Limelight, Neil Peart

Jimi Hendrix — 1983.. (A Merman I Should, Mitch Mitchell
Nice catch MTachyon.
...there is also a version of this song by Christian Death, that I love too...
Scott -- attacker of icons.
OK, not the best but .... ..... .... please cut the nostalgia crew some slack.
Everybody in my mushrooming multitude of churches loves this song...

One man's floor ...
My one and only "11".
It is not "Godlike." It is, indeed, voiced directly from the Gods.
— (Although I think is a sin that RP cuts when Jimi starts channeling the Gods!)
or and on LSD ;-)

Epic song...
A GREAT Snopes article on what really went down when Hendrix opened for the Monkees. I never really got into Hendrix's music, but my Aunt Janet fell into his lap one evening in Arizona...
I agree about the album but, although this song is definitely one of my 4 or 5 favorites, both Voodoo Chile's always blow me away everytime in a more visceral way than this one does, much as I love it. And give me the 13-minute version every time!
Humming into a comb with wax paper sounds almost like humming into a kazoo, but the latter instrument has a tube with a lateral orifice over which a vibrating membrane is attached.

I thought everybody knew that. It's called a kazoo.
Read the article, not just the status. Hendrix DID open for the Monkees. He just wasn't dropped for the reason the false rumor stated. Very cool bit of story there, and some great quotes!
upload it here.
You are correct. We got the AM Radio version today

Wow! What year?
late in 1968 I think I was in grade 10.
Technically better than Jimi? Probably Steve Hacket, Steve Howe, John McLaughlin, Paco DeLucia (SP?) and a few other Jazz guys. But who cares? Technique is only part of the equation, and these pissing contests always miss the point that you are comparing apples to oranges every time. I bet every one of the guitarists I mentioned would laugh if anyone told them they were "technically better" than Jimi. Jimi wasn't after technique, he was after music. And man that guy could play!

Thank you Jimi!

You should have told that person that Ted Nugent is a redneck troglodyte, and wouldn't have made a pimple on Hendrix' ass.
I disagree; he would have.

How are you, Jimi...?
We miss you so-so-so-so terribly much!
No doubt, someone told me yesterday Nugent would have smoked Hendrix, I said Jimi didn't live long enough to begin to achieve his potential. What a shame.

Uh..........no way.

Ted Nugent? I can see some arguements about technical superiority but as a guitarist Nugent is a B- at best. Not a comment on his music or musical tastes, but his guitar playing is nothing special.
Jimi, on the other handtruly transcended the instrument. And that is the ture hallmark of a master.
Ted Nugent.... Hahahaahaa
Yeah, me too.
but hey, I think this works best if you play the whole of side C consecutively!
This is like a lot of foreplay... and then some other thing altogether!
I strongly agree!

Ted Nugent is a chickenhawk that was so cowardly he went to his draft appointment in pants that he had purposely soiled to avoid having to serve. I have tried to imagine how one could be that hypocritical, but just can't picture it.
He has some minor talent with the guitar, but many, many people, live and dead, are better, including Jimi. Let him stick to shooting things that can't shoot back.
/I hunt, BTW, but never kill for trophies or sport.
Other guitarists were and are technically better, but nobody played with more passion and soul.
