Oh well the sun go down
Celebration in the town tonight
All day long they been slaughtering upon the stone.
Share out the meat
Yeah you really like to eat,
Come on, woman, come, follow me home.

Oh well the priest, he cried
'Virgin ascending to the skies tonight'
All day long I've passed my time alone.
When the church bell rung
Stayed out on the tower in the dying sun
Now come on, woman, come, follow me home.

Well I don't need no priest
But I love all of the people
Yes, I share the feast
So drink up more wine, yes, and a song in my bones
I know the way
I can see by the moonlight, clear as the day,
Now, come on, woman, come, follow me home.

looking back all these yeas - still brilliant.
Seems this band can do no wrong. Smooth.
I am listening to my favourite channel for the first time, and it's working! How awesome and fantastic! Follow me home is the first track in my long list of more than 2300 songs with 7+ ratings. Thank you for making this possible William and Alanna!
For me, its the solid bass line, with the "muscality" on top.
That lead guitar just  floating along... this is (IMO) a great piece of music.

Did Bill just say this was the last track on Brothers in Arms?

You may not. Not your choice, anyway.
Three fo four?
back working in the office, with RP on the headphones and this opening is just heaven.....

Hm? Did Bill just say this song finishes off "Brothers in Arms"?

I believe he did indeed.   I was like whoa, is there a version of that album running around that I don't know of?
I would never contradict Bill but I could swear he just said this is the last song on Brothers in Arms?

One of my great memories is seeing them play in Hobart on that same tour.  But I'd still love a time machine to see them play again.

Right Church, Wrong pew as they say....Still DIRE STRAITS

Dylan and Dire Straits....when you go back, its like hearing them for the first time again and you feel youve been unfaithful!

Yup 1978 first heard Sultans of Swing, privileged to see them live at Cardiff Arms Park around 1991.
Excellent song 👍
Must dust this album off and listen again..

LOL - yes, I'm quite picky :-)
Kinda sounds like a slow version of Coyote.
Not that that's a bad thing

Hey.  I just heard the same segue, one year later.  Thought the same.

Actually it can if you play one Leonard Cohen right after that :)

Close.  Just heard Leonard followed by The Beatles, then here.

Even more perplexing is that I also have been listening to them for forty years and never saw them live.  I rectified that egregious error last October.  The most I ever paid for a ticket; well worth it.  I could not take the smile off my face, and many times felt shrill energy up my back.  Mark is the best.

Leonard Cohen    music to commit suicide by
YUM, so groovy
Picked this album up at the ol' record shop just for the track Single Handed Sailor - which precedes this. What a delightful surprise this track was. Chill vibes to my fellow RP junkies.

Don't worry about using it; that word appears far too often in the song comments anyhow.

Haven't heard this in a long time! What a great tune! Love that big fat lazy groove. Thanks for playing.

Agreed. Love tracks like this, where the groove takes time to develops.
Rarely does the same artist get played here back-to-back, and I get it that we are on a nautical theme.  Still, Mark Knopfler is the finest musician representing rock and roll in the present. Getting older at 64, veteran of many, many concerts, appreciative of many genres of music, I am cognizant over time of the zenith point Knopfler has risen to.
All these years I thought the lyric was "All day long they been slaughtering upon a stoat".  Then I'd wonder, given the small size of a stoat, why would it take all day?  This is what can happen when you're too lazy to look up the lyrics.

I never heard this song until just now. I used to grumble as a kid about Dire Straits not playing harder stuff but as you get older you appreciate subtlety, restraint, intimation and the space between the notes. How 'bout that Knopfler!

I'm envious of your glass-is-half-full attitude... I immedaitely worried that we'd lost someone from the band...

PS - today, the next song is Devics — Siren Song, which sounds a lot like Mr. Cohen.

Landed here after clicking PSD from another song....  Not familiar with this track -- nice!  Gets an 8 outta the gate.

I just love the sound of the sea at the start and end of these tracks - so beautiful, so restful, and great at setting the scene for the songs. Elegaic. 8 from the Zenned-out Nottingham jury.

The funny thing about Dire Straits, is their lesser know non 'hits' are by far the best example of their work.

The big hits now sound terribly dated and have been played to death, whilst the lesser know stuff is great.

Nice one Bill!
Like this :)

I lean toward bb_matt's comment below, from the comments for "Single Handed Sailor." My guess is that Knopfler felt pressured to put out arena rock songs for Love Over Gold and Brothers in Arms. Both albums have great songs, but overall the earlier albums are more intimate and jazzier....

Bill and Rebecca--any chance, any chance at all that you'll implement threaded conversations in the song comments sections?
Crickets are a nice touch.
Excellent2.

How fantastic this one get's played after Single Handed Sailor. The most perfect blending of two songs on an album i ever heard, so thanks for making it so!

That and for the song:

An under appreciated album.  "Making Movies" is also under appreciated. Guess when one starts out good, the further efforts that are merely "good" go unnoticed.  One must then be "great" every time... Besides being impossible to pu out an album of only great" music...That would then become the standard... How easily we become bored and complacent...

After hearing Single Handed Sailor, I was going to play this. Thanks for doing it for me!..The two songs belong together!

First time in my decade or more of listening to RP that Bill has played two tracks back to back from the same artist, even the same album. What is going on, has the election gotten to him?
very nice!
Who doesn't like this album...I can't imagine anyone not loving this album...seriously..
Probably my favourite Dire Straits album. Great idea doubling up on the songs! Noticed it earlier with LZ and XTC.
Hearing the last track made me yearn for more DS. Now Bill has done it for me!  Thanks RP{#Yes}{#Clap}{#Notworthy}

Yes I can hear it here in the UK ... they both have this laid back approach to their playing.

Two-in-a-row Led Zep, then two-in-a-row Dire Straights today...it must be twofer—um—Monday!
I love it!
I've had this good "thing" about any decent number with nature sounds ever since Martin Denny's exotic Tiki arrangements were popular a while back. Quite a while, actually.
Like the mariner theme Bill. How about Sting's "The Wild WIld Sea" from Soul Cages?
Anyone hear a huge JJ Cale groove going on?
I need more coffee...
Never heard this — nice one
nice two-fer
Two of the best Dire Straights songs back to back!  Thanks and keep 'em coming.

Two for one Wednesday? or is Bill slow taking the needle of the album? Either way it's OK with me.
