You told yourself
"I'd write a letter today"
Tell the world that you would hurt yourself
Can't look in mirror much less anyone else

You try to move on from here
But you look like a ghost alive
You can't think always running in place
A lost soul that won't show his face

But I know you're just someone who's feeling all alone
You're just someone who doesn't seem to know which way to turn
If you just ask for help, if you just ask for help
First thing I'll say is you gotta love yourself

Find it hard to take
Hard to take even the best of praise
A pair of hands that became too tough
A growing armor for whatever they might touch

But I know you're just someone who's feeling all alone
You're just someone who doesn't seem to know which way to turn
If you just ask for help, if you just ask for help
First thing I'll say is you gotta love yourself

But I know you're just someone who's feeling all alone
You're just someone who doesn't seem to know which way to turn
If you just ask for help, if you just ask for help
First thing I'll say is you gotta love yourself
You gotta love yourself, you gotta love yourself

I wished my wife would go the same way. This song seems to be about her.

My wife just told me she likes this song. That’s an automatic 9.
This song feels like such a classic. I always do a double-take when I look at the year it was released.

Love this song but it can really hit hard in rough times... Also, I hear "You're just an Ol' Woman...." which hits harder. It doesn't "Get Better" if one is actually, truly, genetically and/or situationally afflicted with debilitating depression. Realising All is Transient is a Truth tough to Exist with.

I heard it "moron" as well. Lol - glad I took a look at the lyrics!

It was written to support a mental health organization that deals with depression and suicide, CALM.  It's just lovely.

Totally agree with you - an excellent traveling song...

A similar experience:  about 30 years ago, I was driving solo from El Paso, TX to White City, NM. It was a cool early morning, about 1-2 am, with a full moon, and the song "Texas" by Chris Rea came on the radio.

-- Perfect.
Excellent for the road! LLRP!
I tend to think that referring to someone as a moron tends to discount whatever the message might be. I cannot hear this song any other way
Most excellent

Now it throws up a "not here" message from Amazon, better but still no cigar...or CD.

C'mon, creep faster!

Seriously, this song resonates so strongly with me I'm surprised it's taken me so long to rate it "Godlike."

I heard that forever and seriously thought the song was about the dude in the White House at the time 😂
8 to 9 just for filling me with that feeling I get when a song I really love singing along with comes on… I love the vocal melodies…

As RuPaul says, "If you can't love yourself, how in the Hell can you love someone else? Can I get an Amen?!"
Bill, please replace this radio edited song for the original. I love the full guitar solo and feel that cutting it short lessens the impact of this beautiful song. I understand why the band would release a commercial radio version, but here on RP I expect to hear the full version.

I came on here for the very same reason!
This whole album from start to finish is a fantastic set of songs about the grief of breaking up to coming back to life again and all the stages in between. Each song so poignant on each stage of grief. Highly recommended for a listen.
8 --==>> 9.

This song is resonating so strongly with me these days.

bad advice - would not work for someone with this kind of trauma.
yeah, this song would resonate better if I didn't also hear "You're just a moron...".

Oh wow. I was at that show. In fact, I saw the seizure. :-(

Kudos for them for continuing on, and they made the best of it. It really goes to show you how much bass adds to the live experience, but I enjoyed what they were able to put together.

Agreed 100% on this track...I just went 9→10 on it...sometimes the message/meaning of a song transcends the music itself (like Lennon's "Imagine" for instance) and that's the case w/ me on this one.

Now, is 'cracker' a good thing...as in should I obtain the album?  Long Live RP!!  And hopefully BnR love RP as much as we do ;-)

{#High-five}

Pretty much took the 'typed words off my keyboard' there kingart....100% agreement...and I did boost my 7→9 today.  And now I want to hear the full album yet the Amazon Music App only had this one track available from the album....odd....oh well....LONG LIVE RP!!

I simply cannot get enough of this song right now, such a lush feel and so touching. Kinda has a Daniel Lanois vibe to it.
Good song, but hitting way too fucking close to home right now.
Sounds unremarkable but somehow this touched me. Well done, RP!
