Nice track but for the overblown drumming. Spoilt a really nice production.

Lovely stuff.

I feel very fortunate to have seen these folks perform live several times. Among a couple thousand shows over a lifetime of chasing this stuff down, those shows really stand out. Throwing Muses were amazing.

Fully agree. I got to see them only 1x in a small Chicago venue years ago - fantastic!

32 years now.
This always reminds me of the Pixies.

And that's a good thing!

For those of us born in 1954, 25 years ago seems like yesterday.

Great influential album. This song sounds very similar to the Pixies' UK Surf Mix of 'Wave of Mutilation'.

Perhaps the Pixies, who did 'Wave of Mutilation' in 2004, were influenced by this 1991 Throwing Muses tune.
                           I could be wrong {#Crown}

Actually, Pixies' "Wave of Mutilation" came out in 1989 (on the classic album Doolittle). But these two (New England based) bands came up at around the same time, and wow did I listen to a lot of both of them in high school! I met them that year too, and Kristen Hersh is incredibly nice.

Love that - i usually have a "song of the summer" but may need full soundtrack now that you mention it.

Not one of their better tunes, IMHO. I love Kristin, but not this one so much. Still a 7, though.
There was a band in Boulder in the mid-80s called Electric Third Rail; the lead singer was a mercurial gal named George, and they sounded a lot like this. Well, usually a bit more rocking, but this made me remember seeing them in the hippest places all over town...
This band was one of my favs in the 90s
There you go. Playa this song rather than that Greg Laswell crap (https://www.radioparadise.com/?name=Music&file=songinfo&song_id=42148)

Very jealous.  An amazing opportunity.  Well I guess but then they also say not to meet your heroes though I have always assumed that advice depended on who you chose.

Amazing band with several quite impressive albums - this is one of them.  If you like this track you will like the album for sure.  Also worth getting is "University" - another great one.  Oh yeah and "House Tornado" too, and....

I have them all and hve never been disappointed.  Oh, and you forgot "Hunkpapa"!
Nothing the muses ever did was as good as their first album but that was VERY good. Still can't help upping the volume whenever this floats by on RP. Never specifically noticed it when I bought and listened to the album back then though..

very reminiscent of Wave of Mutilation (UK Surf version)

A lot of overlap, yes... they were even on the same label in the UK (4AD). Like that means anything.
The Cranberries meet Cocteau Twins?  I like it.

Prithee, my dear, why are we here?
hey, watch who your throwing those muses at, they can really hurt if you get hit by one...
I don't ordinarily like Throwing Muses (too shrill) but this, I like.{#Cowboy}
Wow.  I havent played this album in years.  Days go by and they just keep going by....
Kristen can just break your heart

Always appreciate how you mix otherwise under appreciated songs (C sides) in a way to makes me hear them in a new way. Interesting; but not my fav Throwing Muses - great band. How about some Belly!
Worst song on an otherwise good album. Why this one?
I pronounce this most excellent. Totally Cool. 9
did i blow a speaker, or was this mixed by helen keller?
one of my all time fave bands. amazing live. wow this takes me back
The beginning sounds like Petty's "Don't come around here no more". Always heard of this band but never really got a chance to hear their music. Worth some investigation, I think.
I'm not that familiar with the Throwing Muses, but I guess this should be listened to in the context of the complete album(?) On its own it doesn't hold up, I think.

I've been a Throwing fan for almost 20 years, and I have a hard time finding any of their songs that I don't like. This one comes pretty close.
Boooooo -- rrriinnnnngggg
Granted, this comment really hits a home run. Perfect envisioning. redeyespy wrote:

Who stepped on the reverb reverb reverb reverb? I can hardly hear her. She's singing in the studio across the cave from the band.
Love the Muses, but this song is a throw-away.
i think the "ho-hum" rating is perfect for this song. (because it makes me sleepy.)

For lack of a better explanation this song is just too out of it for me to really enjoy it. I much prefer the song "Counting Backwards" off this album, which is way more upbeat and nothing like this. In fact, many years ago I had this sampler tape of new artists from Elektra(?). It had a wide variety of bands, but Throwing Muses still stands out in my mind. There were a couple other really good artists on there... ah, memory lane.
Pretty sure they were prominently featured on Sire's sampler series, starting with Just Say Yes. If I remember right, Sire was Warner Bros. "alternative" label. The link to Just Say Yes is: https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000002LD9/qid=1120786311/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/102-0564254-7472904

I dont think its even valid to compare CJ to Throwing Muses. They are each incredible performers in their own musical genres. Just because the Muses wrote a song that sounds vaguely like a CJ song doesn't mean they're suddenly trying to break into the same type of music.
