any update on the chromecast support? 
having the slideshow player on TV directly (so without the not so perfect tab casting) would be great.

I use an android app called Dashboard Cast.

It uses widgets to build a customized screen to cast. Choose the audio widget and paste one of the many mp3 streams from the RP website such as.

No playlist but you do get a slideshow - not RP's.

Works for me - no dropouts.

I'm chromecasting RP just fine using Tunein Radio Pro. No problems or skips. No album covers or metadata though. I'll take it.

Now  I'm using chromecast 2 and a bluetoth adapter, the chromecast on the tv (with mirror screen), the bluetooth audio adapter on my old stereo.

Apparently my router does 2.4 and 5Ghz together, and it was a problem for that dongle (some users report similar issues).

Now with ethernet adapter, perfectly stable streaming and responsiveness. Local streaming was almost not affected, for some reason.

You may try with another access point or reconfigure your router (disable 5Ghz) to see if it helps.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions on this thread.  I've found 3 ways to cast RP, and unfortunately none of them work satisfactorily.

The beta RP app works for casting, but there are frequent dropouts (ie it doesn't seem to be buffering adequately on the Chromcast).

ETvonHome's Python code also works, but there is the same buffering issue, and also I couldn't get it to relay song metadata to my phone.

Mirror mode / screencasting works well in terms of buffering (no dropouts), but there is a definite loss in audio quality.

So far the best way to have RP on my stereo is to plug my phone directly into the amp, which defeats the purpose of having a Chromecast!  I may repurpose an old phone just for this use, but then I don't know of an easy way to get remote volume control.

Has anyone managed to get this working any better, and if so what other tricks can I try while we wait for a full release of the RP app with Chromecast support?

RP on Chromecast with Python and pychromecast

The only valuable purpose of a Chromecast is to play Radio Paradise.

Unfortunately Beta Android RP app still deserve to stay Beta regarding Chromecast support ;)

Thanks for the info, as well as all the work you do with the apps. I can live with it as it is.  

 

The main ui isn't integrated with the chromecast feature yet.   So the phone and cast receiver act independently.    

The Chromecast handles the streaming,  ie you can turn off your phone once it has started.  Alternatively there is mirror mode that can be controlled outside the app that casts from the phone and requires it to remain on.

 

Any plans for chrome cast audio support in the RP IOS app?

Hello. Got myself a Chromecast Audio and tried the RP beta on my Android phone. It does work but I have a couple questions about its operation that maybe of you fellow RP listeners may have an answer to. One, it is that it continues playing music on the phone at the same time it casts to the Chromecast. Two, and more about the architecture, is why is the stream cast delayed a few seconds compared to the phone? The phone is doing enough buffering, and is already off. Does it mean it is the phone doing the casting, instead of forwarding the audio stream url to the Chromecast device to stream directly? Confusing.
