41-year-old shortstops are a rarity. I figure 100 million of that was intended as a rude gesture to Fernando Tatis. SD fans and I imagine ownership is pissed at that guy. They've spent decades lambasting San Francisco as dirty...

Red Sox sign OF Masataka Yoshida:

Yoshida, 29, locked in a deal with the Red Sox on the first day he was eligible to sign after the Orix Buffaloes, the reigning Japan Series champion, posted him. A corner outfielder, Yoshida hit .335/.447/.561 with 21 home runs, 80 walks and just 41 strikeouts in 508 plate appearances this year.

...

Yoshida spent seven seasons with Orix, distinguishing himself as one of the best players in Japan. Over his career, he has batted .326/.419/.538 with just 307 strikeouts in 3,251 plate appearances. Minnesota Twinsleadoff man Luis Arraez was the only player in MLB last year with a lower strikeout rate than Yoshida.

Only setback is he doesn’t have an arm, but playing in LF at Fenway might equalize that out.

I guess Orix is the company, not a town, so that's weird, but an oryx is a bovid, as are buffaloes. I thought that part was awesome.

Oh well

Aaron Judge continues the tradition of telling the Giants, “Thanks, but no thanks.”

I'd read that the Yankees and Judge's representatives have "been exchanging offers", but I didn't know if Judge was personally meeting with any teams - though he was apparently hanging out with Tom Brady in Tampa last night.

Looks like Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaert is opting out his remaining 3 years to test the free agent market. Another inept front office decision where we will lose another top player.

I'm not sure the Giants are gamblers but I am sure that if they don't sign him, they want to make sure whoever does sign him pays half a billion. Especially if it's the Dodgers. They'll have to make room on their payroll and the Giants could replace 2 or 3 players with whoever gets jettisoned. Trea Turner, f'rexample.

There is some Met rumoring already on Turner.  The Phillies did not pick up Gene Segura's option, so maybe they'll go shopping again and move Bryson Stott to 2nd.

It really was hopeless if the Phillies didn't jump out to a lead early.

Where do you think Judge will end up?

Judge is older than the recent "big" contract folks.  Juan Soto is 24.  Fernando Tatis Jr. is 23.    Judge is a peer of Bryce Harper and Mike Trout, who are now 5 years into their "big" deals.  Aaron is a bit late.   San Francisco is a place I've heard, because they are fighting LA and SD in the NL West, and don't have any "names" with the retirement of Buster Posey. He's now the face of the Yankees...and I think they are likely to pay more than others.  It may take a while, but I think he stays in NY.

He is older but could probably DH for many, many years to come. The Yankees really need to sign him I think. After the season he had it would be mistake to let him get away. I hope they do the right thing.{#Meditate}

Having been a Yankee fan since they used to come on TV every Saturday with Dizzy Dean calling the game and PeeWee Reese handling the color...I met Bobby Richardson in 2003 or so and was too awestruck to hardly speak when he said I was too young to remember him play...I wish I had told him yeah, I don't remember Moose at first, Elston or Yogi behind the plate, Clete at third, Tony and Tom at short, him at second, Roger in right, Mickey in center, and Doc or Yogi in left.  I truly wish I had because I knew...Anyway I relate this tale of dumbassery to prove I am a true Yankee fan but when my home state team became an American league team things got weird. Houston continued to suck but I had always stuck right with them hoping next year would be the year while the Yankees continued to win until the Astros organization put together the teams that led to the team we have today. When the two meet I have the best of both worlds but root for the home team of course.

Go Yankees, except against the Astros!{#War}
