Totally a Moneyball thing. The out is too valuable to risk and they're right: a good pickoff play is a huge disaster for the batting team; that's what makes it interesting. Defensive indifference vs Stolen base — if the pitcher is hesitant to throw over because it might be called a balk, that's defensive indifference to me. And that's boring.

There are 7 teams with winning percentages below .400, including 3 in the NL Central. That seems like a lot. There are 15 teams below .500, including 4 in the AL West.

Clemens #21 on the mound for los Tigres today.

Today is like a Saturday with the MLB schedule.
Game times at 1, 2, 3:30, 4, 7, 8, & 10pm.
No reason not to catch a game OR two today.
And I don't want to hear any of those lame excuses about jobs and families.

Both coasts are doing great, the Yankees are just nuts so far.
Tigers fans wanted Kapler a few years ago. It wouldn't have fit then but now Detroit is arriving in the 21st century with player analytics  and minor league player development.
They may make it by the half-century mark.

I'm pretty sure the BoSox would strongly consider Gabe Kapler when Alex Cora moves on. Kapler was very popular in Boston as a player and also as a manager of their single-A team.

Why not again, Kody hit it in the same spot as the first one, ground ball single between 1st & 2nd

I am definitely looking forward to the new schedule next year. Since I retired I have more time to check out west coast teams (in the past morning papers never had scores) and next year everybody plays everybody. A lot of good players to watch outside of both the AL & NL Central.

Thru May, every team had a winning record. For a while, the Dodgers were beating up on sub-.500 teams but now the cream is starting to separate; LA, SD, SF are all 2 games over .500 vs. >.500 teams, DEN and PHX are both .330

We're all looking at the Mets and thinking hey at least it's not the Dodgers running away with it!

NL West is a mess right now. Exciting (to me, anyway), but a mess. Injuries, players had career years in '21 and are reverting to the norm this year, and the managers are all making baffling decisions where last year no one had much bad to say about Roberts or Kapler, but there's a lot of grumbling this year.

SOX went 8-2 on their West Coast trip and finally over .500.

They pulled the tarp off and the game was played last night.
Those red leafed son-of-a-guns put the beat down on los Tigres de Detroit 10-1.
But after the news of yet another pitcher going down for the john surgery it doesn't much matter.

As a long time fan you know how maybe once every 10 years or so you get a true gut punch because you believed that this was going to be the start of something big?
I have been aided by past life experiences to get through this season, it's been the M*A*S*H unit from hell.
Pitching coach Chris Fetter is a miracle worker, the Tigers bullpen is second only to the Dodgers and that's been it.

It's official: in the mlb.tv between-innings promo, she really does say we can catch all the draw-jopping action. About 12 times per game.
