William Post, the man credited with inventing the Pop-Tart, has passed away. He was 96.

The Newsweek obit notes that "from the age of 21, Post worked as a manager at biscuit manufacturer Hekman - now the Keebler Company - and rose to managing the company's plant in Grand Rapids … There, in 1964, he was asked by breakfast food company Kellogg's to create a new product that could be made in a toaster … In an interview with local news channel WWMT in 2021, Post said that there were 'many naysayers' because to make the double-layered pastry a 60-ton piece of equipment had to be raised on a platform. There were also fears of the frosting on the outside melting in a toaster … However, Pop-Tarts quickly became a success, and Post went on to work as a consultant for Kellogg's. He told WWMT his favorite flavor remained the original strawberry, and that he always kept a box in his car - which bore a personalized Pop-Tart numberplate - as a snack."

didn't know Bob gave the co to his employees...if only others...

Bob Moore, the founder of Bob's Red Mill who upon his retirement more than a dozen years ago essentially gave the company to his employees, has passed away. He was 94.

Moore grew the company from a small concern that served only the Portland, Oregon, market to a global natural food brand selling more than 200 items in more than 70 countries.

"Bob's legacy will live on forever in all of us who had the opportunity to work with him and is infused into the Bob's Red Mill brand," said Bob's Red Mill CEO Trey Winthrop. "He did everything in his power to leave us on a strong path forward. All of us feel responsible and motivated to preserve his old-world approach to unprocessed foods; his commitment to pure, high-quality ingredients; and his generosity to employee owners and educational organizations focused on nutritional health."

Oh, the stories....

That joint opened in 1975 and closed in the late 90's when Bill (the owner) passed away.  Loved that guy.

I booked Mojo in a few shows back in about 1985. He didn’t make much money, but the shows he did in a tiny bar with Screaming Trees opening are literally legendary in San Luis Obispo.
RIP Kirby. Hope the couch is soft up there.
