- Godley Creme - I'm a lifelong 10cc and G&C fan. However I never heard their debut album (not sure why but there it is). The vocal layering here was reminiscent of the I'm Not in Love track. Probably my favorite lyric on the mix "spread your dreams like butter on your toast"
Fantastic story to go with. Much appreciated.
But the best line in that song is âThe factory gates are opening / to let the night shift out / and the day shift in..,â - using âshiftâ either as to move or change - or as the group of workers.
Or wait. âYouâre only half awake. The Other Half is shavingâ¦â A brilliant piece of wordplay.
And, yes, I think they were letting us know in no uncertain terms that they were responsible for the voices on Not In Love.
I have two vinyl copies of Consequences, and the CD version. Damn I love those guys. You will absolutely be seeing them again on my mixes.
and the PDF link to the "cover"
Should be suitable for printing right up and putting in a CD case, or use the image as the icon for the music folder.
Tried to put on things that were probably new to most folks, but not too weird, and that flowed via segues. Gotta enjoy the listen!
Holy crap - just realized I meant to add a different Soul Coughing tune but put this one on again. Good grief. I might remake that side and reload. Will take a minute.
My review starts out with a little ColdMiser audio history. Bout a dozen years ago when I dug my vinyl collection out of mothballs, and bought some low end gear to dig them with, I asked for a pair of headphones for Christmas. Low and behold a pair was left for me under the tree by Mrs. Claus. However the jack input was too small for my tuner and too large for the ipod I was using at the time. I planned on buying an adaptor but alas never got around to it. So I put the headphones, still in the box, in a cabinet and forgot all about them. Fast forward to this past Christmas I looking for an old ornament of my late wife's and came upon the headphones in the cabinet I was digging thru. Oh yeah I thought at the time and promptly forgot about them again. But upon receiving your latest WAV file mix, that I was going to have to listen to on my laptop speaker again, it struck me to see if that old pair of headphones would work on this computer. BINGO! the jack fit perfectly and I was off to the land of personal listening pleasure for the first time in decades. Man have I been missing out! My thoughts along the way after a few listens.
- Numbers - there is ALOT going on in the background on this one.

- Crack the Sky - OK HUGE fan of these guys. It was really cool hearing that electric guitar intro move thru my head from ear to ear.
- Rachel's Song - I never considered his stuff "headphones only" material but this was crazy good this way. I've seen McMurtry live a few times and each time caught up to him at the bar either before or after the show. Strange Cat.
- Kevin Gilbert - a personal thank you for turning me onto this guy. He's awesome, right up my alley. "Lennon doesn't have to sing a Paul McCartney song" - choice lyric.
- Robert Downey Jr - a good use of sampling the original Your Move song while still making it his own. This was surprisingly good!
- 4 out of 5 - I like the way this bops along. Easily could have been a Godley Creme creation.
- Global - I'm not a fan of Techno Todd (and I've tried!) but this was good on headphones.
- My Love is Alive - I always crank up the original when I hear it so I did the same on Joan's version and it was just as good.
Listening to a Headphones Only mix on actual Headphones was one of the most pleasurable listening experiences I've had in quite some time. All the little nuances I've been missing out on. You put together a perfect blend of tunes to enjoy on them. So thank you and kudos on a job well done.
As soon as I have some time I'm going to put on your last Headphones CD and give that another go, even if it's just for the Kevin Gilbert. And the same goes for Kurt's load of tasty ear candy.
edit: igor and drums = seemingly effortless excellence
He mimics Seraphine perfectly. Amazing. The trumpet solo made me tear up a little. They're SO good. This guitar player - perfect Kath - isn't in the band now.
Hooked. First you brought Rachel Flowers (and my how she has grown up !) to my attention and now Leonid & Friends. This song gets me to tear up a little bit as well. .

To confess, the two groaners or what I thought would be were All Right Now and Monkey Island. The former because it was airplayed to death and the latter because I thought that it was a totally obscure self indulgent track from a band that not everyone gets into. I was happily surprised to find out otherwise. Monkey Island is one of my guilty pleasure songs and the whole album is actually listenable with more traditional Geils stuff.
Witchie Tai To is a dear deep track. Lot's of airplay here in Cleveburg. Shipley has a local connection. His Dad was the principal for a now long gone Catholic HS that had some notable alumni like Eric Carmen and some others well known here in town. For awhile you might also hear the original version by Jim Pepper on some Sunday morning shows. It is also a song that caught my attention when I first landed here 22 years ago by way of the winmx browser on my dial up Windows ME puter. Turned my head, got whiplash. No one ever played it let alone hear it for years. There are no digital copies that I'm aware of. This is from a white label promo copy I've been after for a very long time. Not knowing anything about William or the internet for that matter back then, I figured this was the place to be where I might hear all kinds of stuff rarely played anymore, so I stuck around and was not let down.
One song kinda lyrically leads into another and then why not end with Beginnings ? Just another guilty pleasure mix. Glad it worked and hit the right buttons.

Kurt,
I'm so sorry I'm so late to reply.
Lot's of really good excuses.
This was a great mix, and for once I can say... I've heard of every band listed!
Not every song listed.
All with impeccable sound quality.
1. Epic Eric Burdon/ Animals song that I've heard many times... but it's still great. A quick run down at what happened at Monterey back in '67.
2. Epic Joni Mitchell song that I've heard many times... but it's still great. A quick run down at what happened at Woodstock back in '67. I remember exactly the first time I heard the
original version. I was listening to KGB-FM San Diego here in the this desert in '70. An epic feat in itself... San Diego is a bit a ways from here. I was desperate. They played Joni's
version and the DJ came on and then went on a rant on how bad that version was. I thought it was unique. Never realizing it was the original.
3. "Witchi Tai To". I first heard it here on R.Paradise way back in the beginning. It seemed to be a favorite of William's. I remember him making comments every time it was played. I look
forward to when I get to hear it anytime.
4. I'm familiar with this one, for sure.
5. I'm familiar with this one, for sure.
6. "Instant Karma"I have this on a 45. Probably the last 45 I bought. Since I did purchase it... I liked it.
7. "Angelsea". My first girlfriend loved Cat Stevens. I kind of grew tired of him because she loved his "hits". I developed a trend of disliking the "hits" from most artist back then... and into
the future. But I grew to love Cat's deeper cuts like this one. My favorite cut on your playlist. One must try Banapple Gas!
8. Never heard this one before. Thanks for the enlightenment.
9. "Rehumanize Yourself". This brings me back to my KROQ-FM Los Angeles days. Great memories here.
10. Not a "regular" song you hear from the Who.
11. Another song I've never heard before. Nice find for me.
12. "Dino's Song". Good 'ol hippie music! Yes. I even have a few Quicksilver songs on 45.
13. A Nazareth song I haven't heard before. Good digging Kurt.
14. "Monkey Island". I wasn't a big fan of "J's". But this is probably my favorite one from them.
15. "Beginnings". I wasn't much into Chicago back when they came out. Too many horns. I've since started enjoying some of their stuff.
Great job Kurt!
Thanks for doing your yearly contribution with the most excellent sound!
(Robert Downey Jr. can sing? Who knew? I could have been convinced that was an alternate version by Yes)
Great tunes, nice transitions, excellent sound quality.
Glad it worked for you!
That's Jon Anderson backing up Iron Man.
These all came from FLAC files, converted to ALAC and then mixed onto GarageBand so I could segue. Then saved as AIFF/WAV at the best quality it would allow. You want hiss? Get a cat.
EDIT - my file download time has run out for the upload, but if you didn't get the files lemme know and I'll re-upload it for you. You lazy sod.
I modified Side B to remove the repeat Soul Coughing. Here's the AIFF link. And the WAV files. And the updated cover.
Tried to listen to this while working but I found it demanded a bit more attention than that. And a glass of sake.
Detected a number of themes—the numbers thing, but also a strong prog rock flavor and great sonic landscaping. Been a while since I indulged those tastes, a very rewarding experience!
A couple of terrific (and unexpected) covers (Robert Downey Jr. can sing? Who knew? I could have been convinced that was an alternate version by Yes) and mostly tunes new to me. This made for a really pleasant evening.
I got the version with the Soul Coughing tune, which I really dug. I thought it fit well into the mix, so I don't feel cheated out of the Guess Who.
Great tunes, nice transitions, excellent sound quality.
From WeTransfer - the WAV files for this month's Headphones Only. AIFF files if you'd prefer.
Looks like it expires in seven days, so if you're using 9600 baud dial up, you better get going.
Again, let me know if there's a problem - or if it works. Experimenting.
I've successfully downloaded and will put ears on it later in the week. Looks like it's gonna be a good one!
