I spy something beginning with 's'

On candy stripe legs, the spiderman comes
Softly through the shadow of the evening sun
Stealing past the windows of the blissfully dead
Looking for the victim, shivering in bed

Searching out fear in the gathering gloom
And suddenly, a movement in the corner of the room
And there is nothing I can do, and I realize with fright
That the spiderman is having me for dinner tonight

Quietly he laughs, shaking his head
Creeps closer now, closer to the foot of the bed
And softer than shadow and quicker than flies
His arms are all around me and his tongue in my eyes

"Be still, be calm, be quiet now, my precious boy
Don't struggle like that or I will only love you more
For it's much too late to get away or turn on the light
The spiderman is having you for dinner tonight"

And I feel like I'm being eaten
By a thousand million shivering furry holes
And I know that in the morning I will wake up in the shivering cold
And the spiderman is always hungry

"Come into my parlour" said the spider to the fly
"I have something"

Just saw them in concert in Philly a couple of months back. At 65 Robert is as talented as ever. The Cures new music is even able to rival their "classic" stuff. I hope Robert is still writing and performing at 90.

Excited to see Robert and his crew next month.  It's been awhile since I've seen them live.
I adore this band with all my heart and soul and have for so long. Finally got tickets to see them live in 2023 and I couldn't be more excited. They have been top of my must-see list for decades. This is a lifetime event for me.

This is one my least favourite of their "hits" but I completely adore Disintegration- it's part of my DNA at this point, and so are the Cure. And, anyway, the song sounds really good to my ears today.

Long live the Cure, and long live Robert Smith. They mean so so much to so many of us.

Well, that helps me understand some of The Cure's popularity!

Excellent!! The more I hear it, the more I like it.  Thanx RP!
There is such a thing...as terrifying beauty.
Top five albums all time albums for me from start to finish.
Damned if this song isn't an example of musical perfection

Not your usual Cure tune. I like it!! I never heard it before. Thanx RP!
In response to some posts earlier down

Oh, so now we're cancelling the Cure because some man-bun wearing, cry-room seeking millennial is getting his panties in a bunch, associating Lullaby to pedo stuff...? Screw that and play it again, Bill!

Look - everyone sane hates pedos, but let's be real here people; pending that telling spooky stories was all he did, somebody should send Smith's creepy uncle a fruit basket for screwing up young Robert enough to later in life write this excellent track. I'll take your down-vote as secretly agreeing.
I'm not getting shit done at work today.
Just too much damn good music.
Oh well

ONE OF HIS FAVOURITES WAS TO WHISPER GRIM BEDSIDE STORIES INTO MY EAR, STORIES THAT OFTEN RELATED THE TWISTED DEEDS OF A HORRIBLE BOY-EATING CREATURE CALLED SIMPLY 'THE SPIDERMAN'. ONE NIGHT HE (MY UNCLE?) ACTUALLY WENT SO FAR AS TO CLIMB IN THROUGH MY BEDROOM WINDOW AFTER THE LIGHTS HAD BEEN PUT OUT... I SCREAMED FOR WHAT SEEMED LIKE DAYS. THE 'SPIDERMAN' STORIES ENDED THAT NIGHT, BUT MY FEAR OF THE DARK AND SPIDERS PERSISTED FOR QUITE SOME TIME... THE TPD VIDEO WON THE BPI 'VIDEO OF THE YEAR' AWARD... SO I SUPPOSE THANKYOU UNCLE ROBERT, WHEREVER YOU ARE NOW... "

This brilliant, brilliant song might have many possible meanings, but to me it speaks of incest and pedophilia. The spiderman is the father/unkle/whatever who comes to the little boy's bed at night and abuses him. just listen to the words and you'll see what i mean.

the thing is, it's so soothing, the music is so easy on the ears and the title suggests such good things (which is part of why it's so brilliant), and all that means that this song is played on radio, tv, commercials, events, etc, in so many positive circumstances, that people lose the context.

So next time you hear it, please don't think "oh, what a wonderful bed time lullaby", and please don't put your kids to bed with it, if you have any...

I like this song, but I think being eaten by a thousand million shivering Ho ho's more disturbing than the spider imagery.
Great song to listen to while laying on the couch and the standing floor speakers turned way up. Especially at night.

Yes, maybe soon you'll begin to understand Robert Smith's many ironic layers; a hyper straight man who gender-bended with his appearence and moody subject matter. But, then again he was merely following a well-worn path laid by so many obscure rockers who came before him. Barely heard of names like Mick Jagger, Robert Plant, and David Bowie, to name a few.
This song is creepy on all the best possible ways.

That's an incredibly ignorant statement on more than one level.
I felt like I'd heard this song for years as if it was just background, and then, suddenly, maybe because of where I was at on all levels at the time, I really heard it like for the first time...and then, after, of course it can never be the same...  I was in a stone farmhouse in the hills of Amiata the winter and spring of '05 and I can honestly say I had never seen so many spiders in my life nor have I since!  Spiders in the wine, spiders in the firewood, spiders in every possible place in the bathrooms upstairs and down...and this song came on over the Radio Roma...and -- well, I was paying attention, and it will forever stay in my mind...it remains an eerie, mystical soundscape episode for me...

I think they meant wonderful memories of this song and its melody, probably not the presumed implications of its lyrical content.  Your interpretation of the lyrics (though astute) is not necessarily the definitive one - not unless you're Robert Smith.

I was aware of The Cure in the 80's but I obviously never really was listening...
because I'm hearing a much much better band than I ever realized then.

Guess I was too busy at the time with other things on my mind.

Russian word «Ð¿ÑŒÑÐœÐžÑ†Ð°» on the t-shirt Robert reads like a «drunkard»
