If dogs run free, then why not we
Across the swooping plain?
My ears hear a symphony
Of two mules, trains and rain.
The best is always yet to come,
That's what they explain to me.
Just do your thing, you'll be king,
If dogs run free.

If dogs run free, why not me
Across the swamp of time?
My mind weaves a symphony
And tapestry of rhyme.
Oh, winds which rush my tale to thee
So it may flow and be,
To each his own, it's all unknown,
If dogs run free.

If dogs run free, then what must be,
Must be, and that is all.
True love can make a blade of grass
Stand up straight and tall.
In harmony with the cosmic sea,
True love needs no company,
It can cure the soul, it can make it whole,
If dogs run free.

A good piece, but not a piece for radio. You have to want to hear this and choose to play it.

yep
I liked Dylan's part in this song, but someone needs to help that choking dog in the background. lol how goofy is she?
Is it over?
She's nuttier than a squirrels fart!
That little snippet from Wizard of Oz!
I'm whimpering.
Bob, surely you could afford a real dog! If Floyd could.... Someone shoot her!
... we immediately logged on again and paused 'RAY' to come an' listen ( an' comment ) on this lil ripper of a Dylan song!
We immediately logged off. this is horribly annoying.
One of the coolest Dylan tunes ever- just so uncharistic of his stuff, which is why it excells. Beat poetry with cool jazz piano, nice jazz guitar licks, and a scat backup to it all, who could ask for anything less conventional in light of what he had done. Of course, you could always figure that's why it was an out-take and put on the "New Morning" album, which seems like a collection of stuff off the editing floor. Victoria Spivey was the singer, if I recall correctly.

is there a reason he chose such an annoying back-up singer? Girlfriend at the time or something?
I kinda liked it except for her.
Scubba bup bup OW!
Just about as dreadful as it can get. A zero for sure

I love Bob, but this ain't one of his finest moments. Stay away from the jazzbo stuff Bob....it ain't you.
Well this is all kinds of stupid.
we gotta love you, Bill woof! woof!
Jesus! Can this woman please take a long walk along a short pier!
Who let the dogs out? Oh, wait. This is like,...jazz. From Bobbie? I've had the same reaction for years, and it's still wonderful to hear him do jazz, so nicely. Hoagy, stand back!
We have a little doggie theme goin' on here tonight. "Just do your thing, You'll be King... ... ... "
another reason to love RP. i've always loved this crazy track. if i remember correctly, big mama's picture is on the back of this LP cover... interesting segue...

*in a raspy voice* that what i was thinkin'
Well I like most Dylan, but this one, along with whoever is doing backing vocals, just left me wondering - Why? Was this just to complete the theme of this last set?
