We were above
You were standing underneath us
We were not yet lovers
Dragons were smoked
Bumblebees were stinging us
I was soon to be crazy

Eat, drink, and be merry
For tomorrow we die
Eat, drink, and be merry
For tomorrow we die
'Cause we're Tripping Billies

We're wearing nothing
Nothing but our shadows
Shadows falling down on the beach sand
Remembering once,
Out on the beaches we wore
Pineapple grass bracelets

So why would you care
To get out of this place
You and me and all our friends
Such a happy human race

'Cause we're Tripping Billies

We are all sitting
Legs crossed round a fire
My yellow flame she dances
Tequila drinking, oh, our
Minds will wander
To wondrous places

So why would you care
To get out of this place
You and me and all our friends
Such a happy human race

Eat, drink, and be merry
For tomorrow we die
Eat, drink, and be merry
For tomorrow we die

Check 'em out, Boyd, yeah!

Eat, drink, and be merry
For tomorrow we die
Eat, drink, and be merry
For tomorrow we die

I must have listened to this entire album once a week  or more for weeks when I first heard it. The guitar's, of course are next level. What a combo Matthews and Reynolds!
Hellish
I too have tried to like this guy but I can't.  Obvious talent , tight band but he is the only musician that Bill rotates that makes me F'n cringe.   Lordy that voice.

I appreciate your sentiment. Some intelligent evidence to support your case in addition to enthusiasm would be helpful.

A successful 25+ year career (as a solo artist, with dave as a duo, and in DMB) in the music industry is no evidence at all to h8rs.  He'll be touring all year to sell-out shows whilst you trash his skills on a message board.

Try and find some TR3 shows to listen to. Funky, jazzy rock tunes? Or are the rocky, jazzy funk tunes? Maybe funky, rocky jazz tunes. They're certainly different as in not easily classifiable tunes but certainly can be part of the "rock" genre played by great musicians.

For years I've tried to like Dave Matthews, but I can't.  I'm glad lots of people do, just not me.

Looking at the Wiki write up I quote:

"During the period from 2000 to 2010, his band sold more tickets and earned more money than any other act in North America".

Some people like him and his band.
Can't wait to see him at Fiddler's Green next month!!!!
great guitar, bad voice
What a tedious mess.
Yeah so dave matthews tried once to crack the UK.

but we weren't having it.

boring as coldplay, who we apologise for
Such a great live album. A classic!

Gives you a good sense of these guys live. Cool vibe with a glass and some smoke on a nice outdoor evening.

I think I'm missing the smoke... I guess its one of those where you had to be there. I hear 'be Mary'. Well slap my ass and call me Susan, (which seems to be the norm if not mandatory in these days of gender confusion!)

Every Time,  I muscle through it.  It's me I take the blame.  But I can't stand this guy.  Only artist on RP that has be cringing.
Eat, Drink and beat Larry.

Since when does playing a lot of notes equal good guitar playing?

More often than playing fewer notes, I suppose.  It's a pretty pointless question that you're posing.
I could take or leave Dave Matthews, but RP seems to accommodate the haters by generally playing unimpressive tracts. There is a lot of good music.
Good job, Pearl Jam! oh, wait....

A sense of fear? so dramatic

I confess to not understanding his enormous following. One of the few artists on RP that has me heading to the PSD button nearly everytime.
He even mumbles his mumbles...

You Fool , you obviously have a miscued ear … here ( in the lead)
he is playing a style of guitar inspired by flamenco1
Ummm is that like "Trippin Ballz"
Since when does playing a lot of notes equal good guitar playing?

I'm a guitar player and honestly I cringe when I hear Tim Reynolds. He's sloppy and not very creative. I'm not fantastic on the guitar, but I know and appreciate talent when I hear it. It should inspire you and fill you with awe. If he would slow down I think people would realize that he's a poor player.

I really just don't get the "haters"... I think DM is creative and different (actually a very nice bloke to top it) and Timmy R is a talented guitarist. So why the hatred?... That's what the PSD button is for, Use it.

Tax is different... you're kinda forced into watching the government waste your hard earned bucks, but art? You can take it in or you can walk away. Either way, the world does not need negativity on an individual's creativity.

“Singularity, as it implies a contempt of the general practice, is a kind of defiance which justly provokes the hostility of ridicule; he, therefore, who indulges in peculiar traits, is worse than others, if he be not better.”

DM solo tiny desk
Like nails on a chalkboard.
Haven't heard this song in a while, never heard this version. Man, is it good.

Reminds me of one of my best friends that I lost two years ago. He introduced me to Dave, got me to look past the faulty perceptions others carry and puke onto others and to see beauty in all of life.
God I miss him.
The song itself lends that view toward life... eat, drink, and be merry. He was just saying hello through the wonderful medium of RP and to remind me not to take this life for granted.
RIP Justin

Are you like, good at guitar or something?... I am the biggest Dave and Tim fan, and in the past I would have made the argument (although, less offensively ) that yes, Tim's riffs are a little formulaic. But seeing and hearing him play live has really changed my mind. There is a lot of imagination there. I think his style is so different because he's used to playing heavier things on his own. I'm sure that many who aspire to know good music when they hear it, would agree that it is often harder (or less prefereable, at least) to listen to faster solos. For me, knowing that he knows what he's playing and why is enough to prove his greatness. I will step down from my stump now.
"Live at Luther College," my favorite Dave Matthews album by far. Nice to start of the work day with this.

I play some guitar too, but I only hope to ever get Tim's skill or creativity......

sheez, lighten up, dude! You can love DMB all you want, but don't expect everyone else to.

Christ, this sucks. I can\'t tell you how much I dislike Dave. Ok at first, these days he\'s intolerable.
Tim Reynolds is really good. If only that guy singing would shut up :)
I didn\'t think this song could be better...THANKS FOR THE FRESH \"NEWER\" TUNES, BILL!
