This morning I woke up in a curfew;
O God, I was a prisoner, too - yeah!
Could not recognize the faces standing over me;
They were all dressed in uniforms of brutality. Eh!

How many rivers do we have to cross,
Before we can talk to the boss? Eh!
All that we got, it seems we have lost;
We must have really paid the cost.

(That's why we gonna be)
Burnin' and a-lootin' tonight;
(Say we gonna burn and loot)
Burnin' and a-lootin' tonight;
(One more thing)
Burnin' all pollution tonight;
(Oh, yeah, yeah)
Burnin' all illusion tonight.

Oh, stop them!

Give me the food and let me grow;
Let the Roots Man take a blow.
All them drugs gonna make you slow now;
It's not the music of the ghetto. Eh!

Weeping and a-wailin' tonight;
(Who can stop the tears?)
Weeping and a-wailin' tonight;
(We've been suffering these long, long-a years!)
Weeping and a-wailin' tonight
(Will you say cheer?)
Weeping and a-wailin' tonight
(But where?)

Give me the food and let me grow;
Let the Roots Man take a blow.
I must say: all them - all them drugs gonna make you slow;
It's not the music of the ghetto.

We gonna be burning and a-looting tonight;
(To survive, yeah!)
Burning and a-looting tonight;
(Save your baby lives)
Burning all pollution tonight;
(Pollution, yeah, yeah!)
Burning all illusion tonight
(Lord-a, Lord-a, Lord-a, Lord!)

Burning and a-looting tonight;
Burning and a-looting tonight;
Burning all pollution tonight

Know what you mean. For me it is just dull. Same chords, same rhythm, and same "rich people are bad" message from some rich guy. Every tune, same thing.

Jamaica was literally a colony until Bob was 17, torn apart by violence and poverty even after that. He survived political assassination attempts.

This is not "rich man bad" music from some middle-class dude.

I respectfully suggest you missed the point of the song.

He isn't telling people to burn and loot! He is just making a social commentary about all the unnecessary burning and lootin' that he grew up around in Kingston town! Read up on the great Bob Marley history! He would never propose any violence! He was a peacemaker!

At the Roxy... I was in line to purchase tickets to this show, then left in disgust when I found out they were $10 apiece.

What a silly form of protest.

Ouch! My friend and I went to Ticketmaster back in the day. We were there to buy Def Leppard tickets when my friend noticed there were Peter Gabriel tickets on sale. He tried to talk me into going, but I insisted on the Def Leppard tickets. At least I finally got to see PG on his Secret World tour.
Marley is a legend. His music is legendary. After a few minutes...I'm sick of it. Sorry...

Yeah... by singing about burning and looting.  Real peaceful.

Revolutions come from burning and looting. As folks across the Pond should know only too well, the US having been formed by a violent revolution.

Burning and looting is not supposed to be taken literally.  Just like the bible.  Peace all.

School just ended. Waiting for summer semester to start.
All the house windows are open. A warm breeze sways the curtains.
Occasional noise from the street, or a lawn mower.
Working, doing something. Nothing important.
Bob Marley on the stereo. Peace.

Nice. Vibe well captured.

This is the first Marley song that I have ever heard that I did not like. Oh well, can't win em all!

Nice concert!  Nice 80 sound!

It's just Bob, innit? Always was and always is KEWL.
Bob Marley - Burnin' And Lootin'
The Clash - I Fought The Law
The Who - Summertime Blues

For some reason, after the first two of this group, I was thinking of Eric Clapton's cover of "I Shot The Sheriff", which would lead nicely into Bob Marley.

mmmm, love this.  makes me sway in my desk chair...
Was fortunate to see Bob's final U.S. concert in Pittsburgh back in the day.  An amazing person and performer.  Long live reggae.

.... dated? Since when has that had any relevance whatsoever? Boring? Well you're entitled to your opinion.. even if it makes you seem like a tasteless sot. Bob Marley is my hero, thanks for this, Bill!
I wouldn't call him a prophet, but he sure was good and had a good message. elliotgoettelman wrote:

bob my man...? we reunite for life~
Did he say "How many reefers?"
Saw Bob live in 1976 at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago, IL US. AWESOME! Went to visit his home and mausoleum in 2000. Sad. Bob no dead. Bob JAH!
Thank you, RP, for introducing me to this album. It has quickly become one of my favorite live albums. The sound quality is even better than on Babylon By Bus!
yea! Burn those who gave this a 1.
What an amazing sound
I'm trying to like it ..
I saw this one guy in St. Croix who had a total of two dreadlocks (as in all of his hair combined) They went down to his knees. One of them was about 2 inches in diameter. I think H.R. (in Bad Brains) had three and I thought that was pretty impressive
Spiritual.

Getting to see Bob Marley live was certainly an awe inspiring event. As Eric Clapton said about Stevie Ray Vaughan, "you knew you were in the presence of greatness".
for all the ones who know.
Stop your complaining and look at that guitar. How bloody cool is that?
RP needs more reggae! get realistic, there is such a wide variety out there, i agree, marley can be overplayed, but try some of the late 70's dennis brown at his prime, or some of the new artists, like junior kelly's smile or burning spears grammy winner, or the list goes on and on . . .
Sorry to the naysayers. Bob belongs here and based on the many live performances I attended, it seems pretty "real" to me.

Too much of Bob makes everyone , especially if it is some lousy live performance, a long way from the real thing, and you know it!
Unfortunately, we no longer have the opportunity to see and hear Bob live . . . thank goodness he left all of his wonderful works, including this one.
reggae sucks :P
ALL PRAISE BE TO BOB......REGGAE ON MON!
Doesn't sound like a lousy recording from where I am sitting... Solid groove...

Speak for yourself. I haven't yet experienced "too much of Bob".
