Whippoorwill's singing
Soft summer breeze
Makes me think of my baby
I left down in New Orleans
I left down in New Orleans
Magnolia, you sweet thing
You're driving me mad
Got to get back to you, babe
You're the best I ever had
You're the best I ever had
You whisper "Good morning"
So gently in my ear
I'm coming home to you, babe
I'll soon be there
I'll soon be there

Magnolia, you sweet thing
You're driving me mad
Got to get back to you, babe
You're the best I ever had
You're the best I ever had
You're the best I ever had
You're the best I ever had

You just spoke the truth (and late night memory) for many of us,,,
Were it not so...
My husband just passed away last week.  I have not been able to listen to my usual main mix - bu today I wanted music - this mellow mix is just perfect for me at this tender time . Thank-you RP

I wonder what was written first, this or the Commodores Sweet Love?  They seem to have some similarities.

The Wiki says Sweet Love came out five years later. But yeah, I hear similarities.

Umm, perhaps you're in some other time zone?  Planet?  Galaxy? Universe?

Simple, but simply the best. Thanks again, Andrew MacLean (dec'd), for teaching me this song.
{#Good-vibes}
One of the best tunes ever...
Bought this LP when it came because the cover intrigued me. An absolute knock-out! Been a Cale fan ever since. Supreme guitar, just right voice, superb song.
Wonderful to hear this gem.
Wonderful.  An inspiration for so many. Imitated by a few big names, too.
Thanks for playing this.  Right now I need to hear it.
I don't think I've ever heard this song before. Wonderful. This is why I listen to RP. Thanks Bill.
One of the all-time great ballads, from an equally great album.
RIP JJ.
His music helped me survive, it did. Thanks fellow Okie.

I bought this album in downtown Peoria, 1973

fab legacy, thanks for the memories :)

Magnolia pushed me 'over the edge' to donate to RP for another year. THANKS, J.J.~!!!

Very smooth classic stuff... love it...
