Somebody call for the doctor, I think I'm sick
Ain't had my medicine in over a week
My mind's fine but my body feels weak
Call the doctor, I think I'm sick
A shady lady took all my bread
Ravished my body, lord, and messed with my head
I don't know but I've had my fill
Call the doctor and tell him I'm ill
My money's gone and I've got no place to go
I don't believe I've ever felt so low
If you've got the time while you hang around
Call the doctor and tell him I'm down
Ain't had my medicine in over a week
My mind's fine but my body feels weak
Call the doctor, I think I'm sick
A shady lady took all my bread
Ravished my body, lord, and messed with my head
I don't know but I've had my fill
Call the doctor and tell him I'm ill

I can't help tapping my foot
I was privileged to see Cale perform live in 1974 at the Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton, Alberta (that's in Canada for you USA listeners):) He came onstage and played many songs from this album, and. . . never made eye-contact with the audience during his whole performance. There was a standing ovation at the end, me included, but JJ never saw it because he slipped quietly off-stage when he was finished. That's when I fully realized, stoned as I most likely was, that this was an artist who was thoroughly tuned into his craft.
Almost 50 years later, my admiration for his musicianship has not diminished one iota!

Apparently, he was such a shy performer, he practically hid from the audience.
Sweet memories.
Probably Covid
R.I.P the legend that is JJ Cale!!!!

I hear Summertime (Big Brother cover) in this. I wonder if there's a common thread or if it's just in my mind...

God, I hadn't heard this for over forty years, and it's still a stonker. 10!

Bill, keep playing this wonderful music, wow he is so good! Thank you.
Great--great
One of the first tunes I learned on the guitar - so many great memories - Vale Andrew MacLean, my teacher of all things cool on the guitar.
I came across JJ Cale thanks to a misunderstanding of a friend of mine.
Years ago he asked me a suggestion for the present for my own birthday. My answer was "a record of John Cale".
And I received my first record of JJ Cale....
By the way, it was "5".
so back in 1972 I'm thumbing through the albums at the record store and I see this funky racoon and see that it is on Leon Russell's label and I bought it without ever hearing it, turned out real real good

Classic album.
There was so much great music on friends' turntables at parties in the early seventies, a lot of it just melts into the blurry soundscape of those memories. I distinctly recall that racoon, though.
I hear Summertime (Big Brother cover) in this. I wonder if there's a common thread or if it's just in my mind...
luv it a lot 9
That bass-line, that voice.
Bless you

Lots of people played "Laid-back" music, but JJ was the master.
Fan-bloody-tastic! If the whole album is like this, it is a must-have! (9/10)

Every time I hear something from this album I'm tempted to turn off RP, get it out, and just play the whole thing.
