Well, you've got your diamonds
and you've got your pretty clothes
And the chauffeur drives your car
You let everybody know

But don't play with me,
'cause you're playing with fire

Your mother she's an heiress,
owns a block in Saint John's Wood
And your father'd be there with her
If he only could

But don't play with me,
'cause you're playing with fire

Your old man took her diamonds
and tiaras by the score
Now she gets her kicks in Stepney
Not in Knightsbridge anymore

So don't play with me,
'cause you're playing with fire

Now you've got some diamonds
and you will have some others
But you'd better watch your step, girl
Or start living with your mother

So don't play with me,
'cause you're playing with fire
So don't play with me,
'cause you're playing with fire

The Brian Jones Band
To think this was what they did in their "infancy" in the early 60's.  Amazing.

First Album I bought was the Stones' 1971 'Hot Rocks' in 1975, at 14.
A double album that is now the Stones' best selling release ever.
'Play with Fire' was on record 1 - the 'old' songs. lol
I liked it, like most everything on Hot Rocks. I didn't know anything about them -
who it was in the pictures on the album or anything really. I had recently seen
on TV what I think was called - 'The First Annual Rock and Roll Awards' -
or something to that effect. I think Keith Moon (didn't know of him back then) was a presenter.
The Stones had released their 'It's Only Rock and Roll' Album in October 1974 and the Awards
Show introduced the video of them in the inflated moonwalk that fills with foam as they play.
First time I'd seen Jagger or any music video, and I was floored.
They've been my band since. I love the Stones.

They are the soundtrack of my life!
Sophomore year at University of Florida.  Spring.
I was 9 years old.  I can still sing along with all the lyrics from memory.  But I have no clue what I had for breakfast this morning.  {#Ask}
At least I have my priorities straight.

Maybe there are Stones' songs that are not such harsh reminders of the realities of not having $cash to spare... but I guess it's a good motivator to work harder on hump day.

Happy Being Poor
The first album that I ever bought at age of sixteen. There are some great R&B covers tunes on there too.

Oh please.  They are on perfectly good rotation here.  You need to listen more.

From a U2 fan. Nuff said.

No longer available due to a copyright claim.

Every time I hear this:
1) I'm about 6 years old again
2) Once upon a time, Mick could sing
3) I've got to get to St. John's Wood before I die, just to see what it's all about

I believe it was 1965 or 1966 and this was the first album that I ever owned. I thought that "The Last Time" was absolutely the coolest thing that I had ever heard with the EDA chord progression and the great guitar intro by Brian Jones. That was all she wrote. My father bought me a big red Framus bass like Bill Wyman had and my life was changed forever. Thanks Rolling Stones. This album also introduced me to R&B with several cover tunes done by the Stones also.

Yes! Great Stones song. Although I don't know enough about music to comment on the chord progression, I think I know what you're talking about. Didn't Brian Jones write that one? A brilliant guy apparently and the driving force behind the band's early success but too messed up and addicted to last very long.

Many people really dig this song, it seems... not me. "Wild Horses" is their pinnacle, IMO... not a fan of this song at all.
ill be there 12 aug 2006 ... dragon stadium ... porto ... portugal ... STONES 3x
One of their best, IMHO.
about time that RP plays the stones
Wow! Back when I believed the Stones could do no wrong.

It might be old, I can't argue that point. But it will never be moldy. Gold don't mold, or tarnish either, for that matter. It shines brilliantly.... forever!
Yea, I like the old Stones stuff too. I don't want to see RP go oldie, but a touch more of the sixties, especially by those bands who were changing R&R, would be good to hear.

Don't they look naughty boys on the album cover...
This song gives me the creeps! Love it, love the old songs!

You can tell a *really* great band by how many 'periods' people have decided they sucked in

Huh!? This is from the time when they were actually interesting.

Old and moldy maybe... but still most excellent.

Ah, back when they were "bad boys"
One of my favorite Stones' songs. Has that taste of the devil, but more understated than their usual fare.
Lot of great oldies here tonight! :)
