Every finger in the room is pointing at me
I want to spit in their faces then I get afraid what that could bring
I got a bowling ball in my stomach, I got a desert in my mouth
Figures that my courage would choose to sell out now

I've been looking for a saviour in these dirty streets
Looking for a saviour beneath these dirty sheets
I've been raising up my hands, drive another nail in
Just what god needs, one more victim

Why do we crucify ourselves every day?
I crucify myself and nothing I do is good enough for you
I crucify myself every day
I crucify myself and my heart is sick of being
I said my heart is sick of being in chains
Chains

Got a kick for a dog begging for love
I got to have my suffering so that I can have my cross
I know a cat named Easter, he says, will you ever learn
You're just an empty cage, girl, if you kill the bird

I've been looking for a saviour in these dirty streets
Looking for a saviour beneath these dirty sheets
I've been raising up my hands, drive another nail in
Got enough guilt to start my own religion

Why do we crucify ourselves every day?
I crucify myself and nothing I do is good enough for you
I crucify myself every day
I crucify myself and my heart is sick of being
I said my heart is sick of being in chains
Chains

Please be
Save me
I cry

Looking for a saviour in these dirty streets
Looking for a saviour beneath these dirty sheets
I've been raising up my hands, drive another nail in
Where are those angels when you need them

Why do we crucify ourselves every day
I crucify myself and nothing I do is good enough for you
I crucify myself every day
I crucify myself and my heart is sick of being
I said my heart is sick of being in chains
Chains

Why do we in chains
Why do we crucify ourselves
Crucify ourselves every day
Why do we crucify ourselves
Why do we crucify ourselves
Chains
Why do we crucify ourselves
Chains
Why do we crucify ourselves
I'm never going back again to crucify myself again you know
Why do we crucify ourselves
I'm never going back again to crucify myself again every day

Well welcome to the Tori Amos bandwagon. Truly gifted.
Didn't like her music at first. Now I think she is a true goddess. I listen to her more than I do Pink Floyd or Kate Bush, which astonishes me. This song in particular helped me through a rough time in life. For this I am forever in her debt. Superb musician. She makes it all look so easy.

best one yet.
The grinding noise of the coffin lid opening gets a bit.... grating towards the end.

do you know TORI? one person must be forever happy is not happy now.
Great song, great album!

It's more amazing to me how many people try to make this connection when all she did was be a woman who sings and plays piano.
Had the pleasure of seeing Tori back in '99.  She opened for Alanis.  Both were great.
It's amazing how hard she tried to be like Kate Bush.
I guess Tori was in her Madonna homage stage here
Love Tori
I really like this, didn't know it yet ....
Every time I hear Tori Amos song I picture Yoda saying "The angst is strong with this one."  Is it just me?

I like the song, for the record.

What, the incessant narcissism didn't tip you off?
Far and away her best album - a few other great songs elsewhere but Little Earthquakes rocks!
I didn't like this song much until I started paying attention to it. Very well done.

Mildly irritating tune that goes on a bit too long.

Definately one of Tori's best albums if not her best album.

Brilliant tune and album!
Chorus sounds like a cat fight.

the song (and album) that got me hooked on Tori...
you nailed me tori

Perfect selection for the RNC convention.
Not bad, not great...kind of middle ground for Tori Amos. There's some other stuff of hers I like considerably more than this...but it's fine. She reminds me of the type of person that wouldn't engage in a superficial or shallow conversation. Everything would have real purpose or philosophy to it. Hmmm....{#Stupid}
Just as I'm starting to come around to Tori (new album)  — this song hits me and all that progress is undone!!

My favorite Tori album.  If I wasn't depressed before, I am now.  Her lyrics are terrifying.

My favorite Tori Amos song. 9
outstanding song from an outstanding album!!
{#Music}  incredible lyrics.

"Well, when I was about seventeen, I was playing clubs and people would come up to me and say, 'You sound like Kate Bush.' And at the time: seventeen, that was ... thirteen years ago, and I would say, 'I don't, I don't know that, but I've heard of her.' So eventually, of course, I got her record, and I didn't really think I sounded like her. But maybe there're moments—there're moments — who knows what my great-great-great-great-grandfather was doing back there, you don't know where the genes go. I, I do admit that there are moments of 'God, that's uncanny.' I mean, I guess if somebody was going to do, like, you know, 'Is it live or is it Memorex?', we could probably do each other and nobody would know, unless you really have a good ear. But, um, she smokes a little more weed than I do, so I'd have to catch up. Just a little more.

Love the line "Got enough guilt to start my own religion."

good Tori song
back when she was consistently good

Still one of my favorite Tori Amos songs, was great live also...{#Music}
Now this has me thinking of another 1980's song: Sanctify Yourself.
{#Notworthy}

I make no apologies for loving this song as much as I do.

Ah well, Tori, we all have a cross to bear ;)

I'll get me coat...
This song encapsulates why some of us love Tori so much.  Deliciously angsty.
Her songs reveal very personal, intimate experiences and feelings which few people are willing to share.  As a man, I learn things about women from her music that I didn't know before.

I CAN'T TAKE IT AMY MORE... I AM OUT!!!
This song and this album is what got me hooked on Tori. Still a loyal fan...for better or worse.
Fantastic in concert.. ..........might change some of your minds
I like the version from "Crucify" better.

Ok ... you asked for it ... (Gets lumber, big hammer and thick nails) Now this will only hurt for a few days.
so much talent, a little bit crazy, desperate and erotic. . . sounds like a helluva weekend
Bill!! You almost gave me a heart attack!! You follow one of my favorite Porcupine Tree songs "Trains" with one of my favorite Tori Amos songs... both being favorite artists of mine. You must love me.

Nice to hear something other than formulaic pap..... behold the wondrous RP!
Listening to it now, I don't hear much of a difference from her recent output an that leaves me lukewarm. But that album I used to love and I felt it was really something new and fresh at the time. Maybe I've grown up or it's Tori that serves the same dish year after year.
Tori Amos, Crucify. Yes, please.
There's my girl...........
Tori was very influential in my upbringing...

Tori was born in the deep end. That being said, the new disc has got a few tasty tunes on it.

Love it.
At her prime, she definately was from a different cut. She has managed to stay around to my surprise I thought she would have faded into obscurity.
Sing Along an' let it flow good to sing it out!
Absolutely love the musical arrangements on this album, at the very least.
Tori at her best!
this song hits a nerv :)
There's that rusty disk brake again. Hm.

Geez, I can almost understand the appeal of "trolling"; it was kinda fun to inspire such indignant outrage. The fact is I don't mind Tori Amos; just don't think she's in the same league as Kate Bush. Peace, CoYoT51.

She's quite intellectually and physically stimulating. Just not my personal cup of angst. Or maybe I'm just a stark-raving binge drinker looking for an excuse to imbibe.

I think there is a drinking game that could go along with Tori's music. Take a drink everytime she 1) uses religious symbolism, 2) uses the word "pain" or any of its synonyms, 3)take a drink everytime she moves to falsetto AND CONTINUE drinking for as long as she keeps it going. Its only a start, but I figure one of a few things would happen. Either I'd get through more Tori in one sitting than I ever have, I'd drink myself into a coma before track four was finished, I'd contemplate the point of even trying in this life, or maybe all four. At any rate, I'll give this a shot at the next party. Never let it be said that I know how to get a party started.

This album changed my life. That whole track one, side one discussion in High Fidelity? (Come on, you've all seen it. You have it memorized, just like I do.) This one takes the cake. IMHYEO...

This song makes me tired. A cold and rainy day needs less of this.
Of course, THIS is the ONLY Tori Amos song I like. The Lyrics are killer!
Bösendorfer kicks butt.

Last Played: Mar 20, 2005 - 18:35 If this is correct it is certainly not being overplayed. Sometimes a little bit of Tori goes a long way.

Perhaps I just don't listen 'hard' enough. Tori Amos sounds the same from the start of her career to the current era. Exactly the same. Not only has her voice and expression remain unchanged, but the variety of songs has expanded little across her career. It almost seems as though one set of her lyrics could be slipped into most any of her other songs with little notice. Taken song by song, she's fine. Looking back across a decade, it's kinda blah. And yes, a tad whiny.
